Put on the whole armor of God. The new set of clothes (4:22–24 note) now becomes a warrior’s battle gear (Col. 3:10, 12 notes). The OT allusions in Paul’s description of the various pieces of armor show that believers are now arrayed with the very weapons that the Lord and His Messiah have worn to wage war on behalf of His people. Elsewhere, Paul directs believers to “put on the armor of light” and then explains the metaphor: “put on the Lord Jesus Christ” (Rom. 13:12–14).
