The Farmer

2 Timothy 2:3–5 NKJV
3 You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. 4 No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him who enlisted him as a soldier. 5 And also if anyone competes in athletics, he is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules.
Sometimes people feel like they need to expose something in you walk
Combative nature
Try to trip you up
Always remember that the supreme Rule or rules of Christianity is Love
We speak the truth in Love
not the truth in wanting to be right
not the truth in justice or the truth in judgment
The truth in Love
So we’ve seen Paul compare the roll of the Pastor/Christian Leader
Soldier
Athlete
The Farmer/Workers
Matthew 9:35–38
35 Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. 36 But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd. 37 Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. 38 Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”
2 Timothy 2:6 NKJV
6 The hardworking farmer must be first to partake of the crops.
1. Hardworking
The first aspect of the farmer that Paul points to is that he’s a hardworking
Hard-work can cover a multitude of ignorance
Unlike Paul, Timothy is really one of the first examples we see of a full time ministry position in the new church
Paul was a tent maker by trade and continued working while working in his apostolic gifting
Timothy was Paul’s overseer if you will
Spiritual and the natural
Be hardworking
Things the Bible says about work:
Psalm 90:17 NKJV
17 And let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us, And establish the work of our hands for us; Yes, establish the work of our hands.
It’s up to us to put our hands to something and he establishes the work of our hands
Deuteronomy 30:9 NKJV
9 The Lord your God will make you abound in all the work of your hand, in the fruit of your body, in the increase of your livestock, and in the produce of your land for good. For the Lord will again rejoice over you for good as He rejoiced over your fathers,
It’s up to us to to put our hands to do something
it’s up to God to bless it
Proverbs 13:4 NKJV
4 The soul of a lazy man desires, and has nothing; But the soul of the diligent shall be made rich.
This isn’t a lazy mans gospel
This is a constant process of discipline and hard-work to discipleship
1 Timothy 5:8 NKJV
8 But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.
“Idleness is sweet, and it’s consequences are cruel.” -John Quincy Adams
Proverbs 12:24 NKJV
24 The hand of the diligent will rule, But the lazy man will be put to forced labor.
“People say nothing is impossible, I do nothing everyday.” -The great winnie the pooh
Colossians 3:23 NKJV
23 And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men,
The way you do anything is how you do everything
You can fake it for a bit, but the truth comes through
We must be content, first, to Work
2. Then we wait
Genesis 8:22 NKJV
22 “While the earth remains, Seedtime and harvest, Cold and heat, Winter and summer, And day and night Shall not cease.”
There’s no overnight successes in the body of Christ
There’s always a seed time and harvest aspect to the things of God
It’s true in our own lives
That’s why its’ so important to hear the word of God
The Spoken Rhema word
That plants seeds and it cultivates fruit in our live
Faith for Healing
I’ve heard hours and hours of teaching of the word of God
But suddenly it clicks
Suddenly theres a REVELATION knowledge
Ephesians 1:17 NKJV
17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him,
Revelation knowledge doesn’t come from a closed Bible
Revelation knowledge doesn’t come from closed ears
Or a quiet mouth
ARE YOU LISTENING OR OBEYING
That’s why is so important to protect the seed
Seeds get planted
What happens after to the seed determines the outcome
A storm comes
Weeds come in
Same with sowing the word of God in others
It’s a constant process
My son Beau keeps putting his shoes on the wrong foot
It’s like clockwork
It takes time for the revelation knowledge in others people’s life
IT TOOK YOU TIME!
Why do we keep getting angry when it takes others time too?
1. The Farmer is hardworking
2. The Farmer understands it’s not an overnight process
3. The Farmer understands he’s ultimately a steward of the land
Our lives are not our own
Agrarian society back then
90% of farmers in ancient Rome were working someone else's land
They were usually farming for the rich or rulers in that day
In the same sense everything we have on this earth we do not posses
We’re simply stewards of what God has given us
Genesis 39:4–6 NKJV
4 So Joseph found favor in his sight, and served him. Then he made him overseer of his house, and all that he had he put under his authority. 5 So it was, from the time that he had made him overseer of his house and all that he had, that the Lord blessed the Egyptian’s house for Joseph’s sake; and the blessing of the Lord was on all that he had in the house and in the field. 6 Thus he left all that he had in Joseph’s hand, and he did not know what he had except for the bread which he ate. Now Joseph was handsome in form and appearance.
How you steward what God has given determines your capacity
Dream or Calling/ Stewardship/Enemy/Obedience
Paul is telling Timothy you have to work hard but you need to be a good steward of what God is giving you
Luke 16:10–12 NKJV
10 He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much; and he who is unjust in what is least is unjust also in much. 11 Therefore if you have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches? 12 And if you have not been faithful in what is another man’s, who will give you what is your own?
2 Timothy 2:6 NKJV
6 The hardworking farmer must be first to partake of the crops.
4. We eat the fruits of our Labor
Let’s look at this a couple of different ways
I think of this as being first to partake of the crops
1. There’s reward and the end of our labor
Galatians 6:9 NKJV
9 And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.
2. This has to be in us first so we can show it to others
Ezekiel 2:5–10 NKJV
5 As for them, whether they hear or whether they refuse—for they are a rebellious house—yet they will know that a prophet has been among them. 6 “And you, son of man, do not be afraid of them nor be afraid of their words, though briers and thorns are with you and you dwell among scorpions; do not be afraid of their words or dismayed by their looks, though they are a rebellious house. 7 You shall speak My words to them, whether they hear or whether they refuse, for they are rebellious. 8 But you, son of man, hear what I say to you. Do not be rebellious like that rebellious house; open your mouth and eat what I give you.” 9 Now when I looked, there was a hand stretched out to me; and behold, a scroll of a book was in it. 10 Then He spread it before me; and there was writing on the inside and on the outside, and written on it were lamentations and mourning and woe.
Ezekiel 3:1–4 NKJV
1 Moreover He said to me, “Son of man, eat what you find; eat this scroll, and go, speak to the house of Israel.” 2 So I opened my mouth, and He caused me to eat that scroll. 3 And He said to me, “Son of man, feed your belly, and fill your stomach with this scroll that I give you.” So I ate, and it was in my mouth like honey in sweetness. 4 Then He said to me: “Son of man, go to the house of Israel and speak with My words to them.
This has to be in us
Beau and Josie
Teaching them about tithing
You cant take the fruit from me and I won’t give it up either
What tree are you eating from
Matthew 7:16–19 NKJV
16 You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? 17 Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
What kind of fruit are you eating?
