Absolute Praise
Absolute Praise
Intro: When we pray how much do we spend praising God? We have no problem telling God what we want him to do for us. Psalm 103 should help us get rid of a complaining spirit and replace it with a heart of gratitude to the Lord. Charles Spurgeon called it a bible within its self.
The first 5 verses is personal praise.
VS 1-2 “Bless the Lord, oh my soul”
To bless the Lord means to praise, exalt, and worship the Lord God.
VS 1 And all that is within me, bless His holy name!
VS 2 And forget not all His benefits: (Not just here on earth, but 4ever)
Benefits are in the rest of the Psalm
1. Pardon: VS 3 Who forgives all your iniquities,
David begins by reminding us that God forgives us of all our sins. That should be the foundation for everything else.
Our greatest problem can be the guilt we feel because of our sin. Knowing that God forgives us of all our sins that is good news. ALL
Past sins, future sins. Sins that have been committed and are yet to be committed.
What a God we serve. What Grace.
He is eager to forgive. He is ready to forgive. He wants to forgive.
2. Healing: VS3. Who heals all your diseases,
We have great medical technology today. Elab. But nothing can compare to the healing power of God
That is why we pray for the sick.
If we were sick and now are healthy, give thanks to the Lord.
If your cancer is in remission, give thanks to the Lord.
If you nearly died after an accident but some how survived, give thanks to the Lord.
Divine healing comes in different varieties.
3.Deliverance: VS. 4 Who redeems your life from destruction
Redeemer means to rescue from danger.
Deliverance “the pit” refers to death.
Think of all the miles you have driven in your car without no accident yet people die every day on the highways. God has preserved you to this every moment and has protected you every step of the way.
We will all die one day. It may be in a accident, it could be a sickness. But is you are saved does it really matter how you die?
VS4 “Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies,
The love that God has for us is loyal, unending, unchanging. He pours his love out on us.
He crowns us with tender mercy. Tender mercy means He knows what we are going through and he meets us where we are.
If we received what we really deserve we would have no chance. So we don’t receive justice we receive mercy.
The crown reminds us of our position as the children of God. When we think of crowns we think of Kings and queens. But it is the privilege of every Christian to be crowned with lovingkindness and tender mercy.
5. Satisfaction: VS. 5 Who satisfies your mouth with good things,
There is nothing that on this earth that can satisfy us deeply except God himself.
To be satisfied means to be full that you need nothing else. David speaks of a satisfaction deeper then the world can offer.
Last part of VS 5. that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
Your youth is renewed like the eagle. (Strong, overcoming, soaring) Isa. 40:31

6 The Lord executes righteousness And justice for all who are oppressed.
7 He made known His ways to Moses, His acts to the children of Israel.
8 The Lord is merciful and gracious, Slow to anger, and abounding in mercy.
9 He will not always strive with us, Nor will He keep His anger forever.
10 He has not dealt with us according to our sins, Nor punished us according to our iniquities.
11 For as the heavens are high above the earth, So great is His mercy toward those who fear Him;
12 As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us.
13 As a father pities his children, So the Lord pities those who fear Him.
14 For He knows our frame; He remembers that we are dust.
15 As for man, his days are like grass; As a flower of the field, so he flourishes.
16 For the wind passes over it, and it is gone, And its place remembers it no more.
17 But the mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting On those who fear Him, And His righteousness to children’s children,
18 To such as keep His covenant, And to those who remember His commandments to do them.
