You are my God!

iii. What about he guards?
iv. The Sentinels of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier stand watch 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, in any weather. Sentinels, who volunteer for this post, are considered the elite of the elite 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard), headquartered at nearby Fort Myer, Virginia.
v. You show respect and you don’t go near the tomb.
We:

David is on the run.

a. Saul wants him dead

vi. Saul is jealous and tries to kill David

xi. It was nothing that David had done to cause this

The battles we face

i. We may not have an army after us but there are other enemies we face every day.
ii. I can I give you a little secret
iii. I struggle with anxiety also every day.

v. Maybe grief, anger, guilt, regret, hopelessness, despair

The prayer of Jonah

i. He prayed a very similar pray
ii. The whale had swallowed Jonah.
iii. Jonah 2:2 (KJV) — 2 And said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the LORD, and he heard me; out of the belly of hell cried I, and thou heardest my voice.

iv. Have you ever been in the belly of hell?
v. God can hear our cry.
vi. Let’s look at our passage today.
God:

You are my God

a. Psalm 86:2
i. Psalm 86:2 (NIV) — 2 Guard my life, for I am faithful to you; save your servant who trusts in you. You are my God.

i. Many other translations use the word protect
ii. The prayer is a prayer of protection
iii. We are told to guard our hearts
iv. But this is different

I am devoted to you

i. David could ask God this because he was devoted to Yahweh
ii. David had a chance to kill Saul and he reframed – Saul was God’s anointed
1. I often want to take matters into my own hands and not lean on God’s guidance

Save your servant

i. David could appeal for God’s protection because he was God’s servant
ii. It’s surrender: When have dedicated our life to serving the Lord
iii. God in turn watches over us and protects us.
iv. We certainly can put our hope and faith in the Lord.

You are my God

i. I love this
ii. I serve the God of heaven
iii. He is a big God
You:

You don’t mess with the “The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier”

a. Those soldiers are the elite
i. It’s a secret if the guns are loaded or not
ii. But you don’t mess with the tomb

You will fight a battle every day

i. You get to choose how you fight that battle
ii. Do you fight that battle in your own strength?
iii. Or do you call on the God of Heaven
iv. Do you have that servant attitude
v. Not my will Lord but yours
vi. Are you devoted to the Lord
vii. Or is it a causal acquaintance

b. Just imagine a church of true disciples
i. God is calling
