America the land of opportunity draws people from around the world. I was maybe five or six, and forced to face one of those "What Will You Be When You Grow Up" exercises, I didn’t choose astronaut or architect. I chose “career-person,” as I so aptly called it, outfitted with a fancy pantsuit and a nice office. I guess you could say I was prescient. Or had little imagination.

AVERAGE NUMBER OF JOBS IN A LIFETIME [2022]: ALL STATISTICS

By Chris Kolmar - Apr. 5, 2022
Career Change statistics ZIPPIA RESEARCH Job Seeker Statistics After extensive research, our data analysis team concluded: The average person changes jobs 12 times in their lifetime, according to the latest available public survey data (2019). The average employee stays with their employer for 4.1 years as of January 2020

GENERAL CAREER CHANGE STATISTICS

37% of the U.S. workforce changed or lost their job in 2020.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, more than one-third of U.S. workers either changed or lost their jobs in 2020—roughly double the typical amount recorded over the past two decades.
Of the 37% of American employees who had changed or lost their job in 2020, 26% had a different job, and 11% were unemployed.
In addition to the average age of job hoppers, it’s also important to note that most people looking to switch careers are not in it for the money. In fact, 58% of people surveyed by Indeed said that they would be willing to take a pay cut to make a major career change.
God Designed you to work.
Many in America today have the wrong idea about work.
Young boy in school.
Mom, I’m hopping mad at Adam and Eve. Why?
Dad told us the Bible story and that because of Adam and Eve’s sin, God made laws and work.
Because of them I have to go to school and I’ve wasted 7 hours of my life today!
Before the Fall.
Genesis 2:15 CSB
15 The Lord God took the man and placed him in the garden of Eden to work it and watch over it.
As believers.
Ephesians 2:10 CSB
10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time for us to do.
If able bodied, God expects you to work.
2 Thessalonians 3:10 CSB
10 In fact, when we were with you, this is what we commanded you: “If anyone isn’t willing to work, he should not eat.”
Questions to ask as you seek God’s power in your work?
What skills do you love?
Proverbs 22:29 CSB
29 Do you see a person skilled in his work? He will stand in the presence of kings. He will not stand in the presence of the unknown.
What will pay the bills?
Ephesians 4:28 CSB
28 Let the thief no longer steal. Instead, he is to do honest work with his own hands, so that he has something to share with anyone in need.
Where has God placed you?
Esther 4:13–14 CSB
13 Mordecai told the messenger to reply to Esther, “Don’t think that you will escape the fate of all the Jews because you are in the king’s palace. 14 If you keep silent at this time, relief and deliverance will come to the Jewish people from another place, but you and your father’s family will be destroyed. Who knows, perhaps you have come to your royal position for such a time as this.”
If you really want God’s Power in your career, work to live for Him and stop living to work.
There’s a study a few years back that once you hit 75K adjusted for city and inflation that more money doesn’t significantly raise your happiness of life quotient.
Do your best for the Lord, no matter how you feel about the work or surroundings.
What you do for a living is not as important to God as much as how you do it and for Whom you do it.
Colossians 3:23 CSB
23 Whatever you do, do it from the heart, as something done for the Lord and not for people,
b. Seek to Bless others like Boaz wherever you work.
Ruth 2:4 CSB
4 Later, when Boaz arrived from Bethlehem, he said to the harvesters, “The Lord be with you.” “The Lord bless you,” they replied.
Application:
Pray for your heart and mind to align with God’s purpose for your career and job.
Pray for opportunities to speak a word of blessing to your bosses, employees, and/or coworkers.
Look for opportunities to invite those who need Christ to a service event or a Bible study.
