Biblical Counselors

Psalm 119:24

‘Your testimonies also are my delight and my counselors.’

• The word, ‘testimonies’ means the ‘Word of God.’

• The ‘Word of God’ is referred to as ~ law, testimonies, precepts, statues, commandments, judgments, word and ordinances.

• The word, ‘counselor’ is Strong’s Concordance H6098 and means ‘advice’

‘Your laws please me; they give me wise advice.’ NLT

‘Your instructions give me pleasure, they are my advisers.’ GNT

Paraphrase ~ The Word of God delights me and it’s where I go to get advice.

Psalm 19:7-9

• The word, ‘converting’ is Strong’s Concordance H7725 shuwb and means ‘to turn back’

• The Word of God helps our soul return to the way God intended it to be.

• The Word of God makes us wise.

• The Word of God is right ~ God’s Word makes our heart rejoice! God’s commandments are pure and bring light to our eyes!

• ‘The fear of the Lord’ speaks of awe and reverence for Him.

• God’s Word is pure and lasts forever. It is true and righteous altogether!

Psalm 19:10-14

• God’s Word is more desirable than much fine gold and better than any sweet we could ever desire.

• God’s Word will warn us of danger. We will profit and have great reward if we keep God’s Word.

• We can’t understand our own errors outside of God’s Word. Through God’s Word is how we understand our errors and get cleansed from our secret faults.

• The word, ‘presumptuous’ is Strong’s Concordance H2086 ‘zed’ and means ‘arrogant.’ It’s also translated ‘proud’ in other verses in the bible.

• The word, ‘innocent’ is Strong’s Concordance H5352 ‘nagah’ and means ‘to be made clean.’

• God’s Word keeps us from and cleanses us from sin and rebellion.

• When the meditation of our heart is right ~ our words will be right too.

• The word, ‘acceptable’ is Strong’s Concordance H7522 ratsown and means ‘delight.’ David was saying, ‘let my meditation on Your Word be a delight to You!’

Proverbs 11:14

‘Where there is no counsel, the people fall; but in the multitude of counselors there is safety.’.

Proverbs 15:22

‘Without counsel, plans go awry, but in the multitude of counselors they are established.’

We are to seek WISE counsel. Godly counsel

Seek someone who will get into the Word of God to find answers for you

and who are led by the Holy Spirit within them.

Godly counsel can be found:

• From the Holy Spirit within us.

• The Word of God is a counselor.

• Godly people who go to the Word of God for you and are led by the Holy Spirit within them.

Psalm 1:1-3

• ‘The counsel of the ungodly’ refers to the wisdom of the world. It’s advice from unbelievers. It’s opinions that go against the Word of God.

• David was placing a blessing on those who take pleasure in the Word of God and those who meditate on it, day and night.

• The word, ‘meditate’ here is the same word, ‘imagine’ in Psalm 2:1. So as we think on God’s Word ~ we are to imagine it as well.

• A tree planted by water, is blessed. It will never go without.

• If we meditate on God’s Word ~ we have an endless supply of God’s Spirit and we will never go without. We will bear fruit and get through the hard times in peace.

• Whatever we do shall prosper!

Proclaim Scripture:

‘The Lord your God is in your midst, the Mighty One will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.’ Zephaniah 3:17

We have the authority of His Majesty, King Jesus.

We have the power of the Holy Spirit in us.

We have the Word of God working on our behalf ~ when we speak it out.
