Did You Get The Memo?
2 Peter 3:1-2 “1 Beloved, I now write to you this second epistle (in both of which I stir up your pure minds by way of reminder), 2 that you may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us, the apostles of the Lord and Savior,”

Introduction

Our theme for the Holy Convocation is “The Challenges We Face”.
Surely we are challenged because we are living in perilous. You don’t have to look too far to verify 2 Timothy 3:1-5! According to man, it’s anything goes and people go about doing whatever comes up in their hearts without fear of consequences. We have to understand that heart is deceitful and desperately wicked.
With all this going on around us, we must be sure to keep our focus on God.
Satan, not giving him any credit or glory, because he’s a defeated foe, is skillful at deceiving people. I want to remind you of how he took one word and fooled Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden.
God told Adam and Eve that they would surely die in Genesis 2:16-17.
Satan told them; “you will surely not die if they ate from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
God has always placed priority on obeying His word and keeping our focus on Him.
There are many distractions we deal with everyday...
So I believe the Lord wants us to be reminded, and like Peter, I want to stir up your pure minds by way of reminder.
As I was writing my notes for this message, I noticed all the sticky notes I have everywhere and my email program was open on my computer. And out of that visual example, I gave the message a title; “Did You Get The Memo?”

Pure Minds

Peter said he wanted to stir up the pure minds of the believers of his day.
A pure mind is described in Philippians 4:8. -“Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.”
A pure mind is always focused righteous things. Whatever is noble, just, pure, lovely, of good report, virtue and things that are praiseworthy.
So the minds he wants to rekindle and refocus are minds that have been renewed and the people he was writing had been transformed and justified.
This was Peter’s second message he wrote to remind the Christians and us of the teachings of the Old Testament prophets and the New Testament apostles.
Peter wanted to make sure they got the memo. The Lord wants to make sure we get the memo today.
Did you get the memo?

Thought 2

When my supervisor asks; “Did you get the memo”, my response is going to be yes I got it the memo, or “no I didn’t get that memo.
God’s memos are meant to be taken seriously. I might be able give an excused as to why I didn’t do what was on that memo, but there is no excuses if I don’t get God’s memos.
A memo from God might look or sound something like this.

The Memos

Attention: Love your God and keep His commandments.
Deuteronomy 11:1 “1 “Therefore you shall love the Lord your God, and keep His charge, His statutes, His judgments, and His commandments always.”
Attention: Do you love me?
John 14:15 “If you love Me, keep My commandments.”
Attention: Did you know there are blessings that come with obedience:
Deuteronomy 11:26-27 Behold, I set before you today a blessing and a curse: the blessing, if you obey the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you today;”
Attention: “Please don’t harden your heart against me”
Hebrews 4:7 , the second clause: “Today, if you will hear His voice, Do not harden your hearts.”
Attention: “I desire to see real love.”
Matthew 22:37-40 “37 Jesus said to him, “ ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.””
Attention: “Stop associating with the wrong crowds”:
2 Corinthians 6:17 “Therefore “Come out from among them And be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, And I will receive you.””
Attention: “Don’t feel guilty, I will forgive your sin.”
1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
Attention: “You can complete this journey, You Got this if you have me.”
Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
Attention: “Satan and Death have been defeated.”
1 Corinthians 15:55-57 “O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory?” 56 The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Attention: “Stay on track and don’t compromise.”
1 Corinthians 15:58 “58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.”
Attention: “I Am Coming Quickly”.
Revelation 22:20 “20 He who testifies to these things says, “Surely I am coming quickly.” Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus!”

CLOSING

God loves us enough that He as been sending memos from the first entry made into His holy writ unto now.
People are scoffing and saying where is your God, I thought Jesus was coming. I’ve been hearing this all my life and He hasn’t showed up yet.
2 Peter 3:9 “9 The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.”
God loves us so much that not only did He give His only begotten Son, He is waiting for someone to repent right now. Tomorrow isn’t promised because no man knows the day nor the hour...
If there is anyone...
