Lesson 1 - What makes you angry
Lesson 2 - Compare what makes you angry to what God is calling you to!
Now Moses was keeping the flock of his father-in-law, Jethro, the priest of Midian, and he led his flock to the west side of the wilderness and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. And the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush. He looked, and behold, the bush was burning, yet it was not consumed.
And Moses said, “I will turn aside to see this great sight, why the bush is not burned.” When the Lord saw that he turned aside to see, God called to him out of the bush, “Moses, Moses!” And he said, “Here I am.”
Let’s look at another characteristic of Moses…
What do you see?
“I will turn aside to see this great sight, why the bush is not burned.”
I have questions… Why is the bush not burning?
“When the Lord saw that he turned aside to see.... God called to him out of the bust”
Moses was inquisitive
curious or inquiring.
unduly curious about the affairs of others; prying.
I was reading an article..
Everyone is born with it; it’s innate and natural to every child. But somewhere along the way, we lose our sense of how to use curiosity to expand our minds.
Albert Einstein
“The important thing is not to stop questioning… Never lose a holy curiosity.”
Leadership Lesson - What makes me angry should make me curious…
(Curiosity test)
The Lord saw that he turned aside to see…
The Lord saw.... This is a very reassuring statement!
“God called to him out of the bush...”
“Moses, Moses!” And he said, “Here I am”
Think about this.... Moses responds tooo....
“And the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush.”
A flame of fire? The angel of the Lord appeared as a flame of fire…
It was a flame talking to Him...
But Moses was not afraid?
Then he said, “Do not come near; take your sandals off your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground.” And he said, “I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” And Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look at God.
Recap
1) Moses has this anger/aggression but towards injustice
- Hebrews being mistreated
- Egyptian vs. Hebrew
- Hebrew vs Hebrew
- Shepherds mistreating women
2) Moses is inquisitive / He’s curious
3) He’s not afraid… To explore / Take a risk
4) He has a fear of God
He has some type of understanding of God
His mother taught him about Abraham / Isaac / Jacob
“And Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look at God.”
He has this humility and maturity
Note: Moses was 4o when he left Egypt
His around 80 at this point…
“When he was forty years old, it came into his heart to visit his brothers, the children of Israel.
Now Moses was eighty years old, and Aaron eighty-three years old, when they spoke to Pharaoh.
A 40 year Moses is not the same as a 80 year Moses…
The 80 years Moses has to depend on God and not Strength!
Then the Lord said, “I have surely seen the affliction of my people who are in Egypt and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters. I know their sufferings, and I have come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land to a good and broad land, a land flowing with milk and honey, to the place of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites.
“I have come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians”
And now, behold, the cry of the people of Israel has come to me, and I have also seen the oppression with which the Egyptians oppress them.
#1 They have been cry out for a very long time! At least 80 years
Come, I will send you to Pharaoh that you may bring my people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt.”
i have come down
Vs. Come I will send you…
But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the children of Israel out of Egypt?”
Have you ever felt like Moses? (Group Share)
Who am I that I should go?
