John 8:44-59..........
John 8:44-59..........
Before we get to our text, tonight I want us to read together 2 events in the walk of Jesus Christ!
Turn with me to Mark 5:1-20........we will not read the whole account.....
The demon-possessed man of the Gadarenes....
He was living in the tombs......cutting himself.....very violent......crying out in the tombs.
Horrific sight I am sure.
The demons immediately know Who Jesus is.....
One preacher said that the demons were fundamentalist the knew the doctrine better than we do.
The demon-possessed man ran and worshipped Jesus......he shouted what business do we have with one another?
He asked the Son of God not to torment him!
Jesus tells the demons to come out and then asked their names.....
Legion they said for they were many......A Roman legion was made up of about 6000 soldiers.....
If that was their number....whoa!!
They begged the Son of God to not send them away but to send them in the swine!
Jesus granted their desire and cast them into 2000 swine and they ran violently in the sea and was drowned.
The man that had the demon when he was seen, was sitting up, clothed, and in his right mind.
This formerly demon-possessed man became the first Evangelist, he began to publish or pronounce what had happened.
Now, turn with me to Luke 5:17-26........
Jesus was in a crowded house mixed with all kinds.....some Pharisees, teachers of the law
He was teaching......
Friends of a paralytic man tried to get in but it was too crowded in the house and so they lowered him through the roof for Jesus to heal him.
Jesus tells this man that his sins are forgiven.........the scribes and Pharisees began to reason within themselves that God is the only One that can forgive sins!
Jesus displaying His omniscience (knowing everything) why was they reasoning?
Is it easier to say thy sins are forgiven or tell this man to pick up his bed and walk.
Well, in truth and that very moment the easier thing to say would be to forgive sins........the healing, to the eyes of the flesh, would seem more difficult.
Forgiving sin is way more difficult, in reality, it has to be paid for which Jesus will do......
Healing someone in the physical body is a simple task to God.
Jesus did both!
Now, let me ask you a question about both of these accounts, what did you get out of them?
Although the scene involves a few folks and their deliverances, but what is these deliverances all about?
Are you pulling from this that Jesus can take care of my situations and He can if it is according to His Father’s will!?
Let me just tell you what I see.......I see God the Son, the Christ that is sovereign over all things!
The Only One that can heal, command demons where to go, and the Only One that can forgive sin!
What these accounts reveal to me is that Jesus is God, the eternal God! God the Son with all power in Heaven and Earth!
This not doctrine/teaching on how to heal, cast out demons, this is a declaration of God the Son, The Messiah that has come to earth!
We can get lost in particulars of all of Jesus’ life but the greatest revelation is that Jesus the Christ the Son of The Living God!
John 1:1-18............Grace and Truth came by Jesus Christ.....Behold the Lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world!
The Pharisees knew about this Messiah and rejected Jesus even after all the signs that proved He was!
Healings
Commanding demons to go
The weather obeying His command
Calling the dead out of the grave.
One preacher said that when called for Lazarus Jesus had to say Lazarus’ name or all of the dead would of come out.
Forgiving sin!
John 8:48-59........Jesus told them that their father was the devil and that they knew nothing about God!
All of the religious folk talk was that Abraham was their father.
Jesus said that Abraham rejoiced at Jesus’ day
How could this be you are only 50 yrs old!
Jesus said before Abraham was........He used the name for God here......I AM
That our Lord by this expression asserted his divinity and eternal existence, as the great I AM.
7 times Jesus uses this declaration as God.....
John 6:35 “And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.”
John 8:12 “Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.”
John 10:7 “Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep.”
John 10:11 “I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.”
John 11:25-26 “Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?”
John 14:6 “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”
John 15:5 “I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.”
Jesus covers it all.........Everything about His person, everything about His earthly ministry, everything about His Finished Work, Everything about Him today.....is all we need!
This is why we come together, let me say this it better be! It doesn’t matter what men do, it doesn’t matter what happens in the country, it doesn’t matter how things turn out for you........
All that truly matters is Jesus full of Grace and Truth.......John the Baptist set his entire life toward Jesus.....Paul did too and many others........their lives were fixated on Jesus The Christ The Son of The Living God!!
All the things we talked about this week can only be found in the Person and Complete Work of Jesus Christ!!
When I read John 15:5 “I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.”
This is what I understand, that Jesus is my ONLY True Source for anything!
Because without Jesus Christ I can do nothing!
Look around this world......everything that is being done outside of Jesus Christ in reality in nothing!
It has zero value..........
Paris Reidhead on Galatians 2:20 “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.”
You got all you wanted was just to be saved from sin and hell and you try to live the Christian life day after day trying to be good and do good, you get close only to fall again
You are trying on your own efforts and they are empty....he said to look at the cross from the backside and see the nails protruding out the back
