Introduction

The presence of mom.
After second surgery in Mississippi
Why is mom great though. What if I just loved mom because of lunch? or money?

43 After the two days he left for Galilee. 44 (Now Jesus himself had pointed out that a prophet has no honor in his own country.) 45 When he arrived in Galilee, the Galileans welcomed him. They had seen all that he had done in Jerusalem at the Passover Festival, for they also had been there.

46 Once more he visited Cana in Galilee, where he had turned the water into wine. And there was a certain royal official whose son lay sick at Capernaum. 47 When this man heard that Jesus had arrived in Galilee from Judea, he went to him and begged him to come and heal his son, who was close to death.

48 “Unless you people see signs and wonders,” Jesus told him, “you will never believe.”

49 The royal official said, “Sir, come down before my child dies.”

50 “Go,” Jesus replied, “your son will live.”

The man took Jesus at his word and departed. 51 While he was still on the way, his servants met him with the news that his boy was living. 52 When he inquired as to the time when his son got better, they said to him, “Yesterday, at one in the afternoon, the fever left him.”

53 Then the father realized that this was the exact time at which Jesus had said to him, “Your son will live.” So he and his whole household believed.

54 This was the second sign Jesus performed after coming from Judea to Galilee.

So jesus was in Judea (homeground for Jews) and then Samaria (not hometown and Jesus was greatly accepted) now heading to Galilee (homeground for Jews where some will believe but others will not)
It is in his home areas where people will see Jesus miracles and still not believe. They will want the food he can offer but they wont believe He is the son of God. They will report to the pharisees. They will say “ Arent you just Joseph’s son?”
Jesus being the redeeming Son of God who will save us from our sins is the only way to salvation. If the story is just about Jesus the cool miracle dude, then it wont be enough.
I can take you to several houses and places within a 5 mile circle of this church and take you to places in time where if I were to tell people Im a pastor they would laugh. Werent you the guy partying with us here, filthy mouth and crude behavior and constantly objectifying women living for yourself. and sadly my answer would have to be yes.
And what if I simply just said yes but I have changed......so what??? what does that do for them. Thats just circumstancial thats just behavorial change. But instead I say Christ called me to a different life and that is what I am chasing now. Thats why I can stand here today.
Many in his hometown could not get passed that.

This is a picture of desperation. This man has searched far and wide to this point and most likely used up all his resources.
We dont know exactly what was wrong with this boy but its not like there is a walgreens minute clinic on every corner or doctors offices easily available. No emergency surgeries or diagnostics. Youre either healthy or not.
I think about emma and her fever syndrome that she has and how scarry that was or rachel this year without doctors would not be with us today.
I can remember in the ER with Rachel when things got to its scariest just begging God to please not let her go. I would give anything just keep her here........I cant do laundry
This man was desperate and heres of this Jesus guy and it was his last hail mary no pun intended. He finds him and tells him his son is going to die.
and this is how Jesus answers

48 “Unless you people see signs and wonders,” Jesus told him, “you will never believe.”

49 The royal official said, “Sir, come down before my child dies.”

50 “Go,” Jesus replied, “your son will live.”

Now it should be noted Jesus isnt just singling this guy out. He says the southern word that we all know. YALL
Multiple times and multiple ways he tells specifically the Jewish people that unless you have signs you wont believe. You want what I can do rather than me.
This is not Jesus being harsh as you will see shorty he does indeed heal this son, but it is a lesson that many stilll struggle with today.
When is your prayer life the strongest?
When are you diving in the word the most?
When are you on your best behavior?
CEO is in town
Jesus indeed can and does perform miracles but not for your entertainment or comfort but to confirm He is indeed the Christ and out of His great love and mercy for you.
He is not obligated to do anything for you. He isnt santa clause or the magic geenie. He is God He is God He is God. And in Judea and Galilee, what were they not understanding....? That He was God
What does He want this nobleman to know, that He is God
What Do I and Christ want you to know today..... that He is God.
If my mom could cook no longer, would she still be my mom?

The man took Jesus at his word and departed. 51 While he was still on the way, his servants met him with the news that his boy was living. 52 When he inquired as to the time when his son got better, they said to him, “Yesterday, at one in the afternoon, the fever left him.”

53 Then the father realized that this was the exact time at which Jesus had said to him, “Your son will live.” So he and his whole household believed.

54 This was the second sign Jesus performed after coming from Judea to Galilee.

The man took Jesus at His word and the whole household believed.
Here is a simple but huge reality that we see for the first time in John. The prophets had to be present. But god does not. Jesus was not just a prophet
He was............ God
He was not physically present with the boy yet.... He healed him
desperation
