Gods Righteousness and Mans Redemption
Notes
Transcript
Throughout the whole Epistle Paul weaves this idea and thought that “he is not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ” because it reveals salvation by faith.
From 1:18 through 3:20 shows the need for salvation is universal for all people, both Jew and Gentile.
Now in 3:21 he starts to show the Nature of this salvation.
Verse 21 brings us to a turning point in this Epistle, here is the hinge upon which the contents of this letter swings from the records of sin to the revelation of Salvation.
Redemptive Righteousness Must be Given by God
Redemptive Righteousness Must be Given by God
verse 20 ended the argument that both Gentiles and Jews were guilty before God.
The Jews were given the law, but but had failed to follow it.
The Gentiles had been given the Light but they failed to follow it to God.
Neither group did what they needed to do.
Their deeds cannot justify them before God.
Paul Declares that righteousness is Apart from the Law (21)

1.) He says that it is without the law (21a)
1.) He says that it is without the law (21a)
has shown what man cannot do by his deeds.
He is now showing what God can do through His grace.
He says in 21 that the Law was never ment to save it was ment to show the need for salvation.
2.) He says that it was witnessed by the Law (21b)
2.) He says that it was witnessed by the Law (21b)
The Law and the Prophets both testified to the fact that man cannot do anything to earn his salvation.
The law was to reveal the sin
The Prophets to reveal the sin-bearer
God has always used grace through faith to lead His people.
Adam and Eve by Making them cloths
Noah and His family by allowing them to have the Ark
Abraham was called and given grace and had to have faith in Gods plan.
Grace is giving something to someone who does not merit or deserve something.
Faith is having the assurance of things hoped for and the conviction of things not seen. Hebrews 11:1
1 Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.
It is through our faith that we are convicted by God to do His will in our lives.
Faith without conviction is just hope.
Paul Declares that it is altogether of the Lord (22-23)

1.) It is Unmerited in its Nature (22a)
1.) It is Unmerited in its Nature (22a)
Everything that comes from God is perfect.
Only His Righteousness can save.
We look for salvation in everything but God.
We are almost allergic to Gods righteousness because it show just how sinful we can be.
To except Gods righteousness we must admit that ours is not good enough.
2.) It is Universal In its Need (22b-23)
2.) It is Universal In its Need (22b-23)
All Men are sinners in their Character
We chose to do things against God.
Often we know the thing to do but yet we don’t do it.
All Men are sinners in their Conduct
We choose to sin.
Often times we know what we are doing is wrong and we do it anyway.
Often we may even think we are doing good but if it is not what God wants us to do then it is still sin.

1.) Calvary Secured The Redemption of Sinners (24-25)
It Paid the Price for Our Sins
The Cross is the estimate of the worth of a human soul.
It brought glory and gladness to God for providing our redemption.
When Christ hung on the cross he did it for us.
He died for us therefore we should live for him.
It Provided The Propitiation for their Sins
6 All we like sheep have gone astray;
we have turned—every one—to his own way;
and the Lord has laid on him
the iniquity of us all.
The cross reached both into the past and into the future to cover all sin.
The cross is that powerful.
God’s grace was enough to cover those who did not see Christ or the cross but still had faith in the Righteousness of God.

1.) He is Glorified By What it Excludes (27)
1.) He is Glorified By What it Excludes (27)
We boast not in our selves but in the work of Christ.
We could never do what He did on the cross.
2.) He is Glorified By What it Exalts (28)
2.) He is Glorified By What it Exalts (28)
It exalts God and His plan for salvation.
He is was exalted for creating us even though He knew we would bring sin into His creation and it would cost Him His son.
3.) He is Glorified By What it Establishes (29-31)
3.) He is Glorified By What it Establishes (29-31)
It Establishes the exclusiveness of Gods Salvation
Salvation is through Jesus only. Nothing else
It is for all people both Jew and Gentile
It Establishes The Eternalness of Gods Standards
It does not get rid of the law but it brings us into right standing with the law.
It covers the one in the present, past and the future.

May that One whose love has no limit,
Whose grace has no measure,
Whose power has no boundary known unto men.
May He from His infinite riches in Jesus,
Send you help from His sanctuary and grant you His
support from that heavenly Zion.
