Matthew 6:25–34 NASB95
25 “For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? 26 “Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they? 27 “And who of you by being worried can add a single hour to his life? 28 “And why are you worried about clothing? Observe how the lilies of the field grow; they do not toil nor do they spin, 29 yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these. 30 “But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you? You of little faith! 31 “Do not worry then, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear for clothing?’ 32 “For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. 34 “So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
There are 4 primary things that Jesus deals with here.
1. Don’t worry
2. It is God’s nature to provide
3. He values you much more than you think
4. And be a Kingdom seeker.
I want to focus on the 3rd
He values you more than you think.
Thomas Traherne says
“As nothing is more easy than to think, so nothing is more difficult than to think well.”
Lately we have talk about how the great battle in all the world is in you mind.
Charles Sturgeon says
“Consider how precious a soul must be, when both God and the devil are after it. You never heard that the devil was after a kingdom, did you? No, he is not so foolish; he knows it would not be worth his winning; he is never after that; but he is always after souls. You never heard that God was seeking after a crown, did you! No, he thinketh little of dominions; but he is after souls every day; his Holy Spirit is seeking his children; and Christ came to save souls. Do you think that which hell craves for, and that which God seeks for, is not precious?” Charles Spurgeon
Strong’s defines it as life, soul, heart, mind, a person the immaterial and (eternal) part of the inner ward man.
Our souls are eternal. It Is the nonmaterial inward part of a man.It is the part of man that cant been with ones eye.
The souls seat one’s emotion and desires. One thought and reasoning. And house ours all of the senses.
The soul is the place of reasoning.. where we collect information.
The place where we process though. It is from there that we communicate with man and with God.
As there is a battle over ones soul, there is a battle for ones mind.
“What controls your mind, controls you.” Carrol Thompson
The Enemy desire is to pollute how we think about God and thus pollute what we think about ourselves.
Notice Satan in the form of a serpent interaction with Eve
Genesis 3:1 NASB95
1 Now the serpent was more crafty than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Indeed, has God said, ‘You shall not eat from any tree of the garden’?”
The serpent was more “crafty,”
Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary (Eleventh Edition) (Crafty)
crafty \ˈkraf-tē\ adjective
1: SKILLFUL, CLEVER
2 a: adept in the use of subtlety and cunning
The devil is the world best lier
John 8:44 (NASB95) calls him..
...... for he is a liar and the father of lies.
He asked Eve, “God said you can eat of the tree in the garden, right?”
This the same question that the world is asking. A
ll things are available to you, aren’t they?
There is no right and wrong; all things are relative, right?
Then Eve replies, “Well, God told us we can’t touch the tree of the knowledge of good and evil or we will die.”
“Now it’s okay, you’re a child of God. You’re not going to die.
Your eyes will open and you will be like God.”
One of the major problems here is that Eve did not realize that she was already like God.
God formed her and made her in His image.
When we cannot see ourselves like God made us, the devil can convince us to do anything.
He want to make you judge yourself by the standards of the world, that bring insecurity and fear...
He want you to believe that you get you worth and value from what you do and how you perform.
Instead of saying, “I am a daughter, and I don’t have to listen to you.”
She looked at the tree, and she was tempted in every area of her life.
If the devil can disturb how we see God he can distort how we see ourselves and devalue our self-worth.
A.W. Tozer says
“What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.”
Let say, I gave my bother a new Ferrari. Top down
He left it out in the rain with the top off.
The entire was ruined.
He did not place high regard on it. And it was ruin on the inside.
Outside of Jesus and Grace one of the greatest gift that God will ever give you is you.
So why do you leave yourself unguarded outside and allow the rain to destroyed you on the inside?
Look at John 3:16-17
John 3:16–17 NASB95
16 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. 17 “For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.
“Our Father in heaven loves you so much that He sent His Son to gain sons.” PD
God knew we wouldn't be able to come to him on our own
That is the powerful love of the Father. It’s a love that seeks to find His children.
It’s a passionate and intense love. “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son”
It’s not God so loved the world He thought very highly of them, or God so loved the world that He sent them a blessing. No.
God so loved the world, He expressed it. He looked all over heaven to find the thing He loved the most to express His love for His creation.
He sent the most precious and important thing in all of heaven to prove His “undying love for us and that is His Son.
Many times we feel overtaken by our feelings, emotions, depression, loneliness, pain, or sadness. In those hours, we look for things to fill the void and the emptiness.
We look for things to make us forget about all our life's pain, and we forget that Jesus is seeking us and wanting to lead us to the Potter so He can mold us and put us back together again.”
Matthew 6:26 NASB95
26 “Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they?
Are you not worth much more than they?
You are so unique...
Ephesians 2:10 NASB95
10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.
you are important to God...
Isaiah 43:4 NASB95
4 “Since you are precious in My sight, Since you are honored and I love you, I will give other men in your place and other peoples in exchange for your life.
Your are valuable to God...
Matthew 10:29–31 NASB95
29 “Are not two sparrows sold for a cent? And yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. 30 “But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. 31 “So do not fear; you are more valuable than many sparrows.
Look back at
Matthew 6:26 NASB95
26 “Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they?
hear again the question, Are you not of more value than they?
Notice the birds. They don’t reap nor sow, nor do they gather, yet the Father in heaven feeds them.
if your father can feed a bird, how much more can He feed a son? or a daughter?
Don’t you realize that you are more valuable than a bird or any other animal for that matter.
Sons and daughter don’t need to worry because we have a Father that values us.
again verse 28-30
Matthew 6:28–30 NKJV
28 “So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; 29 and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?
Not only will he clothe you. He will much more than clothe you.
Jesus is dealing with a very basic but powerful principle here. He can and will provide for those who are his.
and because we know we are his we dont worry about the future.
Matthew 6:31–32 NKJV
31 “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.
