Jesus is better than the past. (1:1-2)

Hebrews 1:1 ESV

1 Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets,

God spoke - starts it all. Just like Genesis 1 - God speaks and creates.

Long ago at mayn time and many ways. - He spoke through prophets, he spoke throught typography, he even spoke through donkeys. - We just finished Moses. Talked about how the tabernacle all points to Jesus. -

Fathers - the older generations were highly esteemed.

Progressive revelation.

Hebrews 1:2 (ESV)

2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son,

last days - time after Jesus. means last section. these - means it has already started when he was writing it.

by his Son - Jesus .

God was always concerned with speaking to us. But the best way was through Jesus.

Heir of all things

Created the World.

Radiance of God’s Glory

imprint of his nature.

Uphold the uniververse.

Hebrews 1:2 ESV

2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world.

Whom he appointed the heir of all things - Everything was made by Christ and for Christ. He bought it and owns it. It was made for him.

Through whom also he created the world

Jesus is better than the universe. (1:3a)

Hebrews 1:3 ESV

3 He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,

is - he still is

radiance of the glory of God - Is the sun, still the sun without its brightness? But is the brightness is not the sun. Radiance -only time in the NT is here.

Exact imprint of his nature - We can know about God, because of Jesus.

Like an imprint on a coin.

upholds the universe by the word of his power -

Jesus is better than your sins. (1:3b)

Making purification for sins -

He sat down - Bring up chair. Illustratoins sitting down after work means you are done.

4 having become as much superior to angels as the name he has inherited is more excellent than theirs.
