Intro; In this series of Intimacy with God [Moses], we have seen God use various circumstances and situations in Moses life to draw him into a close relationship.
Intimacy- close familiarity or friendship, bond of affection, knowledge of
Intimacy with God grows our faith and our faith determines our degree of intimacy with the Lord.
Tonight we see a climax of intimacy with God as Moses leads Israel in an Outburst of Intimate Praise after crossing the Red Sea.
Text; Exodus 15:1-18
1 Then Moses and the children of Israel sang this song to the Lord, and spoke, saying: “I will sing to the Lord, For He has triumphed gloriously! The horse and its rider He has thrown into the sea!
2 The Lord is my strength and song, And He has become my salvation; He is my God, and I will praise Him; My father’s God, and I will exalt Him.
3 The Lord is a man of war; The Lord is His name.
4 Pharaoh’s chariots and his army He has cast into the sea; His chosen captains also are drowned in the Red Sea.
5 The depths have covered them; They sank to the bottom like a stone.
6 “Your right hand, O Lord, has become glorious in power; Your right hand, O Lord, has dashed the enemy in pieces.
7 And in the greatness of Your excellence You have overthrown those who rose against You; You sent forth Your wrath; It consumed them like stubble.
8 And with the blast of Your nostrils The waters were gathered together; The floods stood upright like a heap; The depths congealed in the heart of the sea.
9 The enemy said, ‘I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil; My desire shall be satisfied on them. I will draw my sword, My hand shall destroy them.’
10 You blew with Your wind, The sea covered them; They sank like lead in the mighty waters.
11 “Who is like You, O Lord, among the gods? Who is like You, glorious in holiness, Fearful in praises, doing wonders?
12 You stretched out Your right hand; The earth swallowed them.
13 You in Your mercy have led forth The people whom You have redeemed; You have guided them in Your strength To Your holy habitation.
14 “The people will hear and be afraid; Sorrow will take hold of the inhabitants of Philistia.
15 Then the chiefs of Edom will be dismayed; The mighty men of Moab, Trembling will take hold of them; All the inhabitants of Canaan will melt away.
16 Fear and dread will fall on them; By the greatness of Your arm They will be as still as a stone, Till Your people pass over, O Lord, Till the people pass over Whom You have purchased.
17 You will bring them in and plant them In the mountain of Your inheritance, In the place, O Lord, which You have made For Your own dwelling, The sanctuary, O Lord, which Your hands have established.
18 “The Lord shall reign forever and ever.”
The reason I called this climatic is because I don’t believe that there is a time in a persons life of when they are more intimate with God than on the day when God saved them. And that’s what Israel is praising God about, their salvation in Him.
1. Praise God for His Victory; 1-5
1. Praise God for His Victory; 1-5
God’s victory was a glorious victory! He has exalted Himself above all the gods/goddesses of Egypt and its armies. His strength has become my salvation!
This was the same crowd that just a few hours earlier were complaining about God hanging them out to dry on the other side of the sea. It’s amazing what the power of God can do! AMEN!!
The reason for the praise is because God has delivered them from their enemy through faith. That walk of faith through the sea is what delivered them. They trusted God, became intimate with Him.
“Faith Is The Victory”, [chorus] Faith is the victory! Faith is the victory! Oh, glorious victory that overcomes the world.
God delivers us from our enemy [SIN] through faith. He casts our sin into the depths of the sea and covers them in the blood of Jesus Christ!
19 He will again have compassion on us, And will subdue our iniquities. You will cast all our sins Into the depths of the sea.
13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.
2. Praise God for His Fight; 6-10
2. Praise God for His Fight; 6-10
God is known for being a God of love, and He is. But God must also be known as a man of war [3].
And the great thing about the way God fights for His children is He doesn’t fight with conventional weapons. He uses supernatural weapons!
His right hand is glorious in power
His excellence [majesty] throws His opponents down
His anger consumes them like fire eats up stubble
The breath from His nostrils is the wind that blew back the waters and congealed them so they stood like a wall.
God breathed and the waters returned and drowned the army.
All throughout the OT you see God leading Israel in battle and gaining the victory for them. Starting with Moses in Egypt, Joshua claiming the Promised Land to David in all his battles bringing peace to Israel.
At Calvary we see God triumphing over our greatest enemy [Sin] through the sacrifice of His Son.
And He will return for the final battle to put all evil down and reign victorious [Rev. 20:7-10]
31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?
3. Praise God for His Character; 11-16
3. Praise God for His Character; 11-16
The character of a person defines that individual
Character- the mental and moral qualities distinctive to an individual. The strength and originality in a person's nature:
There is no god like our God! Amen
He is a glorious, holy, powerful, wonder working God. He shows mercy, redemption and guidance to those whom he leads to His holy habitation. He brings the dread of fear and trembling upon those who oppose Him. And He turns the heart of the enemy to stone till His purchased people pass by in peace.
8 Among the gods there is none like You, O Lord; Nor are there any works like Your works.
10 For You are great, and do wondrous things; You alone are God.
Psalm 89:6–10 (NKJV)
6 For who in the heavens can be compared to the Lord? Who among the sons of the mighty can be likened to the Lord?
7 God is greatly to be feared in the assembly of the saints, And to be held in reverence by all those around Him.
8 O Lord God of hosts, Who is mighty like You, O Lord? Your faithfulness also surrounds You.
9 You rule the raging of the sea; When its waves rise, You still them.
10 You have broken Rahab [Egypt] in pieces, as one who is slain; You have scattered Your enemies with Your mighty arm.
4. Praise God for His Faithfulness; 17-18
4. Praise God for His Faithfulness; 17-18
God is faithful to His Word and brought Israel to the Promised Land and planted them there.
2 You drove out the nations with Your hand, But them You planted; You afflicted the peoples, and cast them out.
8 You have brought a vine out of Egypt; You have cast out the nations, and planted it.
54 And He brought them to His holy border, This mountain which His right hand had acquired.
2 In Salem also is His tabernacle, And His dwelling place in Zion.
Just as God has been faithful to Israel, He is to all who call upon the name of the Lord in salvation.
10 And he said to me, “Do not seal the words of the prophecy of this book, for the time is at hand.
11 He who is unjust, let him be unjust still; he who is filthy, let him be filthy still; he who is righteous, let him be righteous still; he who is holy, let him be holy still.”
12 “And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work.
13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last.”
14 Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city.
15 But outside are dogs and sorcerers and sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and whoever loves and practices a lie.
16 “I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things in the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the Bright and Morning Star.”
17 And the Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let him who hears say, “Come!” And let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely.
When was the last time you had an Outburst of Intimate Praise to God?
