I. Circumstances of the Vision
A. The Glory of God -His Holiness
Introduction:
Ezekiel, born and raised to be a priest in the land of Judah.
The Babylonians attacked in 597 BC and carried him and 10k other captives.
(see 2 Ki.
24;10-14)
The nation Israel was on the brink of complete destruction.
When Ezekiel turned 30 yrs. old God called him to be a prophet.
Jeremiah was preaching to the Jews still in Jerusalem and Daniel was serving in Nebuchadnezzar’s court.
God wanted Ezekiel (1) to help the exiles understand why they had been taken captive.(
2) to let them know that captivity would not be short.(
3) to bring a new message of hope.
(4) To call the peoples’ awareness of their dependence upon God.
God communicated to Ezekiel a vision to show the Glory of God - a revelation of God’s truth.
Apocalyptic imagery is used by Daniel and John that shows God’s idea.
Vision was used to show God’s awesome glory and to warn the exiles of sin’s consequences before it was too late.
Ezekiel’s name means God is strong.
God’s sovereign strength prevails, and He will judge His enemies and restore His true people.
The purpose of God’s judgement is to correct us and to allow us to have peace
Vision of Four Living Beings (rev.
4:6-7)
Each had 4 faces - symbolizes God’s perfect nature, Lion represented strength, the Bull is diligent service, the Man intelligence and the Eagle reps.

Early Church saw a connection with the four gospels: The Lion with, Matthew presenting Christ as the lion of Judah;
The Bull with Mark, Christ as the servant;
The man with Luke showing Christ as a perfect human, Jon represents Christ the Eagle as the Son of God.
The people’s sins was the cause of their downfall.
God is on His throne and He demands that His people worship Him in spirit and truth.
Fire and Light are symbols of truth of God’s Glory.
Rainbow is a sign of God’s never ending Faithfulness a promise to Noah to never again destroy the earth by a flood.
God’s promise to reserve those who remain faithful to Him.
