(SLIDE) WHY? WHY WOULD HE HAVE ASKED GOD THIS ????
(SLIDE) WHY? WHY WOULD HE HAVE ASKED GOD THIS ????
I Need to fill in the background up till this point in Moses Life.
Consider All That Moses had Seen! Starting w/ the Burning Bush, Ex. 3 , the Miracles Of Egypt n the parting of the Red Sea! He had seen God provide Manna and Quail as sustenance for the people. Ex. 16:4
2.5 Million Israelites fleeing Egypt Ex. 14 … 600,000 Egyptian soldiers pursuing them n God says:
But the Israelites went through the sea on dry ground, with a wall of water on their right and on their left. That day the LORD saved Israel from the hands of the Egyptians, and Israel saw the Egyptians lying dead on the shore. And when the Israelites saw the great power the LORD displayed against the Egyptians, the people feared the LORD and put their trust in him and in Moses his servant.
The people started grumbling. (Ex. 16). He had seen God bring water from the rock when he struck the rock as God told him to. (Ex. 17).
He is called onto Mt. Sinai by God and spends 40 days and nights 2 different times communicating with God. Ex. 19
Up to this point, Moses has witnessed much of God’s power and sovereignty over his creation, people and things but he asking TO SEE GOD’S GLORY!!!
WHY WOULD HE WANT MORE??? I would suggest that He knew there was a lot more to experience of this God He has been with!!!! He’s spent a lot of time with God!
Maybe Moses is trying to give us a hint as to the depth of the God that we believe in??????
WHY WOULD HE ASK TO SEE GOD’S GLORY? (REMEMBER HE HAD SPENT 40 DAYS N NIGHTS X 2)
OBVIOUSLY, HE HAD FELT THAT UP TILL NOW HE HAS NOT SEEN GOD’S GLORY!!!!
Gen. 15:1
After this, the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision: “Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your very great reward.”
After this, the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision: “Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your very great reward.”
SEEMS TO ME THAT MOSES ACTUALLY WANTED GOD HIMSELF!!! HE KNEW THERE WAS SO MUCH MORE!!!!!!!
IS IT POSSIBLE, HE WAS ASKING FOR THE SUM OF GOD’S DIVINE NATURE?
IS IT POSSIBLE, HE WAS ASKING FOR THE SUM OF GOD’S DIVINE NATURE?
Review Spurgeon’s Article….
When Moses asked to see God’s Glory, He was not asking to only see God’s Goodness or His Sovereignty, or His mercy or His Grace. He was asking God to show him His divine nature, TO SEE THE TOTALITY OF WHO HE IS and God answers, you can’t handle it Moses for when you see the totality of MY BEING, on that day you will die. God’s nature is His sovereignty, His holiness, His mercy, His grace, His loving kindness and His goodness are some of God’s Divine nature.
Why, it is the greatest petition that man ever asked of God. It seems to me the greatest stretch of faith that I have either heard or read of.
WAS HE ASKING FOR WAS TO SEE THE TOTALITY OF GOD’S DIVINE NATURE! (remember that phrase)
MOSES HAD THE 10 COMMANDMENTS IN HAND(THE WORD) , HE WANTED TO SEE ALL OF GOD!!!!! NOT JUST HIS LAW BUT THE TOTALITY OF THIS GOD!!! HIS DIVINE NATURE!!! THE GOD OF THE WORD!!!!!!!!!!!!
The New International Version (1984) (Moses and the Glory of the Lord)
18 Then Moses said, “Now show me your glory.”19 And the LORD said, “I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you, and I will proclaim my name, the LORD, in your presence. I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. 20 But,” he said, “you cannot see my face, for no one may see me and live.”21 Then the LORD said, “There is a place near me where you may stand on a rock. 22 When my glory passes by, I will put you in a cleft in the rock and cover you with my hand until I have passed by. 23 Then I will remove my hand and you will see my back; but my face must not be seen.”
HOW OFTEN WE ARE SO SATISFIED WITH JUST HAVING GOD’S WORD! AND Moses says: “Show me your Glory Lord”!

The heavens are telling the glory of God (Psalm 19:1). What does that mean? It means he is shouting at us. He shouts with clouds. He shouts with blue expanse. He shouts with gold on the horizons. He shouts with galaxies and stars. He is shouting, “I am glorious. Open your eyes. It is like this — only better, if you know me.” J. Piper Sermon
Isaiah 40:26 (NIV84)
26 Lift your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these? He who brings out the starry host one by one, and calls them each by name. Because of his great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing.

2 Peter 1:20–21 (NIV)
20 Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation of things. 21 For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
DO I STUDY THE SCRIPTURES TO KNOW THE WORD OF GOD (facts), OR THE GOD OF THE WORD? I CAN NOT KNOW THE GOD OF THE WORD LEST I KNOW HIS WORD.
2 Peter 1:2–4 (NIV84)
2 Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. 3 His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. (FAITH) 4 Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature (remember Moses) and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.
Jn. 14:16-17 WE PARTICIPATE IN THE DIVINE NATURE BECAUSE WE HAVE THE HOLY SPIRIT LIVING IN US!!!

SONG.... SHOW ME YOUR GLORY.... 3rd day...
Show me Your Glory
Send down Your presence
I want to see Your face
Show me Your Glory
Majesty shines about You
I can't go on without You, Lord
When I climb down the mountain
And get back to my life
I won't settle for ordinary things
I'm gonna follow You forever
And for all of my days
I won't rest 'til I see You again
1 Corinthians 1:18 (NIV84)
18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
38 The curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. 39 And when the centurion, who stood there in front of Jesus, heard his cry and saw how he died, he said, “Surely this man was the Son of God!”

The New International Version (1984) The Word Became Flesh
14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
Hebrews 1:1–3 (NIV84)
1 In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe. 3 The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.
2 Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
