Thin Line Between Love and Hate
…a self-examination class for every last one of us.
We’ll need to look deep within ourselves to see the message.
Ecclesiasticus 25:1 - the Lord is beautified in the love of neighbors
God says he’s beautified in the love of neighbors, but what does that mean?
We don’t even know what love is!
It’s hard to understand love when all we know is self-hatred
Leviticus 26:16-17 - hatred is all we’ve ever known
…and as a result, we hate our people
We Hate Our People
Deuteronomy 28:15, 54 - his eye shall be evil towards his brother
Doll Test
Matthew 24:8-10 - Because sin abound the love of many wax cold
Video 1: Jealousy & Self-Hatred
Start at 0:35
Psalm 25:19 - Consider mine enemies; for they are many, and they hate me with cruel hatred.
(lotta this in israel. Brothers wishing death on brothers, praying for their downfall, etc
Psalm 41:5, 7- Mine enemies speak evil of me, When shall he die, and his name perish?
Plot against you
James 3:8-12 fountain bring forth sweet water & bitter
John 13:34-35 - A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another
It’s new because we’ve never done it.
Romans 12:9-10 (ESV)
We Hate The Truth
Romans 8:35, 38-39 - do you really love the Lord if you can be separated from the Lord?
We have never known love - we haven’t tapped into it
Matthew 6:24 - no man can serve two masters. Love one or hate the other
We’ve been in love with the world - we can’t let the world go.
This chokes the word so that it becomes unfruitful.
Practice Self-Love
Ecclesiasticus 30:22-24 - Love yourself, or you’ll hate and envy others
There’s no way you can love others if you don’t love yourself
It’s for Israel to look deep within their self to actually see if they know how to love themselves and in turn reciprocate that love to their brothers and sisters in the truth hence where all the lack of charity, envy, hatred and strife comes from in the nation
2 Samuel 13:1-20 - Obsessive love turned into a story of hatred
Psalm 51:10-11 - create in me a clean heart
We know 1,000 precepts, but our hearts have not been reformed
Pray for a new heart and make your life about showing the love of Christ.
What is Love?
1 John 5:3 - this is love that we keep his commandments and his commandments are not grievous
#1 - Love takes action
#2 - Love requires obedience (we show our love through obedience)
In creating a clean heart, God will test your heart.
Mark 12:28 - 34 - Love is the 2 great commandments
(do you put your whole heart into serving TMH?
Do you do it every day, or only on the Sabbath? (give the lord my heart today, every other day my heart is in the world)
1 John 4:8, 11, 20 - do you love others?
So ask yourself, Who has God put in my life for me to love?
There may be people you have been unloving towards that need to see God’s love through you.
Or maybe, you have had an overall selfish attitude at work, school, or home.
Ask God to fill you with his love that you can, in turn, love others more than yourself.
If we love God, we will obey his commandments. And what does God command of you today?
That you love others.
So start today.
John 3:16 - Love means sacrifice.
Love is a giving spirit, a sacrificial spirit
(you’ll sacrifice for those you love)
John 15:13-14 - Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.
Luke 7:36-47 - love is about forgiveness
1 Corinthians 13:4-7, 13 - love is this
1 Corinthians 13:13 Explained
Love is the greatest because it is the root of the other two; "we believe only in that which we love; we hope only for that which we love.
And love is the greatest because love is for our neighbors; faith and hope are mainly for ourselves.
And love is the greatest because faith and hope are human, but God is love. . .
