BE BLESSED BY REVELATION part 2
Last week we started off our Revelation series in John chapter 15
SLIDE 1 “REVELATION BLESSES IS HE THAT READETH”
Jesus was preparing His disciples for His departure, the tribulations His followers would have - mainly in how the world would treat us
Also gave His guarantee His people / His church would be taken care of
Jesus told His disciples it was for their (our advantage that He go away)
How would He take care of His followers?
SLIDE 2
FOR OUR ADVANTAGE
1) Jesus would give us His peace (not as the world gives)
2) Given the Helper Holy Spirit (guide us in all truth)
3) Take courage - Jesus overcame the world
4) Given His word to the church
After Jesus ascended into heaven (sat down at right hand of the Father)
What age have we been in since He sat down? church age / grace age
SLIDE 3
Revelation 1:3 (NASB95)
3 Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of the prophecy, and heed the things which are written in it; for the time is near.
We just saw the advantages He would give for us
Now He is telling us (His church / you will see that as we read on) we are blessed to read, hear and heed the words of this prophecy of the book of Revelation
SLIDE 4
BLESSED - HE THAT READS / HEARS / HEEDS
*transcendent happiness of life beyond care, labour and death
*favoured / fortunate
Blessed here is - transcendent happiness of life beyond care, labour and death / favored (fortunate)
So check this out - from time Jesus ascended His church was born
He equipped His church with what? Spirit and truth (Acts, Romans, Corinthians, Thessalonians, Galatians, Hebrews etc)
All instruction for family / church / gospel (kingdom)
SLIDE 5
B - basic
I - instruction
B - before
L - leaving
E - earth
‘now he wants to bless his church informing us through this prophecy of what is to come
A few points to remember in this, good news if you have professed Christ, surrendered your life to him and choose to follow him
SLIDE 6
2 Peter 1:2–3 (NLT)
2 May God give you more and more grace and peace as you grow in your knowledge of God and Jesus our Lord.
3 By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence.
‘now he wants to bless his church informing us through this prophecy of what is to come
A few points to remember in this, good news if you have professed Christ, surrendered your life to him and choose to follow him
These points - Revelation -apocolypto
SLIDE 7
GOD INFORMING US AND CARING FOR US
Revelation (apokalypsis) - reveal, manifestation, coming
laying bear, making naked
instruction
ultimately what the church will experience (those who know Jesus / names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life)
SLIDE 8
HOW THE WORLD SEE’S REVELATION
(apocalypse) - collapse, chaos, great disastrous fire, calamity, tragedy
ultimately what the world will experience (those who do not know Jesus / names are not written in the Lamb’s Book of Life)
Revelation is the last book of the Bible
Revelation was written by the apostle John
John was one of the 12 apostles / disciples of Jesus
SLIDE 9
APOSTLE JOHN
*Author - Gospel of John / 1st,2nd,3rd John / Revelation
*Brother of James (sons of Zebedee / “sons of thunder”)
*Jesus’ inner circle - Peter, James and John (fisherman when called)
*Known as the “disciple whom Jesus loved”
*Leaning on Jesus’ chest at Last Supper
*Witnessed the transfiguration of Jesus (Peter and James also)
John was probably a fast runner - he beat Peter to the tomb at Jesus’ resurrection
John may also had better eye site than Peter - a wonderful notable after Jesus had risen - disciples were fishing (John 21 )
God gave Revelation to Jesus - Jesus to show John
SLIDE 10
BOOK OF REVELATION (Rev. verse 1)
1) God gave to Jesus
2) Jesus to show us (his bond servants)
3) Communicated to John by His angel (messenger)
bond servant (doulos / doo>los) - servant or attendant, devoted to another to the disregard of one’s own interest, gives himself up to another’s service
again the way Revelation was given to us shows how God loves and cares for the church
the church is his family - brought to Him by Jesus
Blessed is he who reads hears and heeds this prophecy for the time is near
As we start reading again and pick up at Rev 1 verse 4 I pray we all really see how amazing it is to belong to His church, to be a part of God’s family
let’s get back into Revelation and in verse 4
SLIDE 11
Revelation 1:4 (NASB95)
4 John to the seven churches that are in Asia: Grace to you and peace, from Him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven Spirits who are before His throne,
notice the first thing God knows we need and its given in this letter greeting to us - “grace and peace to you” - from Him......and the seven Spirits who are before His throne.
Now there is one Holy Spirit but this reveals the fullness of the Holy Spirit and function so to speak Isaiah 11:2 tells us the spirit will rest on him, the spirit of wisdom, strength, knowledge, and fear of the Lord
SLIDE 12
Revelation 1:5 (NASB95)
5 and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. To Him who loves us and released us from our sins by His blood—
SLIDE 13
Revelation 1:6 (NASB95)
6 and He has made us to be a kingdom, priests to His God and Father—to Him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.
We are seeing the laying out of the threefold office in Jesus Christ
who is the only prophet, priest and king
SLIDE 14
Revelation 1:7 (NASB95)
7 Behold, He is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see Him, even those who pierced Him; and all the tribes of the earth will mourn over Him. So it is to be. Amen.
9Therefore God exalted Him to the highest place and gave Him the name above all names, 10that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.…
of the three persons of the Holy Trinity, we will see this book is dedicated to Jesus Christ alone.
SLIDE 15
Revelation 1:8 (NASB95)
8 “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.”
As was written to us in verse 3 read hear and heed and you will be blessed for the time is near
This book was written to encourage the church for time of persecution
Why do we hear so many say last days, in the last days, even in the epistles of the apostles written “in these last days”
Why is it said for the time is near
We will be references in many other books of the bible to bring in the whole council of God, you have to do this in order for Revelation to become vivid and full and to bring us all to bowing before Him
You have to refer to Daniel 9 to help see what the time is near is about
Daniel - describe Daniel and his history
SLIDE 16
Daniel 9:20 (NASB95)
20 Now while I was speaking and praying, and confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my supplication before the Lord my God in behalf of the holy mountain of my God,
SLIDE 17
Daniel 9:21 (NASB95)
21 while I was still speaking in prayer, then the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision previously, came to me in my extreme weariness about the time of the evening offering.
SLIDE 18
Daniel 9:22 (NASB95)
22 He gave me instruction and talked with me and said, “O Daniel, I have now come forth to give you insight with understanding.
SLIDE 19
Daniel 9:23 (NASB95)
23 “At the beginning of your supplications the command was issued, and I have come to tell you, for you are highly esteemed; so give heed to the message and gain understanding of the vision.
SLIDE 20
Daniel 9:24 (NASB95)
24 “Seventy weeks have been decreed for your people and your holy city, to finish the transgression, to make an end of sin, to make atonement for iniquity, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and prophecy and to anoint the most holy place.
SLIDE 21
Daniel 9:25 (NASB95)
25 “So you are to know and discern that from the issuing of a decree to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until Messiah the Prince there will be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks; it will be built again, with plaza and moat, even in times of distress.
SLIDE 22
Daniel 9:26 (NASB95)
26 “Then after the sixty-two weeks the Messiah will be cut off and have nothing, and the people of the prince who is to come will destroy the city and the sanctuary. And its end will come with a flood; even to the end there will be war; desolations are determined.
SLIDE 23
Daniel 9:27 (NASB95)
27 “And he will make a firm covenant with the many for one week, but in the middle of the week he will put a stop to sacrifice and grain offering; and on the wing of abominations will come one who makes desolate, even until a complete destruction, one that is decreed, is poured out on the one who makes desolate.”
SLIDE 24 “DANIEL 70 WEEKS”
SLIDE 25 “DANIEL 70 WEEKS MULTIPLICATION NUMBERS”
