Today we are continuing in the spiritual Gifts in the way that makes the most since to me.
The way that makes the most since to me is from 1 Corinthians 12:4-6
1 Corinthians 12:4–6 CSB
Now there are different gifts, but the same Spirit. There are different ministries, but the same Lord. And there are different activities, but the same God works all of them in each person.
Different gifts (charismata)
Different ministries (Diakonion)
Different Activities/manifestations (energamaton)
Gifts flows into ministries which shows itself in different activities.
We have looked at the gift of prophecy, service, and teaching
Prophecy is the divine enablement to proclaim God’s truth with power and clarity in a timely and culturally sensitive fashion for correction, repentance, or edification. Ability to reveal God’s word. -Chip Ingram
Service is the divine enablement to attach spiritual value to the accomplishment of physical tasks within the Body of Christ. Ability to demonstrate love by meeting practical needs that releases other Christians for direct spiritual ministry. -Chip Ingram
Teaching is the divine enablement to understand and give detailed explanation of biblical truth. It's the ability to search out and validate truth which has been presented. -Chip Ingram
Romans 12:3–8 CSB
For by the grace given to me, I tell everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he should think. Instead, think sensibly, as God has distributed a measure of faith to each one. Now as we have many parts in one body, and all the parts do not have the same function, in the same way we who are many are one body in Christ and individually members of one another. According to the grace given to us, we have different gifts: If prophecy, use it according to the proportion of one’s faith; if service, use it in service; if teaching, in teaching; if exhorting, in exhortation; giving, with generosity; leading, with diligence; showing mercy, with cheerfulness.
Today we are going to talk about encouragement or exhortation as a motivational gift.

The Gift of Exhortation

The divine enablement to come alongside in need of encouragement to reassure, strengthen, affirm, and challenge those who are discouraged or wavering in their faith. -Chip Ingram
It's the ability to stimulate the faith of others.
People with this ask: “What must be done to fix this? How can we move to wholeness?”
The Biblical word παράκλητος ( Parakletos) means to come alongside or beside. This person has the gift of coming alongside other people.
This is the same word found in John 15:26
John 15:26 CSB
26 “When the Counselor comes, the one I will send to you from the Father—the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father—he will testify about me.
That word Counselor referring to the Holy Spirit is Parakletos.
Their goal is to bring wholeness and fix things. Often it's comforting, loving, affirming. But it isn’t just affirming its challenging. They can be in your face. Especially if people don’t change or they have been messing around.
These people often make good counselors. Yes, professional counselors but also just that person in your life that you can turn to.
You just go to them and say I am having a really tough time in my marriage. And they just come beside you and comfort you and love on you, but on the flip side of that is, you know we have been meeting for 11 weeks now and you have been telling me you have a terrible marriage. I got that part, now what? We have talked about some steps to take and you haven’t done a thing.
These people have a long fuse they are very loving, very affirming, but their goal is to help you get whole. and if you don’t want to get whole after a while, they will cut you loose.
They see practical application from scripture to help you find wholeness.
The call us the godly living, they initiate, they implore they request, they entreat. These are great people to have as friends.

Dangers of the gift of Teaching

The dangers of this gift.
They spend too much time with people who only want temporary solutions to their problems.
Another danger is they can become discouraged from lack of results from people who their ministering to. These people they've got to see people's lives change. And if people don't see it change they get really discouraged.
Like you know, what's the deal? Am I doing something wrong?

How does Service Manifest?

The gift of Exhortation manifest itself through different ways. It might be Pastor/Teacher, Evangelist, Prophet, Helping, Administration, Miracles
Not every encourager or counselor has the gift of exhortation.

Is this you?

Exhortation is this you? Is your gift?
No that is OK. As where everyone can encourage but that may not be your gift.
Prophecy, Service, teaching, Encouragement, Giving next week.
What is your gift?
What are you doing this week to use your gift.
