I. THE SALUTATION—vv. 1–2

1. Person—v. 1. Paul the Apostle. Not Bishop or Pope.

2. Peace—v. 2. Paul wishes God’s peace upon the people.

II. THE SPIRITUALITY—vv. 3–10

1. Spiritual—v. 3. God has blessed us with spiritual blessings. Count your blessings—not troubles.

2. Sacred—v. 4. Chosen to be holy, without blame.

3. Salvation—vv. 5–6. It is God’s desire that all men be saved. Saved through His Son.

4. Son—vv. 7–10. (a) Redemption—v. 7. (b) Riches—v. 8. (c) Reunited—vv. 9–10.

III. THE SALVATION—vv. 11–14

1. Plan—vv. 11–12. We are saved to bring honor and glory unto God—not only to escape hell.

2. Promise—v. 13. Salvation promised from the beginning of the world. It was promised in Genesis 3:15, and throughout the Old Testament.

3. Possession—v. 14. We now possess salvation. There is joy in serving Christ. However, after death, there is the hope of eternal life.

IV. THE SAVIOUR—vv. 15–23

1. Praise—vv. 15–16. Paul filled with praise for the Christians, and prays for them.

2. Prayer—vv. 17–19. Prayer for wisdom. Prayer that their spiritual eyes may be opened, and that they may understand God’s power more fully.

3. Power—vv. 20–23. Power which resurrected Christ from the dead. If this same power dwells in us, we will have extra power to live an overcoming Christian life.

With each privilege from God comes responsibility. Many want privilege, but not responsibility.
