Sine Qua Non - Part 2
Our dear heavenly father. We thank you for this glorious morning, amazing, the creation that you have made. We have sixty nine degrees in the morning, in 100°, in the afternoon. So we get a little rest with every day and we get a little pump in energy in the afternoon. We're just so thankful for your grace provision that in every way that we could possibly imagine and many, many more that we cannot, imagine that you have expressed your policy, your desire to interact with man through Grace that is nothing we can do to earn to Garner your attention. Lord, it is your grave provision that you were given to us. This morning. We come to take full advantage of that Grace, as we enter into a study of your word that we might understand the things of your thinking, your thoughts your perspective. We might grow in our relationship with you and see you glorified all these things. We pray in Christ Jesus name, amen. Roy's. So we will pick up from where we left off last week, but before we do, let's review. So for Hebrews chapter 12, verses 1 and 2. Starting in verse 1. Let's read it. Just so we have this in mind as we progressed. Therefore, we also since we are surrounded by so great, cloud of witnesses. Let us lay aside every weight and the sandwich so easily, and snares us and let us run with endurance, the race that is set. Before us. Looking on the Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. And for the joy, that was set before him. Enjoy the cross, despising the shame and I sat down at the right hand of the Throne of God, No, we are learn previously that our main bird and the purpose of our passage is to run. Receive Alan verse 1. We are to lay aside everything. And we are to run the point of these verses is to run it so easily been making her way through a concerted effort to get all the way through. Hebrews chapter 11, we have been reviewing time and time. Again, the Bible Doctrine is designed to function in your soul. The goal is not to have Bible Doctrine because that could be good. That is a Bible doctrine that does not function. The goal is to have Bible Doctrine functioning in your soul. And I would say that is one of the places of great error that we have seen potentially in the categorical, Grace movement. Know, it's not something bad bracket Church, taught a Doctrine in your mind and your soul in your notes, get the reel-to-reels, get the tea. Spend as much time in there and then just let it sit and not function but that's what many people have done. Thought it was about academics. For the point of academics is not academics, unless you're not get the mission academic academic.
Point. Actually, the study of God's word is that it would function in our soul that it would be alive and working within us. That's the entire point. There is no other point. So, we want to make sure that we have the cart behind the horse, not ahead of the horse. One thing I found about horses is it when you attach the cart in front of them, don't want to go that direction.
Because they like to have nothing in front of them as they're walking along. So the card goes behind the horse and then everything proceeds along properly. And so we have insight into that saying and also into the reality then that if we get arcademics in the Forefront for the purpose of academic and shearly, purely for academics, then, we are backwards. We are doing it the wrong way. I could MX or not something to be sneered at, we don't drive them. We don't have any place where I can absolutely have a need for a good. Well done proper academics. When it comes to the study and of God's word, in fact, it is imperative. If we don't understand the context, if we mess up the grammar, if we haven't played with the critical text, that is figuring out. What words are Actually there and did some scribe, change it or mess it up along the way. if we don't pay attention to these things, we neglected to our own destruction to our own. Illness.
Because God's word benefits us. So,
The main bird here is to run to engage in the race laid before us, which is having Bible Doctrine functioning in your soul and it's no ordinary. Ray says, we have studied, in the last couple weeks, it was a race of consequence. These Peloponnesian races were a substitute for Warfare. In other words, the race is the battle, the battle is the race, they're one in the same. There's no room for distinguishing between them while we can say, okay, we got the runners over here and we got the military over here will in the Peloponnesian.
Games that we had a Mad Greek Arena. We're all these different cities and constantly been at war with each other and they finally negotiated. We will send our best runner out there. We will send our best boxer out there. We will send our best wrestler out there. We will send our best Sprinter out there. We will send our best marathon runner out there, and they will compete in substitute for, lopping each other's heads off.
That's a pretty good substitute, but that meant that what was riding on? It was considerable taxes, making payments in tribute to the winning. City is all wrapped up in it. There's obligation that comes if your team loses, if your Runner loses. That means you're sitting losses. So what did people do? They put everything into the risks. They put everything into developing Runners. It all the accoutrements that were necessary for the development of Runners that I was pretty limited. Because unlike today can't say why I've got the best hyper bouncy, little fools to go in your shoes so that you can Sprint and bounce better than anyone else. Or in the case of legless people we can say, oh yeah we can give you, we can give you Springs on your legs or is your running down. You can run faster than any. Boil it because we have made you almost bionic wheel added to your ability. That wasn't allowed, everyone had to be stripped down. Everyone had to be oiled every morning. Every have everyone have the same food. They trained in the same gymnasiums, they had the same Masters over them, to make sure that absolutely everyone trained in the same way that no one had the slightest Advantage at all. So the games would be fair, as Fair as could be and they will get together and they compete and then the winner is the winter with no objections everyone. Is on board. That was the wintry. He was the first to cross the line. He threw down his opponent opponent. He knocked out on his opponent. So, it's very clear who the winner is. So this is no ordinary rates that were entered into. It's a race of consequences but we have a goal as we press forward into this Bible doctrine, that functions that our souls. And that goal is the person and the work and all that. Informs us of your shoe at Jesus, the Lord, Jesus Christ gives birth to Sons. Looking unto Jesus. This is what the runners are doing their pressing forward, but their goal, their objective, the direction they're headed. The farthest thinking, everything that shape their training, everything that shakes their running, they're competing.
Involved in this looking unto Jesus.
In the original.
The word Grace here. Races. It is the word for these races. Yes. Yeah, it is a it is using the language. So there's no simile for say but it is easy but it is. The language vocabulary that use is the vocabulary of the Greek races. And we talked about the great crowd of witnesses, it's all those people who have been part of the training who have competed before us that we're looking at, they showed us how Bible Doctrine functions. So now we're in the arena and we're to draw upon their understanding their demonstration in the soul of each of these individuals we've been studying for the last 6-8 months or so. Who bathtub at the point and then we're saying, or the texture is saying, and the runner, then it's supposed to be looking to the person of Jesus Christ. So, as a result of the objective of our enemy, we mentioned last week,
The objective of our enemy is to stop us from doing this concentrating on. Jesus Christ. If he has one goal, one objective, it's to keep our attention off of Jesus Christ. It's the draw attention away into the details members. We were going through Matthew 14. What happened? When Peter walking on water looked away from Jesus? He fell down into the water. His attention was drawn away from Jesus. No, I'm not saying that is the exact portrayal of what we're going through. But it is mighty, interesting, but it's in scripture and we have someone who's looking at Jesus and then when he looks away he fails. Because that's exactly what our text is, telling us hear our goal or objective of our running is to fix your eyes. So, if you ever seen a runner in the Olympics on him, I'm assuming that everyone here is it least gone to a race once in their life, or watch the race on TV. But here's a question, if you ever seen a runner running down the track, looking at the shoes, does running along
Doesn't work very well. They you and think maybe your trip last but it's just the opposite. You seem to be able to move forward. You have to have your eyes up to the Roy's and focused in on what you're going after. It's like when you're playing baseball, if you want to hit that ball, what do you do? Close your eyes and swing. Yoho. I'm going to put every bit of energy. I have into my close my eyes and want to hear that crap. And you never will, unless the picture is trying to hit your bat.
What you do is you keep your eye on the ball and you follow it all the way through and as you swing through and keep your eye on the ball. But as you swing through with your bad, you still keep your eye on the ball. Right up to the point at which you connect. Then you can close your eyes if you want to do anything. You want at that point you hit a homer. You can directly crawl around on your rear end to get all the way there. But you have to keep your eyes open. When you going to shoot hoops and you want to get it in the basket. you close your eyes, if you look over and your friends, well, maybe if you're Magic Johnson, you did You jumped up here and look at your phone and go. Watch this, sending. You thoughts it in. Omet.
Or enemies objective is to get our eyes off of Jesus Christ because he wants to defeat us. He wants to Unplug us from the situation. He wants to unplug us from the reality of Grace operating in our lives. And our objective is to do this. That is keep our eyes on Jesus. Jesus in perspective, what his work is, what he has done for us the basis of the work that he did for us. What is this all about?
We need to be looking to Jesus. So the objective of the advanced then, is this looking to Jesus and we studied Opera, oh, that is the looking is an intense examination. It is not just your casual, but it is an intense examination. Know, some interesting parallels, always find these when I'm dealing with the training, the people how to use the Segways there. It's a way of Jackson. Who were getting ready to go on a tour? I teach them and interesting. They're on a Segway there standing there, we've got them out, they move forwards, and backwards that kind of gotten used to standing on that. They're starting to relax just a little bit and then I have them turn in place and if you stand evenly with your weight evenly distributed on each leg gets cut the handlebars over to the side. She doesn't rotate like a bicycle or a motorcycle. You just scoot, so I decide. So if you stand there and just screwed into the song,
pirouette or pretended geeky, I call it a zero radius turn Stupid. Why don't just spend it right in place. And I tell them that I demonstrate that they control their speed by how far they go explain this to them. Well, first I tell him the good news is, you can turn both left and right so we don't have to take the right hand. Only tour of Jacksonville cuz It's not my favorite way to go. So the way to stay safe on where your wheels are, here's the funny thing. We may have a gate walking around based on the width of our shoulders, going down to our feet and this writing on the little Segway. Device feels more like, walking than anything, your brain doesn't say, oh, it's just like riding a motorcycle was just like a skateboard. I was just like roller skates, except they're just standing there a movie. So but your brain never gets wrong for this situation. So, what we found is we can expand a person's awareness in their brain of how wide the Segway is down here cuz it's a little bit wider. Down at the base Thunder used to accommodating for. And so, the way we stay safe is for your brain to know where the wheels are. So I go through a little exercise for I have people zigzag down to the car and back and I keep on changing how far away they need to be from the cones and make sure that they can do it and they have to demonstrate it for me. If they can to make him go back and do it again and again and again and we work it until we actually have their brain changing. But here's one of the keys and we found Is it a few just drive along? You just give a little bit of peripheral examination to where your wheels are in relation to the crown. You won't get any better at navigating. You won't be any better and being aware of where your wheels are. But if you do this, you look over and down and see where those tires are. As you go by the, can you do the same thing on the other side, back and forth? Looking down looking over examining Where the wheel is examining where the cone is something amazing happens in your brain and your brain. Somehow becomes aware of where the base of the Segway is you become a better Navigator. It's what we found. This is so important, we can keep people from having accidents, which can happen on the Segway go because they have learned. What is necessary to be able to be safe rolling around. Otherwise, I have people hitting curves and then each other rolling into this that and the other But when I have them go through the training and they actually exam. Weather wheels are, then it changes things. So too with us. And so too, with what the text is saying. Hear this specific Greek word, operado means to turn the eyes away from distractions and concentrate or fix them on something else. So, as to examine what you are looking at, and when you do, it creates an awareness, it changes things in your brain. That's part of what we're talking about. When we utilize that little descriptor epistemological Rehabilitation, it changes your awareness of life and truth and thanking God exists through his word. As we examine his word, cuz we pay attention to his word, he changes our awareness of the boundaries around at each Our awareness of Truth. He changes our spiritual Concepts from that, which is negligent have Hazard to that, which is, where is actual that can be utilized in life, we come to an understanding of Grace. As the power engine, the source of the Dynamics of the spiritual life is not your exertion. It's not your ability to be spiritual because some people do think that they have that I can be spiritual and I can be more spiritual than anyone else. And some people just have that, you know, it's the confidence. It's the, it's the Swagger that you see on the playground when someone comes walking up, when I say, I can do the monkey bars.
Do they come running up to it? May just going to jump through.
But it's not like that in spiritual life. Spiritual life is different. It's about Grace. It's about God's provision. No one has any advantage over anyone else. You weren't very athletic when it comes to the spiritual life. It doesn't matter at all, because it's not about you. It's about the provision God has given and made for you. That is so very important. I wanted to make sure we tapped on that before we move forward.
In the last week, we went over the doctrine. The block EP soon with the person. Of Jesus Christ. So not only do we need to pay attention to Jesus Christ, but we need to understand what's behind that. What is going on? What are some of the benefits or what is the Dark Brenda described occupation with the person of Jesus Christ. So we went through these things. I'll just go through them. Quickly, the Highlight them for you. So by definition occupation with Christ is the highest spiritual function of the believer in time. There is nothing more important in your life and you're living, then to be occupied with Jesus Christ, it is the highest use of your time here on Earth is to be occupied with that is studying understanding examining who he is, his thinking what he has done for us and that you do through the word of God, there is no other means. You can try to do the exam and your navel meditation type of thing. And sometimes people get a few things out of that they can make some observations and try to tie them together. But it's really a Jesus that is pulling from the text, what? God put their that is going to have that dramatic effect until it is the examination of God's word, the studying of God's word, the studying of the Lord Jesus Christ, the studying of the Dynamics of Salvation. What is The Bible say in about salvation and what isn't it? We need to understand those distinctions if we are called to one of the things that the pastor is called, not just read but defend the Sheep without a swage. You of not thinking wrong things though. You may have never thought of them. Until someone says something, don't think about that, pink elephant in the back of the room. Until I said that you didn't have an image of a black of a pink elephant in the back of the room. So why would never do that? I don't want to do. I have to study that, why do I have to consider this heresy? And that heresy because it's part of what we as pastors are commanded to do for the flock? So they can be those times and those people in those reflection to say about this,
But it is mandated from God to us that we engage in that studying process. What is important? Secondly. Occupation with Christ. Four wheelers in the category 1 low, that is our love between ourselves and God which the mature believer with Bible Doctrine in his soul is capable of appreciating. You see knowledge of God is the basis of love of God and if you don't know anything about God, you don't actually love God. The less, you know, about the more, you know, about God, the more, you know, him the Bible study is equipping you with the knowledge. You might be able to love. Very basic, and yet, very, very necessary. That's what we do. They're immature because we need to teach them and teach them. Give them experience, teach them how to proceed. Teach them how to think, give them a basic underpinning of values that are needed in their life. All of this, we do so that kids can think. Same thing is true in the spiritual realm, we can be immature, we can be immature. The difference is learning to think and learning to think correctly, learning to perceive correct in all of that comes from Knowledge from Bible Doctrine, functioning of the Soul third, we have the Manifest person of the godhead.
Being Christ himself.
He is.
How we understand. God Christ says, if you have seen me, you have seen the father This is what exam and hear him. As we examine him, we understand his attributes, we understand his character qualities and seeing them in Jesus Christ. We see them in God, the second person of the godhead who came to worse, joined himself with the man and the hypostatic Union. God is our source of understanding. Jesus Christ is The Fountainhead of your knowledge of God. 24. We have occupation with price. Shown to be the maximum expression of Love towards God. So it is the maximum expression when you are occupied with studying, in gaining insight into who Jesus is what his background is. What he says about himself. What does prophecy say about him? What insights do we have? Based on what he said to Pharisees, versus what he said to Sinners? What can we know and learn and understand about him every point. Here is a maximum expression of our love towards God. The more we understand Christ, the more we maximise our love relationship with God.
FC. Take out a number out of order here.
Oh, that was those number for
The number for Rocky patient, with Christ, begins with the Believers entrance, into the Super Grace life that is, it is not until you become mature or that you really gained the capacity to be occupied with price. Just find a very interesting children loved very much. We have nothing between them and the understanding that he is the source of their salvation, he is the Delight of their soul. There's a twinkle in the sparkle. That comes to shoulder when you talk to them about Jesus Christ and it's right but it doesn't compare at all to what is in the soul of the believer who has knowledge of Jesus Christ.
A, you coming to that point of maturity, as we explained last week, the goal is always to become mature and so it is true in the spiritual life. Our goal is to become mature mature. That's when occupation with Christ really opens up, that's when everything transforms
Poinsettia X. Occupation with Christ glorifies Christ.
Jesus Christ is glorified as we examine him.
Fusion3 says to come to know the surpassing knowledge or knowledge. Love would be a better translation, their knowledge Love Of Christ. It is occupation with Christ knowledge. Love is the concept here. You can't love without knowing you can't know without loading. It is knowledge. Love it is a combined concept.
47, their shoes. Me point seven. We saw that the means of occupation with Christ is found in the very process of what we call the grace apparatus for perception, or everything, having to do with God's word from his revelation of it, until the point that it is taught and taken into your soul. The entire Grace. Perceiving process, God has provided for its based on his grace, it's by grace that he gave us his word by grace, that he gives us a faster to teach us by Grace. We have the ability to absorb it, to understand it as we're at fellowship and God. The holy spirit is accommodating, our thinking, and giving us spiritual insight into these things.
Occupation with Christ eliminates. The superficialities a few minutes, celebrity s*** gas on people. People are people oriented. We tend to think about what people do. Last night, I was at one of the big events for the Oregon Wine experience. They have a massive they put up over on South stage and I was blown away as I brought my family in sat around a table there. When I looked in my glasses on there were tables and tables and table down there. And it's all the fundraisers fundraising event for the assanti foundation, which is the under writer for the big expansion that they're doing for the expansion, they're doing for children, so they're making it possible. So the children for many situations, we no longer have to go up to OHSU, but they will be able to stay down here in southern Oregon and have their needs met, not be ripped away from their homes. Hundreds of miles away. Family have live inside of hospitals, and inside a little tiny you know the McDonald House is a great and wonderful thing they provided there but it's not your home. So why they're making it so that people can live here. But
Human Celebrity ship is when we are oriented towards people. What I saw there. Last night is the way that people dress in the way that people interact and we had people with evening gowns on, even though we're walking on the lawn people who were there, just in there, wine, tasting, or Country Club. You know, a nice apparel. Emily gets the other people didn't wall. Interesting. Because a few days before I taking my cousin to her here, visiting for my mom's 80th in the wind celebration, I got him hooked with a couple of things and so they're up here and we were over in Rogue River, because I wanted to go to Paesanos little little hole-in-the-wall Italian Shop. If you haven't been to it before worth checking out, the guy has a Tuscany connection, his food is all very authentic. So I just get a hankering every once in awhile for a real Italian sub, not the kind you can get anywhere else, but the kind that they have there, and it's wonderful things over there to get some various food and stuff in from the 70s walking around, you know, with cutoff shorts in strange, apparel, and hairdos that you haven't seen in decades and decades, but over there, nothing wrong with Rogue River, but I just happened to see Who are the people who are still disconnected from mainstream reality, Fashions, clothing. It was kind of humorous. And I was talking to my cousin about and I said, yeah, this is the real Oregon over here. Everyone is trying to look like them, so we are people oriented. But with occupation, with cries, we lose the people orientation. We become occupied with what Christ is like, you see, that's what's important, doesn't matter what I'm like, I'm just a teacher. My job is solely to dig into God's word and presented in such a way as you can understand and Grill by it. My job is to be pastoral. That is unacceptable. I'm a Shepherd, but I'm using technical skills, studying God's word. So, you can understand the text of his word, but who you need to be occupied with his Jesus Christ. Not me. You don't want to be like me, you want to be like him. Jesus Christ is amazing in the more we study and the more we have insight into that. So we have people who are immature and it is an immature thing. Then to put your pastor up on a pedestal or anyone else. And if you do, you know why you'll realize is, I have feet of clay. I am human. I will break. I will disappoint you in ways that are unimaginable, but Jesus Christ was faithful Gear. Solid. He was consistent. He's the one you were to be looking at.
Point nine. We saw that occupation with Christ motivates the pastor teacher to communicate Bible Doctrine to the royal priesthood. The idea here is that we are connected with Jesus Christ, you see?
We are acolytes. An Alkali is someone who is a follower of someone who is distinct than special. Real colitis of the people that are drawn to them want to be part of a cult. I want to be part of the coal to those who follow around and Zeus or Apollo's or because the term comes from that context, today we have acolytes of movie stars. We have acolytes of music
The rockstars. But now it's whoever is the latest viral musician on the internet.
But something peculiar happened when we were born again. You see, we were adopted by Jesus Christ. He had doctored us into the family know, that's an odd thing. And it's not the kind of adoption that we have here today so you can get your adoption papers together. Go through the adoption process work with individuals, find a Jennifer that, child legally, make him your son or daughter.
And that will be the relationship into the future. But what is it happened in adoption. In the biblical space. Is Jesus Christ, followed the Roman adoption process and that when we are adopted we are brought into the same relationship that she has with everyone else.
See, Jesus Christ has a father. So he becomes Our Father.
Jesus Christ is royalty. So we become royalty. We are not acolytes in the sense that we are following. After someone we have been adopted, it's a different thing. So the pastor is motivated because we realize that you are royalty, you are of the family of Jesus Christ. We should be part of what drives the pastor in his thinking, and his thinking process is to help make this clear to delineate it to show you the distinctions. It is a whole separate thing. Then what's going on out there anywhere else? You may have others out there. Today, we have colts where the Colts are saying. You need to be like this. You need to do. We are churches out there that used to be mainstream churches and no longer are because they the band and salvation, they've abandoned the concept of sin. They've abandoned the concept that we have a great wall separating us from God. Video of abandoned the concept that there must be Redemption. There must be atonement. The sin must be paid for all that has been passed away. So they have what we call a social gospel that is teaching you how to be a better person.
it's about being social, it's not a real gospel, it's the good news of Here's the good news. You can follow the Golden Rule. And that's the peak, that's the Pinnacle. That's the ultimate the way that you want to be treated, you get to treat everyone else. That's the social gospel.
There's nothing of Jesus Christ. There's nothing to deal with send. There's nothing to deal with eternity. What we have to deal with is powerful. Because it is truth and it's dealing with the issue of sin. The issue of Separation, the issue of a payment that had to be made and it was made by Jesus Christ. But at the end of the story he has made you adopted into the relationship with God, the father. So we are priest and ambassadors. We represent God we can personally go into the throne room of God. Why? Because were adopted That's why there's no other reason you don't have a right to go into the throne room of God. except because you've been adopted there for any child can come running into the throne room anytime they want to, That may not like it in the human realm. But in the Eternal realm, it's encouraged. Go running to God. Go into his presence, absolutely encouraged.
so we have some perspectives that are gained as copter is it important to produce the Dynamics of occupation with price,
As you are pursuing Bible Doctrine so that it might function in your soul.
It will cause you to be occupied with Christ.
if you're pursuing the other thing, lots of notes, you're not going to be occupied with price, you can be occupied with notes, but if you are occupied with Bible Doctrine functioning in your life,
That's almost like an accountability thing. Isn't it? Almost? it's different, it's Grace, it's not a human concept here, but good to know. 111.
We are the illustration.
The walkie patient with Christ. Found the doctrine of correct orientation in marriage and we touched on this a little bit last week, really. The point is, the marriage relationship is one that is supposed to tell us about our relationship with Jesus Christ. because as the man, it's supposed to be loving and his wife, that loving is a picture of Jesus Christ, washing us with his word, he's provided everything to wash us to cleanse us, And marriage is supposed to be a picture of that. Now, it isn't always. Some marriages are. Better than others. It's always two people involved. but the point is it, the husband's job is to love into Pour out, love on the person. He is married to and Jesus Christ. Pours out, Love by washing Us in the water of his word.
Who were moving forward from where we were last week?
We're moving into strategic Victory, with strategic Victory. We see in point 12, the documentation with fries is related. To be strategic victory in the Angelic conflict. The Strategic Victory is talking about how the battle has already been won.
There are Through the Ages, many, many battles or strategic in nature.
And just like playing chess the great Masters playing a game and seven moves nothing I can do anyway, when I go it's Checkmate, seven moves or less, but if I put it right, it's checkmates. Instead of move there, many battles that have been like that as well. You get your troops to move here, their troops move here. The other trips that they didn't know about enough flanking the backside splitting and it's over with the battle is done because the strategy
The strategy was the key, that's the case here, the strategy of God, the strategy of the work of. Jesus Christ was the key for the Victory and it's already been acted out. There is no reversing Checkmate in 7. No Checkmate already happen. What, who are still playing the game? Where are you?
Think about it. We have a few things to examine here. First, let's take a look at Colossians 3 verses 1 through to where we read if then you were raised with Christ. And seek those things which are above where Christ is sitting at the right hand of God.
if you were raised with Christ,
seek those things which are above where Christ is the Christ has been raised. He's been descended, you are in him. So seek the things above seek the victory, seek the perspective, seek the Divine Viewpoint that he has, where he is standing at the right hand of God. So, what do you think that means sitting at the right hand of God? Does that mean he's a nervous? Spectator what's going to happen next? What's going on?
Not so much.
Verse to clarify that. It's a hebraism. It's speaking. The same thing, two times in two different ways, set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth, be aware of the Divine. Viewpoint, the Divine perspective, what Jesus Christ has accomplished not, what he's going to accomplish, don't be as concerned about what you need to see worked out in your life today tomorrow. This week, the coming months as much as you are concerned about what Jesus Christ has already done and then everything else today. Tomorrow next month, he is going to be worked out.
Google work.
The work has been done. Christ has provided the victory. There is nothing left for us to do but to enjoy the victory which we do by studying his words studying Christ oriented towards him. This is a Victorious thing that we do.
It's interesting because sometimes we get the feeling like, it's not a big before you sing. We're doing. We're scrambling with everything. We have to get as much dr. As we can now because we're underwater, the landslide has taken us over here at the bottom. And we see these coming down on us, like some have been rafting down the white waters of the Rogue River. You falling out of the boat and everything is turning every which way you're smacking yourself against rocks, going past logs and
So there is nothing left for us to do. However, but to enjoy the victory, walk in the victory exalt in the Victory, and engage in the victory. No, we are still in Warfare, but the enemy has fallen. I'm not sure that a lot of Christians still get that in our time right now, today the mummy explained. People are looking around there. Seeing bad things all around us. Did you see? Oh my gosh. What did the FBI do now?
Signs, that the enemy of our souls is making inroads in our culture.
So people are saying to each other. Have you seen what's going on? Yeah, It's bad, isn't it? Yep. Have you seen it this bad before? No. It's bad, isn't it?
I hope the Lord comes back soon.
Now, we certainly have Insidious Darkness at work all around us. But don't think that we are fighting for victory or to obtain Victory because if we're examining our culture instead of examining Jesus Christ, we will think that it's over that we have lost.
If that is your flight, if you're always fighting an uphill battle in your mind, trying to gain traction, trying to win, that will affect your mentality and your approach to life and you're living the spiritual life. So what's it like living the spiritual life when you're always losing?
Was that the right perspective. If you're competing in the games which is our contacts were talking about and you get up to the starting block and they go, boom, and you take off. What's it like, if you have already lost in your head, what's going on? Are you competing? What's your mentality? Are you enjoying it? Are you working it? Are you doing everything. Are you utilizing all the gifts that you have to be able to win?
No mentality is important in our mentality, comes from a correct orientation to what God has already done. And we must absolutely be aware that we are in Victory. So we aren't fighting for victory.
Our Lord already won the victory. Now, we can note that our son of David Jesus Christ, Yeshua Jesus won a great Victory, on the crossover steering over death over, Satan and his realm. Over the curse of Adam over the enmity between God and man, there is no realm of conflict battle. Etc, over which Christ Jesus was not Victorious on that day on the cross. So if you think you have some area of battle that just needs to be one, you are mistaken. It was one. You just a missing out on vital fact. You're in the midst of the war may be down a canyon. Maybe you got separated. That's what the enemy does. He cuts off communication. He separates us and you can go as long as your orders are good for But you've accomplished your orders and you're standing around going, okay, what the heck's? There's no communication. Then what happens? That's why we need to be constantly plugging in making sure we understand what the orders are like this to order run the race focusing on Jesus Christ. These are orders. This is the goal. This is the object of having all this Bible Doctrine functioning in our soul that we would have an ability to apprehend to ascertain to communicate. Who Jesus Christ is in every situation. Baltimore and you don't know what to do. Examine Jesus Christ. Talk about Jesus Christ, explained Jesus Christ who so often and we're in a situation with someone else where there was someone else, who doesn't know the Lord. they can be kind of awkward because we're thinking,
Should I say something? But y'all just open the door. Well, I don't know but I know this. When you're looking at, Jesus Christ, doesn't matter anymore and we can more easily share the things about Jesus Christ. We often times have unnatural natural walls, we put up stuff outside of my Lane. I'm not going to say anything. Why? Did God tell you that you are separate from those people that you can't interact with them know who told you that. Probably you. Use the sermon of course but it's always about Jesus Christ in every situation. I've never found a situation where I couldn't explain who Jesus Christ is and what he had done. What his focus is where it was not absolutely 1000% lickable. Now, people may hate Jesus Christ, let me run and they may hate you for bringing it up. I thought about it long enough, people say that their pastors immediately people do it.
So I thought that I was the last several days going to different events and stuff. You know, if I mention you know, what are you doing now? Oh well actually, I'm spending a lot of my time doing that pastoring thing the little church and they okay. You later don't want, don't want any of that. Jesus stuff. Don't get any of that on me.
So there's no real more conflict over, which Christ was out Victorious on that day. On the cross, the victory of yahshua. Jesus, was stunning. It was unprecedented. It was jaw-dropping even to those who knew him and loved him. What happened on that cross was inexplicable? No one expected it in that way. No one saw it coming. Except Jesus Christ. He knew what he was up to he knew where you was going. You knew what his plan and purpose was, which raised is one of my favorite photo pause. The, what would Jesus do bumper stickers, from back in the day? Which I always hated still hate to this day. What would Jesus do? I say? I look at them. When I say, we would do the cross and he would pay the price for all of our sins. What do you think you would do? TriMet 20, humanize my situation and put Christ and put shut up, go away. Take your trailer somewhere else. I'm going to relationship with the real. Jesus Christ. Not with your mock presentation of it. I'm sorry, I'm smiling. That's my thing. So you don't have to make it your thing that's just my thing.
What he did was unprecedented in the victory of yahshua. Jesus was predicted, it was foretold, it was modeled and it was intentional. Let me go back over that everything that he did on the cross was predicted.
Everything that he did for us. Now, we may not have understood the scope in the reality.
But Jews should have had some concept when you have millions of people coming to Jerusalem.
and they're kicking all those animals, through their killing
Take the cuts, put it on the Harper, Amex in there, going through millions of people. Massive, massive.
Someone should have been connecting with. There is a big payment that has to be made for sin. Do they really think that these cows and sheep and so forth or the paint? Really. That's like the runner running with his head down looking at his shoes. That's ignoring all the facts and not looking ahead and losing side of the context. So the victory of Jesus was predicted, it was foretold that this was all going to happen and it would be a Victorious. Situation. It was modeled in all of the offerings in many situations where we have types of Christ throughout the Old Testament and it was intentional was not an accident. He didn't accidentally end up on the cross. It's not like the Life of Brian. If you want a truly horrid, English view of things which are my friends but you're not invited nothing like what they had all the popcorn and goodies, they're going back to the apartment and then we're like besties and I'm like, it might offend you were afraid to offend you and I'll come watch it anyway. So I went and watched For the First Time The Life of Brian and I found it hilarious and I just laughed and I laughed my laugh. Like we thought you would be offended offended about Jesus Christ. This is this is Awesome British. So you may have to turn your eyes a side, if you think a few times, and but but it's humorous, it's funny.
Right? There's one scene in particular. Yeah. They might you might
Yeah, it was suicide. It's his British humor and it's prep-school humor. And it's for those people have been been raised in Latin and stuff like that, which so,
the victory of Jesus was predicted for toll model and intentional who have a picture of this in the Old Testament, which by the way is no accident. We're going to look at that. Just showed up as a word and then we'll look at it here in the next hour 1st, Samuel 17,
Let's take a look. We'll just start reading here and then we'll come back to it. After the break 1st, Samuel, 17 verse 1. No, I want a que this up. I would really like to go all the way back to First Samuel chapter 15 where we see that Saul has offended. God. And Samuel walks in and says you are the king no longer. Because you have followed the instructions and you have caved into the influence of Maritime. Instead of following, the will of God, you are not a king. You're not my representative for this nation. And it broke Samuels hard to do it. I didn't want to do it but I follow God's word God's instruction and he did that to me told Samuel I told Saul and so I left and he said, please bring me back to God and so Samuel did and it returned any restored in brought him back to a Basic resolution of the situation. Now, I want you to find my real king and he sends Samuel off is like way to Samuel. Is going to kill me. I'm at me and I'm afraid, that's all. She's going to kill me. If I do this, I'll let me get. Let me figure it out for you to go down to Bethlehem. And when you get to Bethlehem, go to the elders at the gate, when you get to the others, at the gate, there will be Jesse and his eldest Sons will be there at the gate as well and I want you to know I'm coming with you. So what we find is that it's actually in that coronation situation. It is Jesse his sons and all the Elders of Bethlehem that are there at that time and it runs them through. He says, here's my oldest starts with the best. It works its way all the way down to finally, David who's often the field away, and he brings them in and God says, that's the one. He will be a man after my own heart. Doesn't just mean his affection. It means his thinking he will reflect a relationship with God. That God wants to see. Once the show is being instructed. And he annoys him right there and from that moment on the text says, David.
Had a relationship with God. The Holy Spirit. God the Holy Spirit was upon him. We'll come back and look at this will get into the text when we return in the second half. Starting in 1st, Samuel chapter 17.
And I know I'm not going to give away. We'll come back then. What's closing for a girly? Father, we thank you for the opportunity to study a word. Pray that you would guide us and lead us and right-thinking and right relationship and right, orientation. You think you that your word, instructs us? But we also think you that there are many things we need to see, we must be Grace oriented, we must be Doctrine oriented in our thinking. We must be oriented to your grace provision that we might walk in the filling of the spirit enabled and equipped to live the spiritual life by Grace, not by our assets are abilities. But by yours which you have given to us, We seek to fulfill in to understand even more our role as royal family of God, as we study your word, we pray that you would give us that the deposit. Wait we might come back and study even more effectively. You think we pray in Christ Jesus name.
To Portsmouth.
How can I still see the sign?
Trumpet song.
It's not so long.
And I drove my father. We thank you for such an apt presentation. You are the place of our stability. You are our stability. You are solid. You are unmovable. And there is nothing that shakes you and it's on you. But we rest in our thoughts are thinking or circumstances or concerns more. Concerns for our loved ones or concerns for circumstances. Oh, sweetie to who?
And the joy.
God's Greater Houston.
There are there only father today. On this day, we come to present our gifts and offerings to you, a reflection of a great perspective. We give a chain this perspective, by examination of your son, we have seen that he came to pay the price a price unpayable by anyone. Any man that payment to absolve us of the cost of sin, but yet, we must still trust in him rely upon that act, personally that we might be safe. And as we are, the righteousness, is applied to us. That is not our own and therefore we see this. We recognize that became a man from his riches. He sunk down into the poverty of man, I need a price.
Looking at that then Lord. We reflect our gifts gifts of Grace response, responding to what you have done to what Christ has done with our heart and her attitude fixed solely on Christ Jesus. Then thankfully we give these gifts to you, by Sangre 11. It is so sweet to trust in Jesus.
coronavirus from
Amen. Hallelujah.
All right. No silliness.
Yeah. What happened to you? There's no pink open in the back of the room.
It's so cute.
Alright, let's open our teaching service and prayer for dually. Father, we come before you we have had opportunity to send back at this end table. So any need to confess the sins, while we take opportunity to be in fellowship with you. Lord, we thank you that you have provided. The means, if we confess our sin, you are faithful and just to cleanse the Lord. Forgive us and cleanse us of all unrighteousness. Therefore, we are equipped. We are empowered. We are enabled by. God. The Holy Spirit to walk forward with Grace recovery in the Ministry the god, the Holy Spirit provides for our teaching in our understanding for you to take this time and utilize It For Your Glory. The same as we pray, we are in Christ Jesus name. Right, where PJ masks in the first, Samuel chapter 17 will just start reading from the top 1st, Samuel 17, the Philistines gathered, their armies together to battle. And we're gathered at the gap between the stucco, and as the car in the eppys, downman And Soul, by the way, that's just a description of the mountains in the valley right there, where they came together in the conflict between the Philistines. And the Israelites actually had a video that does a fly over the whole thing but I couldn't figure out how to make it work here. So maybe next time if I get tech support, help me figure this out, then I'll be able to show it to you but so that's what that all that verbage was about. It's a big hills region and you would have all your room is lined up on one side and the other hand them a shout and Jeremy scare each other and then they go running home to their. Mommy, is in the battles over first tooth and soul. And the man of Israel were gathered together in the end times in the valley of elah and Drew up in battle array against the Philistines, that means that they spread themselves They have their Warrior outfits on ready to go into battle and that's what you do because the battle could ensue at any moment and an army would be foolish to say put on my battle armor and get ready to go. So, you're prepared from the outset and to spread in battle, array means to array yourself to spread yourself out. So they have the best view of what you look like and they're terrified of you. Therefore you have the advantage when you go into battle because they're afraid that you're going to wipe them out and that fear drives them to make mistakes and to make tactical errors and to be destroyed. So they drew up in battle array first three, the Philistines stood on a mountain, on one side and Israel, stood on a mountain, on the other. With a valley between them. First for any Champion, went out from the camp of the Philistines. Named Goliath from gath, whose fight was six cubits and a span Now, we have various ways of trying to figure out what this means, but we are safely within good interpretation to say the Goliath. By all accounts, will close to 10 ft tall. We got our basketball players. So,
Shaquille O'Neal is 7 ft 2 and when he was playing basketball, he's about 3:20 to 350 lb. And a now that he's doing all the Gold Bond commercial from the Hyundai commercial that stop keys in his 400th. He's a big big guy, but they have them here in this battle. They had bigger better far more impressive Behemoth, huge people. Reply and he had a bronze helmet on his head and he was born with a coat of mail. This guy was not an amateur, he was ready to go and he was defended on all sides. By mail. K on the weight of the coach was 5000 shekels of bronze. Shekel is a coin. That means the wait. So in this time it makes sense to have your weight, be the commodity that you're dealing with. So we talked about an oz of gold. Can we talk about? You know, I got so many ounces of gold. Well, they have so many shekels of bronze or copper. And it is 5000 shekels of bronze. That one way to think about that, is that you take these shekels and you hold them out and then you found them together to create the internal linking walks, but is male. So it's a rounded or a shape peace beside in, with another shape piece. They're just kind of all tied together, tied together. So you have later is like or five thousand of these coins are shekels is what it took to make his mail coat. That is not only a w with a lot of weight. What's a humongous that is no man in this day and age is going to walk up and pick up the coat of five thousand shekels. Let alone go to war and Be an Effective Warrior. We're in that type of way. So he was We are being told he was big, he was tall. He was extraordinary really strong 46 any of bronze armor on his legs and a bronze juggling between his shoulders.
Throw the javelin.
Is just like a job when today and it's a piece of wood with a sharpened point and then you take it and you launch it. So he had that ready to go sticking up between the shoulder blades. Ready to scare everyone for sober. Now the staff of the sphere was like a Weaver's beam and his iron spearhead weighed 600 shekel Just the spearhead of his fear and a shield-bearer went before him. Now a step, like, a Weaver's being
When you think about this so we know it's a piece of wood and it's down at the bottom of what you're trying to leave. So the goal with a Weaver's beam as you have enough of everything, all the threads and everything that are hanging there or not cuz you put the Reds record we're not just going to wasting their but they are tight. That way you're able to be efficient and you're able to leave your shuttlecock back and forth and back and forth, back and forth and very quickly go through and do the work. And for that to happen, you have to have a very heavy piece of wood down at the bottom. So that's the reference here, they heavy. Piece of wood, verse 8, oz of the armies of Israel and he said to them. Why have you come out to lineup for battle? Am I not a Philistine and you the Servants of Saul choose a man for yourselves and let him come down to me for 9, if he is able to fight with me and kill me. Then he will be your servants. But if I Prevail against him and kill him, then you shall be our servants and serve us. So we have that type of arrangement. I'm the best and your bass, we're going to fight and whoever wins wins the battle, or you can just go for, but we're going to win anyways, because they got me. I'm going to keep taking out your best, until there's no one left. So that's what's going on here. You are so 10? And the Philistines said, I defy the armies of Israel. This day. Give me a man.
Verse 11. When Saul and all Israel heard these words of the Philistine. They were dismayed and greatly afraid. Translation trembling in their boots. Unwilling to move an inch from where they stood, no one was interested in this fight is the sign of that effort fights of Bethlehem Judah. Whose name was Jesse and who had eight sons and the man was old advanced in age. In the days of Saul first 13, the three oldest sons of Jesse, the Gonda follow Saul to the battle, in the names of his three, son to went to the battle where Eli add the firstborn next to him dinner, dad, and the third Shema, 14, David was the youngest in the three. Oldest followed saw the oldest of the family. Following after Saul.
But first 15, David occasionally went and returned from Saul to feed his father sheep at Bethlehem. first, 16 in the Philistines, Drew near and presented himself, 40 days morning and evening, soft fortnite a month, plus, this was going on on both sides. And he said, everyone trembled day after day after day, no one had courage / 17. Then Jesse said to his son David take now for your brothers and he thought of this dried grain and Beast run to your brothers, at the very least, 10 cheeses to the captain of their thousands and see how your brother is fair and bring back news of them. No soul. And all the men of Israel were in the valley of Eli fighting with the Philistines, like a preparing to fight failing to fight. But the conflict was real first 20, so David Rose early in the morning left, the ship with the kefir and took the things and went to Jesse had commanded him and he came to the Army was going out to the fight and shouting for the battle. So what that means is every day they were going out to mirror wrap Shields and they're screaming and yelling at each other and that was demoralized enemies. But it was getting demoralized verse 21 for Israel and the Philistines in battle array Army against Army. And David left his supplies in the hand of the supply keeper ran to the Army and came and greeted. His brothers verse 22 verse 23. Then what then there was the champion in the Philistine of gath Goliath by name coming up from the armies of the Philistines and he spoke according to the same. So David First 24, and all the men of Israel when they saw the man fled from him and we're dreadfully afraid. First 25, it's over this Trail said, have you seen this man who has come up? Surely his come up to Defying Israel and it shall be. But the man who kills here and the King will enrich with great riches, will give his daughter and give his father's exemption from taxes in Israel.
Interesting. First 26, then. David spoke to the man who stood by him. What shall be done for the man who kills this Philistine and takes away. The reproach from Israel. For who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of the Living? God?
You start to see instantly everything that we have been studying and we've been talking about we what is the focus of David on on the Philistine? New know? It's on God. But the entire Army including David's, brothers and fall and all the generals their focus. Was on the Army and not on the true and living God David alone have the right perspective, verse 27 and the people answered him in this matter saying. So shall I be done for the man who kills them? So they explain the kill Goliath. You get the King's Daughter, you get money and your family is exempt from taxes for life. No 28 verse, 28 alive. When he spoke to the man in the lab Sanger was aroused against did you come down here? Have you left? Those few sheep in the wilderness? We already read. Previously, that he left the chief was someone to care for them. He was wise and he was a Good Shepherd. In fact, the best Shepherd Israel ever had. Why did you come down here with whom have you left? Those few sheets in the wilderness. I know your pride and the influence of your heart for you have come down to see the battle.
No, we can play. We can do a lot of psychologizing here and try to figure out. Why is he saying that? Is it because Samuel anointed, David and not him. Could it be because that's happened already? Charpentier in the story. We don't know, but he is a scribing today, but that which is not true. His perception is incorrect to see, man, looks outwardly, God told Samuel is, but I look at the heart. I look at the inner person, you see your young little scruffy Shepherd, boy, I see the future king of Israel. You see someone who you wonder if your God is saying or not. I see the person who's going to set the standard for eternity of what it's like to be a friend of God and a leader of my people.
First 29. And David said, what have I done now? Is there not a clause 4:30 then he turned from him for the other and said the same thing in his people answered him as the first ones that. So he was just assessing the situation and talking to people first 31. Now when The Words, which David spoke or heard, they reported them to stall and he sent for him, First 32, then David said to stall, let no man's heart fail because of him, your servant will go and fight with this philistine. Little Shepherd guy here, talking to the king. He's not demonstrating his knowledge, that he's the future. King of Israel. He is demonstrating his knowledge that God will not allow this to Stan the God will intervene. As God has always intervene for Israel. He did not bring them to the Red Sea to die. He brought them to cross over. You, did not take them into the Wilderness just to wander around and die. Intention was to go into the Promised Land.
You do not leave them in the battle so that they would be destroyed. And again, in this situation, his goal was not for Israel to be conquered. Now, David was relying on Bible Doctrine. Maybe his having been anointed as King was part of that. But you know what? He had some insight as a result. He was young. He knew he was going to be the Future King. He knew this all was the king. It is, but Goliath was not going to win because God who did these things and said these things is faithful. He had that Revelation that Doctrine to stand on right at that moment. First 33 I'm Saul said to David, you are not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him for you. Are you? And he's a man of war from his youth. But David verse 34 said you are servant used to keep his father's sheep and when a lion or a bear came and took away, I'm out of the flock. First 35, I went out after it, struck it and delivered the land from its mouth. And one of the Rose against me, I caught it by its beard constructed and killed it. Like Samson before him. He killed a lion with his bare hands. That's not a youth to be messed with. First 36 your servant is killed both Lion and the bear and this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them seeing. He has defied the armies of the Living. God then why is he mentioning that? He's an uncircumcised philistine.
He's outside the Covenant with God. He is an enemy of God. He is not part of the Covenant, is not one who God has put his guaranteed upon Verse 37. Moreover, David said, the Lord, who delivered me from the, from the Paw of the lion, from the Paw of the bear. He will deliver me from the hand of the Philistine. Just hand is no different than their paws. God delivered me. Then God will deliver me now. He will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine and Saul said to go and the Lord be with you. So he recognized what David said was true there for. If God has been with you then we'll trust the God will be with you. I know, this isn't some people's minds and act of absolute craziness on the part of Saul to go with a kid who's telling him that he has killed lions and bears and now he can kill this philistine. What crazy person would risk their entire Kingdom based on that. But we have to recognize something here. I saw that already back in chapter 15 gone the way of man and done the man thing in opposition to God, he didn't do it the way God wanted, and he was called to account when he was told you lose everything. Now you are no longer my king and Samuel said to him, I will never speak to you again. So Samuel is not here, the profits are not here, no one is here to be able to speak to stall and explain to him the situation. So here he is. He's listening to this boy. Who is speaking the words of God and explaining to him? The principal in the character of God? And he actually is listening, what he is hearing is God will do the work. If that's the case, then he's making a smart decision for Israel for the kingdom. Verse 38. All clothes David with his armor and he put a bronze helmet on his face said, you're supposed to come with a coat of mail. Wears 39, a David fast and restored to his armor and tried to walk. Were you not stood them in the word tested here in the Hebrew means to try to practice to utilize. He was not used to wearing armor. Never worn armor. David said the Saul. I cannot walk with these for I have not tested them. I've never used armored before. This isn't going to work, so David took them off. 40. And then he took his staff. That is his representation, of his Shepherd position is representation that God had called him to be a Shepherd to say sheet. And he chose for himself five smooth stones. From the brook, put them in a shepherd's bag in a pouch, which he had in his swing was in his hand and he drew near to the philistine. So, the Philistine came and began Drawing Near to David in The Man Who Bore The Shield went before him. Where is 42? And when the Philistine looked upon and saw David, he dissed him. That is he looked down on him? Well, how could he not? I mean, you spent football. There's this little boy out here. For he was only a youth ready and good looking. So he saw an attractive kid there, but he's thinking why are they sending me a kid first 43? So the Philistine said, did David? Amaya Dodge you come to me with sticks. Why do you have that Shepherds Shepherd staff? So he's rejecting immediately David Presentation, that he is a Shepherd, but he is one. Who's used to protecting sheep. That is one who uses the staff in the sling for his sheep and the Philistine cursed David by his gods. They called upon the gods of the Philistines that he laid his curse is upon him. You know what the Psalms told us that there is no curse that can land on the right shift. What does that mean? It means if your Gods, there is no such thing as a curse. There's no one who can curse you. There is no one who is able to penetrate God, fire of protection around you. No one nothing.
If you're one of those people who is superstitious and you watch out for black cats and dogs up underneath ladders and all that, but I'm sorry. But there's nothing you can do to curse yourself. There is no curse that can wear and the candlelight we can have a hold on, you people can try which is contrary to pray, their coven ich curses they will have no affect your enemies. If you have them those people who hate you for being a Christian they can curse you. They can try to do things that they think will be accursed to you. We've all had it happen. We have those who have Stood up against this weather, be the government trying to step in and outside of the sphere that they have, right? Trying to invade our place, our position as family as parents. We can try that, but God is there for us, he is faithful, we can rely on him. First 44 in the Philistines said to David come to me and I will give your flesh to the birds of the air in the beasts of the field. Like I'm going to kill you easily. And I'm not even going to bother to clean you up. Not going to pick up your head, I'll give it to the birds and the beasts 45 than the David said, to the Philistine, you come to me with the stored with the spear in with the javelin. but I come to you and the name of the Lord of hosts, the god of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied
These are named via. This is a Her response, it goes down in history and stands for eternity. what we have here is, we have
David, we have the actual first king that God has set up an established. You see Saul was a false King that was provided for by the people and provided to the people, but he was not God's King. David was the selected King, the first king of Israel, But here we have the first team and he is saying this, I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts that it is the Army's. That's what hosts means, the conflict, the God of War, the god of armies, The God Who is the Conqueror of all? The god of the armies of Israel. Whom you have defied. We may be a little army, but we have a big dog. He is our God.
This is the first David and part of why we're looking at this picture is to show that this is foretelling for us. What is happening with Jesus Christ? See, Jesus Christ. Is the last David. He was the final king of Israel. There's no other king after him none. Other can qualify. The line has been there are no more of Israel. Not a valid one, C and there are two that stand out above all others, the first and the last The first king who relied on Jehovah walking into the worst situation possible. In the, we have our last king that is the Messiah Yeshua, Jesus, who walked into the worst situation, possible, a hellish situation in Jerusalem, where everyone and everything was arrayed against him. He knew what was happening. He was going to walk out Victorious. Just as David walked out Victorious.
First, 46 this day, the Lord will deliver you into my hand and I will strike you and take your head from you. And this day I will give the carcass to the camp for the Philistines to the birds of the air and the wild beasts of the earth just as you threatened That all the Earth may know that there is a God in Israel about you big guy. It's about God. And we're sending a message to everyone everywhere through all time. God is in charge and you don't get to come against him. So if you're an enemy of God, you're in trouble for 47 but all this assembly shall know that the Lord does not stay with sword. And spear for the battle is the Lord's and he will give you into our hands. I don't have to be concerned if you're bigger than me. I can't even wear a little set of armor. Compared to your massive huge set of armor skin consequential because this is God's battle that's about him. First 48. So, it was when the Philistine arose and came and Drew near to meet David. The David who read and ran toward the Army to meet the philistine.
He wasn't trembling, he wasn't in fear. He wasn't afraid to step forward. He ran toward the Army to meet the philistine. What are we studying right now running forward? In a battle situation. Fixing our eyes on Jesus would have David do here and forward in the battle situation but his eyes were on Jehovah on your way, on the god of the Covenant, on the God. Who delivers on the god whose battle it is 4:49 then David Wong it as he's running. As he's running and he grabs the stone puts it in the swing and he swings it. And it struck the Philistine in the forehead. So that the song, the stones sank into his forehead and he fell on his face to the Earth. See here, he was a massive man. Perhaps the greatest man on the planet. At that time raid in battle protected with armor with mesh clothing, with bronze phone number on his shins in his legs because of your big. One thing people want to do is they want to go for your legs and want to try to take out your Achilles. We want to try to cut your tendons and take you down so that's protected that's all dealt with. So he is really in every since he is a human tank of a man, perhaps one of the greatest ever to live in history, Do we have Little David running towards him? And what does he do? He takes out a stone and he swings it at the one spot. The one spot that unprotected. No, in the forehead could be forehead appear to also be right here. We have a saying it hit me right between the eyeballs.
That's exactly what happened in that song that soon sunk in just like a bullet out of a rifle. We watch the video while back on a Sunday night. And we were examining some of the information that have been uncovered about slings. Misguided, been doing a study and he found out you could get tremendous Force out of swings, and he saw some of the ways that they have been laid out and some of the documentation that have been found on swings and so, we got to see him talking about it. From his research perspective. And saw this Wings, could be very, very damaging and used in the hands of an expert, just like a gunslinger to give your average person. A gun to make it the tin can on the fence, probably not. When you give a gunslinger one, someone who has practice. Someone is sharpen their skills. Someone who has spent hour after hour after hour. In the pasture for the sheep with nothing to do but pick up stones and slinging them and see if I can knock off that Branch. Okay, ceiling knock out that twig. Okay. Stop a leaf off The Twig. Off the branch. Getting better and better nothing to do but hone your skills will the same thing going on today? We got all these kids playing video games and brain coordination skills in the Army in the military is desperate to get their hands on some of these people because they just have a coordination with the computers. Can't do, they get them in, they will utilize them in there or what they call those big boxes at there, and where they're controlling, it there, controlling a drone, halfway around the world through satellite. But there utilizing the same types of skills, the same type of interaction, the same type of reality.
Will David had every bit of that and more. The storm sink into his forehead. And he fell on his face to the Earth first 50. So, David prevailed over the Philistine with a swing and its tone and struck the Philistine and killed him, but there was no stored in the hand of David. What did David say? So. I will cut your head from your body. Did he have a sword? Know what did he know? He was going to kill Goliath and come and take his sword. Amazing. Make it even lifted. Verse 51, there for David Rand and stood over the Philistine. Took his sword and Drew it and killed him wasn't quite dead at this point, killed him and cut off his head with it. And when their Champion was bad, They fled. Why they were still the greater force. There were still Brothers of Goliath, the worm, quite as big as the wife but still much bigger than everyone in the camp and Israel. But they fled verse 52. Now, the men of Israel and Judah, a rose and shouted and pursued, the Philistines. As far as the entrance of the volume to the gates of extra on, and the one that are the Philistines fell along the road to Shaw, a Rahim even as far as gas in ekron 453 than the children of Israel return from chasing the Philistines and they plundered their tents, Let me ask you this. If Christ has won the victory already.
Where are we? If Christ is our David, he's going up against everything that stands against us, send death Satan. Enmity between God and man. All of those things that are our enemies. Have been abolished have been destroyed by the Lord Jesus Christ. So are we standing on the sidelines, watching waiting and fear afraid, for we checking out the enemy? Have you realize that the enemy is running? Away. Can you tell by looking at the world around us? This is not an enemy who thinks he's winning. Who is charging towards us? This is an enemy who is freaking out. Desperate. We look the landscape of American politics. What am I seeing? I'm seeing desperation everywhere. People are freaking out there doing anything they can send me the FBI into Mara Lago. What is that about? Desperation
They're afraid of something and they're doing everything in their desperation to try to stop it. That's a picture. That's a small microcosm, but it's everywhere. Why are people trying to teach our young children? Intersectionality teach them that if they're white that they're bad. If they're black, they're good. If they're gay, they're good. If they're straight, they're not. What are they being taught these things where they trying to bring transvestites into kindergarten? Why do they have transvestites and reading hours all over the library's vernation? Why is that happening? What's going on? There is desperation at work here. It's a desperate cry.
To jump in and take to renew me is always, desperation tyranny, is never based on security. See a king who is secure does not need to be a tyrant a country that is secure does not need to be tyrannical. A political party that is secure. That is based on reality, does not need to engage in tyranny. So what we have is a bunch of people who are trying to, we see the Tyranny and we think o big war. Big battle big attack. People who we have to stand up against and yet and maybe just the opposite gender question her.
Crazy now lying in the culture. So these people are trying to be as woke as possible crazy craziness. So, continuing on break 54 and David took the head of the Philistine, and brought it to Jerusalem, but he put his armor in his tent. Berth, 55 when Saul saw David going out against the Philistine. He said to Abner, The commander of the army Abner, whose son is this? You Never said I was at your soul is, I don't know. So this is interesting because in the previous chapter So I was having issues, he couldn't sleep, he was neurotic, God had removed himself from him, he had no options. He knew his kingdom was over, his kingship was gone. God had removed his Blessing. He was in disfavor With God. Samuel would never ever again. Talk to him. He would never speak from God's mouth to him. He was no longer a king to be recognized for his paranoid. He was absolutely crazy, but he was going to lose everything, and he was And because of this crazy mess, someone said you need a musician to come in and play for you. It's all they asked around is a Z1 or musician. There's this musician down in Bethlehem and he is skilled. As it was David. Install doesn't know that the guy who's coming and giving him. Musical constellation is the same guy who was standing for God before all of Israel.
45060, the king said, inquire whose son that young man is worth $57.
The Philistines ever took him brought him before saw with the Philistine in his hand. He's still carrying around that head by the hair and Saul said to him son. Are you young man? So David answered? I am the son of your servant. Jessie. The bethlehemite.
Who's going to be the next significant son of Jesse, the bethlehemite. Security, the Lord Jesus Christ. Are you fluid Jesus?
Is this a type of Jesus Christ? I don't know that it is. But do we see a picture here of what's going to happen? We have the first king in his character. Being revealed will have the second king and his character being revealed in light way. We both have battles, they both have victories to fight.
So, the victory of David was stunning. It was unprecedented. It was jaw-dropping even to those who knew and loved him.
See, that's exact same description. I used of Jesus. His victory was stunning, unprecedented was jaw-dropping, even to those who knew Jesus. So, too, with David was the same,
Now, but Jesus was Victorious, over sin and death. Testified to by his resurrection and he was made provision. He has made provision for his church, which is testified to by his Ascension and his section. That is his haven't been seated at the right hand of God. And we are enabled and empowered to walk as he did here on Earth, testified to buy the gift of God, the Holy Spirit first given to the church and given to everyone who believes in the church age.
Are you free to pick up next week on the characteristics of occupation with Christ? The characteristics of off uh with occupation with Christ really get into those. What? Do we associate with, or what are the character qualities that will be reflected? What happens for those who are occupied with Christ. So we've come upon a significant Doctrine here. This fixing her eyes upon Christ. We've got a few things to deal with, we got to go round and slice the onion, and and Olaf away and slice the onion Falafel later. We have to keep on doing that because they're obviously is a lot going on. Now, this is part two of what we started last week that it is sinequanon, which is the Lord Jesus Christ, meaning without which there is nothing. Masuda going on, Jesus Christ is our Civic went on without him, there's nothing but with him. There is everything everything that matters in the Christian Life in Christian doctrine, is based on an accurate understanding and Appraisal of who Jesus Christ is very, very important. We're going to keep our eyes, fixed on. That was closed and pre-order Lee. Father, we thank you again for this crime to enter into a worship by examination. Who Jesus Christ is. Thank you for giving us the picture. The story of David and everything that went on there. Thank you for giving us insight into how Jesus Christ is foreshadowed by David. The first king, who was the king of your heart is like the last king who was absolutely a king after your heart. One is considered the friend of God and the other is God himself was become a man to be the friend of all mankind. We thank you that we have these bookends to give us insight to develop wisdom to grow our Doctrine to appreciate what it is that we're dealing with. We pray that in the coming week that we find ourselves and courage. As we to look to Jesus, we pray that we find ourselves in Courage, as we put Doctrine in front of us, circumstances can smack yourself in the head, make us feel dizzy and out of order, but we pray that you would quickly returned us to focusing on you. As we deal with everything in life. We praise you that we get to deal with these things by Your Grace, by your grace provision, and not by our own abilities. Lord is by everything you've done for us. So first and best of all, we get to have fellowship with you confessed, no sense in Walk In The Filling of the spirit Orient, towards your doctrine that you have taught us. And then allow, Quit to function in our lives as we turn to it rely upon it. We praise you, and thank you. Thank you for giving us the Lord Jesus Christ, and teach us to see him better. He seems, we pray in Christ's name Haven.
