INTRODUCTION

Start telling a bunch of lies and see how long it takes the students to notice
Sometimes we get into the habit of lying so much that our lies become what defines us
Studies show in a 10 minute conversation there are 3-4 lies told
We Lie About So Many Different Things
Height
Accomplishments
beliefs
financial status
Why do we lie?

IDENTITY CRISIS

At the end of the day the primary reason that we lie is because we have an identity crisis. We want people to see us as something else because we don’t think they’ll like what they see if we were ourselves.

ANANIAS & SAPPHIRA

Acts 5:1–11 CSB
1 But a man named Ananias, with his wife Sapphira, sold a piece of property. 2 However, he kept back part of the proceeds with his wife’s knowledge, and brought a portion of it and laid it at the apostles’ feet. 3 “Ananias,” Peter asked, “why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and keep back part of the proceeds of the land? 4 Wasn’t it yours while you possessed it? And after it was sold, wasn’t it at your disposal? Why is it that you planned this thing in your heart? You have not lied to people but to God.” 5 When he heard these words, Ananias dropped dead, and a great fear came on all who heard. 6 The young men got up, wrapped his body, carried him out, and buried him. 7 About three hours later, his wife came in, not knowing what had happened. 8 “Tell me,” Peter asked her, “did you sell the land for this price?” “Yes,” she said, “for that price.” 9 Then Peter said to her, “Why did you agree to test the Spirit of the Lord? Look, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out.” 10 Instantly she dropped dead at his feet. When the young men came in, they found her dead, carried her out, and buried her beside her husband. 11 Then great fear came on the whole church and on all who heard these things.
They didn’t have too give anything, but they lied about what they sold it for and could give to win over the apostles.
The sin wasn’t that they didn’t give a certain amount, but that they lied about what they could give and were deceptive
When we lie we are not lying strictly to man, but to God
When we lie we let satan fill our heart
David lied in the old testament about his relationship with Bathsheba. He hid it from men, but the bible ended the story saying what he did God saw as evil in his eyes.
You will never ever be able to get one over on God.
That’s a problem for us because God sees what we do as evil

JESUS

God sees lying as evil. So evil that Ananias and Sapphira were struck down because of it
His grace for us is that even though we were sinners he died for us
The devil may have you believing today that there is no saving you because of the lies you have told or the things you have done
Maybe your a christian and through the message you realized that you’ve putting your identity in the wrong things lately
Maybe you feel the urge to put your identity in Jesus for the first time ever
Just know that God came and paid it all on the cross so you wouldn’t have too.
He came to be the bridge between heaven and earth
