But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people. For among them are those who creep into households and capture weak women, burdened with sins and led astray by various passions, always learning and never able to arrive at a knowledge of the truth. Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so these men also oppose the truth, men corrupted in mind and disqualified regarding the faith. But they will not get very far, for their folly will be plain to all, as was that of those two men.
Introduction
Introduction
Last week, we saw how society is opposed to God’s truth and has attempted to fashion facts according to its version of reality rather than fashion its reality to the facts.
Today, we are going to look at how society has attempted to fashion its version of morality apart from God.
Society’s “form of godliness” as taken God completely out of the moral equation.
In fact, it is in direct opposition to God’s standard of morality found in the Word of God.

Morality
Principles concerning the distinction between right and wrong or good and bad behavior.
Biblical Morality/Ethics
Ethics is theology, viewed as a means of determining which persons, acts, and attitudes receive God’s blessing and which do not.
Entitlement Mentality
Entitlement Mentality
Society’s Take
The belief that one is inherently deserving of privileges or special treatment.
Individuals with an entitlement mentality believe that they shouldn’t have to work towards or earn something but rather that they have a right to it.
The society has propagated the entitlement mentality through various government programs.
Fannie Mae and Freddy Mac
Welfare Programs
Food Stamps
Cash Assistance
Stimulus checks (Covid Relief)
Jesus referred to an entitlement mentality in the parable of the Prodigal Son.
And the younger of them said to his father, ‘Father, give me the share of property that is coming to me.’ And he divided his property between them.
The prodigal son demanded his inheritance early because it was his “right” to have.

“Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor, and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, you, or your son, or your daughter, your male servant, or your female servant, or your livestock, or the sojourner who is within your gates. For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.
The Sabbath, i.e., a day off, is only part of the 4thCommandment.
The forgotten part of the 4th Commandment is the where we are commanded to labor or work for a living.
For even when we were with you, we would give you this command: If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat. For we hear that some among you walk in idleness, not busy at work, but busybodies. Now such persons we command and encourage in the Lord Jesus Christ to do their work quietly and to earn their own living.
The sluggard does not plow in the autumn; he will seek at harvest and have nothing.
The desire of the sluggard kills him, for his hands refuse to labor. All day long he craves and craves, but the righteous gives and does not hold back.
Whoever works his land will have plenty of bread, but he who follows worthless pursuits will have plenty of poverty.
The Ends Justify the Means
The Ends Justify the Means
Society’s Take
“The ends justify the means” is the moral justification used in today’s society for achieving its goals with what was once construed as unethical behavior.
It is especially used to justify slander and lying by certain groups and individuals in achieving their agenda.
Groups that utilize “the ends justify the means” philosophy are…
Politicians
Political advocates
Law enforcement
Journalist
Educators
But one of them, Caiaphas, who was high priest that year, said to them, “You know nothing at all. Nor do you understand that it is better for you that one man should die for the people, not that the whole nation should perish.” He did not say this of his own accord, but being high priest that year he prophesied that Jesus would die for the nation, and not for the nation only, but also to gather into one the children of God who are scattered abroad. So from that day on they made plans to put him to death.
The religious leaders of Jesus’ day believed that “the ends justify the means.”
Jesus encountered such individuals at His trial before the Sanhedrin.
Now the chief priests and the whole council were seeking false testimony against Jesus that they might put him to death, but they found none, though many false witnesses came forward. At last two came forward and said, “This man said, ‘I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to rebuild it in three days.’ ”

“You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
“You shall not steal; you shall not deal falsely; you shall not lie to one another.
You destroy those who speak lies; the Lord abhors the bloodthirsty and deceitful man.
Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord, but those who act faithfully are his delight.
Fine speech is not becoming to a fool; still less is false speech to a prince.
But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.”
Self-Indulgent
Self-Indulgent
Society’s Take
Society’s self-indulging attitude usually manifest itself in various ways, i.e.,
Sexual gratification
lgbq+
Polygamy movement
Swingers
Pedophilia movement
Bestiality movement
The scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in adultery, and placing her in the midst they said to him, “Teacher, this woman has been caught in the act of adultery. Now in the Law, Moses commanded us to stone such women. So what do you say?” This they said to test him, that they might have some charge to bring against him. Jesus bent down and wrote with his finger on the ground. And as they continued to ask him, he stood up and said to them, “Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her.” And once more he bent down and wrote on the ground. But when they heard it, they went away one by one, beginning with the older ones, and Jesus was left alone with the woman standing before him. Jesus stood up and said to her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?” She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said, “Neither do I condemn you; go, and from now on sin no more.”
The woman taken in the act of adultery was engaged in or at least promoting self-indulgence in the area of sexual gratification.
Jesus didn’t condone the woman’s sin, but rather told her to quit sinning.

“You shall not commit adultery.
“If a man commits adultery with the wife of his neighbor, both the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death. If a man lies with his father’s wife, he has uncovered his father’s nakedness; both of them shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them. If a man lies with his daughter-in-law, both of them shall surely be put to death; they have committed perversion; their blood is upon them. If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them. If a man takes a woman and her mother also, it is depravity; he and they shall be burned with fire, that there may be no depravity among you. If a man lies with an animal, he shall surely be put to death, and you shall kill the animal. If a woman approaches any animal and lies with it, you shall kill the woman and the animal; they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them. “If a man takes his sister, a daughter of his father or a daughter of his mother, and sees her nakedness, and she sees his nakedness, it is a disgrace, and they shall be cut off in the sight of the children of their people. He has uncovered his sister’s nakedness, and he shall bear his iniquity. If a man lies with a woman during her menstrual period and uncovers her nakedness, he has made naked her fountain, and she has uncovered the fountain of her blood. Both of them shall be cut off from among their people. You shall not uncover the nakedness of your mother’s sister or of your father’s sister, for that is to make naked one’s relative; they shall bear their iniquity. If a man lies with his uncle’s wife, he has uncovered his uncle’s nakedness; they shall bear their sin; they shall die childless. If a man takes his brother’s wife, it is impurity. He has uncovered his brother’s nakedness; they shall be childless.
Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous.
I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.”
Conclusion
Conclusion
Society has fashioned its morals apart from God.
Regardless of what it claims, society’s morals are sinful.
God will judge the immorality that society plays off as “normal behavior” according to His moral standards and not society’s.
We need to seek the Lord’s mercy and forgiveness, and pray for a Spirit-filled revival to sweep through our families, community, state, nation, and the world as a whole.
