There Is Power in the Name!

Christ is not Jesus’ last name.

Christ is one of the many titles identified with Jesus.

Do youtake the Lord’s Name in vain?

“Not me!”, you say in protest. But is that really so?

The third commandmentforbids taking the Lord’s name in vain.

The word vain can mean “empty,” “nothing,” “worthless,” or “to no good purpose.”

We are forbidden, from blaspheming or cursing the name of God…

We are forbidden, from using the name of God for making false and empty promises…

We are forbidden, from lying in the name of God…

But we also should avoid using God’s name carelessly, nonchalantly.

The misuse and the nonuse of the name Jesus Christ have robbed believers of the true power of God in our lives.

Yeshua Hamashiach

· It is sad that the name “Yeshua” is meaningless to most Christians

· Most are unaware of how we got the name “Jesus Christ”

Jesus Christ is a shortened form of “Jesus the Christ” which is a transliteration from Greek into English.

Jesus the Messiah (The Anointed One)

Yeshua Hamashiach

Hamashiach / Messiah / Christ is Yeshua’s title. It’s not His surname.

What does a title tell us about a person’s identity?

· A Title reveals a special character of a person’s identity. Wilber Warner is known by his title doctor—he is called Dr. Warner. If he is playing golf on the greens, no one will give much attention to his title until someone gets sick and needs a doctor.

· A Title reveals one aspect of a person’s identity. A person may have multiple titles.

· A Title is acquired. No one is born with the title doctor. However, a child born into a royal family may acquire a title—once again it is acquired.

· Titles designate an authority or a power that the individual has.

Yeshua the Anointed One

· Anointed Salvation = The Name that Saves Empowers

As Faithful Followers of Yeshua Hamashiach we need to operate in the anointing.

1. Yeshua Saves. Yeshua literally means Salvation—the Salvation of God. Yeshua is Anointed to Save.

Luke 4

Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, left the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, where for forty days he was tempted[a] by the devil.

14 Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and news about him spread through the whole countryside.

16 He went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. He stood up to read…

18 “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, 19 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”[f]

Acts 4:12 And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.

The “no other name” argument motivates me to call Him Yeshua…

1 Corinthians 6:11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

The Importance of Holiness

I use extra virgin olive oil on my body, especially during the cold months when my skin dries out.

But I only use it after I have washed…

I get especially foul after a day of fishing. I rinse, and wash several times…

I use lemon juice and peppermint soap.

Psalm 51 tells us that we need to be clean if the anointing is to operate in full effect.

Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. (v.2)

Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. (v.10)

The name of Jesus the Christ is effective and efficacious when it is called in righteousness and holiness.

· Both Justification and Sanctification in the name of Yeshua Hamashiach

· Anointed Salvation = The Name that Saves Empowers

The Anointed Salvation is available to all believers. When you give your life to the Lord Yeshua, you become born again, and are saved for all eternity.

Most importantly, you become authorized to use the name of Yeshua—Access Granted.

2. ANOINTED SALVATION—WE ARE EMPOWERED

Acts 3:6 But Peter said, “I have no silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk!”

· The anointing upon the believers is more valuable than money and material possessions.

John 14:13 “Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.”

When the seventy-two disciples returned, they joyfully reported to him,

“Lord, even the demons obey us when we use your name!”

Luke 10:17 NLT

the demons are subject to us / obey us / submit to us

We Have Authority over Evil in Jesus’ Name

· The Anointing that was upon Yeshua to defeat Satan is ours through His Name. There is Power in the Name of Yeshua Hamashiach.

· Victory on the Battlefield of Spiritual Warfare is ours through the Mighty Name of Yeshua.

Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven. 16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.

James 5:14-16

As The Priesthood of Believers—You are Called to Operate in the Anointing of Yeshua (1 Peter 2:9)

But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.

From White Coats to Long White Coats

First year medical students are given a White Coat, symbolic—they identify with the calling for which they are in training.

The White Coat Ceremony is a rite of passage for medical students.

A white coat is placed on each student’s shoulders and often the Hippocratic Oath is recited, signifying their entrance into the medical profession.

The short white coat works as a stepping stone to the longer white coat many students progress to at the completion of their degree.

In like manner, we have this Mantle—The Anointing from Yeshua…develop it

· A strong prayer life

· A hunger for the Word

· A love for others, especially for the lost and for your brothers and sisters in the Lord.

· Manifest the Fruit

· Discover your Gift and Operate in it.
