1. The Closeness of Relationship

a. They lived boldly and vulnerably

(1 Thess 2:1-2 For you yourselves know, brothers, that our coming to you was not in vain. But though we had already suffered and been shamefully treated at Philippi, as you know, we had boldness in our God to declare to you the gospel of God in the midst of much conflict.)
i. “Badly treated” meaning shame and physical abuse

b. They lived lives worthy of Christ

(1 Thess 2:4 but just as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, so we speak, not to please man, but to please God who tests our hearts.)

c. They show a deep love for the Thessalonians

(1 Thess 2:7-8 But we were gentle among you, like a nursing mother taking care of her own children. So, being affectionately desirous of you, we were ready to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own selves, because you had become very dear to us.)

i. Lord an OT term for God
ii. Jesus is King

4. Continue to grow in love

(1 Thess 3:12-13 And may the Lord make your love for one another and for all people grow and overflow, just as our love for you overflows. May he, as a result, make your hearts strong, blameless, and holy as you stand before God our Father when our Lord Jesus comes again with all his holy people. Amen.)
