Romans 5 Part 2

We said that in order to grow in our charterer we have to learn how to suffer.

We must learn how to suffer correctly. We can come out of a trial a better person or a bitter person. We can come out with proven character or fall apart.

It not the the test but what we do in the test. We must persevere the right way:

Well what is the right way? Joseph

Joseph was betrayed by his family - yet responded with continual forgiveness.

When Joseph was being tempted by Potiphars wife he said “how could I do this wicked and terrible thing and sin against God.”

However King David failed this test and ended up committing adultery and murder.

Then Potiphar sent Joseph then went to prison after doing the right thing. He helped the wine taster to the pharaoh and who could help get him out of prison was forgotten by him when the wine taster was restored.

Through all of it Joseph did not get bitter but got better. When we respond consistently right in a test even if it seems like we are going down we are going up in the will of God.

Perseverance means consistency. Continue to do the right thing under pressure to do otherwise.

Are you tempted to give up? Stop doing what is right in the midst of temptation.

Romans 5:2 ESV

2 Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

The word access (prosagogein), has also been translated “introduction” (NASB), “brought us into” (TLB), “been allowed to enter” (NEB). The use can include permission to enter or the act of entering itself. Paul does not have in mind the believer standing outside of God’s grace with permission to enter, but rather that through Christ we are ushered into God’s very presence. The thought is not about possible access to God, but accomplished access to God. Having been introduced to grace, we now …

This is a covenant of Grace because its between the Father and the Son and we get in on through the Son. We ride on His coat tails if you will.

Romans 5:9 ESV

9 Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God.

As much as we are amazed at the justification we have in Christ, how much more will we stand in awe when we realize the magnitude of God’s wrath from which we have been saved.
