My Story: Lacking Clarity and Purpose for my life.

The Problem: Uncertainty and Lack of Purpose

Uncertain
Unclear
Lack of direction
Lack of purpose
Anxiety, Depression
Burn out

The Key Point: God’s Word gives us Clarity and points us to our Purpose

Julia’s story:
Her faith really came alive in college.
Love for God and His Word.
Party: Where were you? “Getting some time with the Father.”
Everyone wanted to be her friend.
Purpose: Everywhere she went she was being used by God.
Do you ever stress? “No, I don’t think I’m ever stressed.”
What Happenned? She had encountered God, and she was regularly encountering God’s Word.
God wants you to know Him.
God wants to meet with you.
God wants you to spend time with Him.
He wants to direct your life, give you purpose and meaning.
God wants you!
Imagine what life would be like if...
you could have a face to face meeting with God every morning before you got started with your day.
Image how life might change after one week
a year
a decade
a lifetime
You can have this. God has made himself available to you each morning.
Isaiah 50:4 (ESV)
Morning by morning he awakens; he awakens my ear to hear as those who are taught.

The Solution: The Word of God

Direction and purpose
Psalm 119:105 ESV
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
Truth
God
Self
World
2 Timothy 3:16 ESV
All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,
Instruction, Wisdom and refreshment
Psalm 19:7 NLT
The instructions of the Lord are perfect, reviving the soul. The decrees of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple.
God encourages us to make God’s Word a priority in our lives
Psalm 1:1–2 ESV
Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.
God’s Word is Treasure:
Isaiah 11:9 ESV
They shall not hurt or destroy in all my holy mountain; for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.
Isaiah 11:11 (ESV)
In that day the Lord will extend his hand yet a second time to recover the remnant that remains of his people...

A time is coming when people will rightfully esteem even a single word from God as more valuable than all the earth’s treasures. An insatiable passion for the Bible will compel men and women to lay aside every frivolous entertainment in order to spend time studying it.

The Way: How to Spend Daily Time with God?

1. Set a time and a place.

Mark 1:35 ESV
And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he departed and went out to a desolate place, and there he prayed.

2. Have a plan for your Bible Reading.

3. Gather your supplies.

Bible
Notebook
Pen
Optional: Warm-Beverage of choice

4. Read and Reflect on the passage for that morning.

5. Record your insights in a notebook.

The Barriers

I don’t have the time
You make time for what is important to you.
It’s true that schedules get full fast, thats why you must put it into your schedule rather than trying to fit it in at some point.
I’m too inconsistant
Think about what you are consistant in. What makes you consistant in that thing?
Do you go to your classes?
Do you make it to meetings you have committed to?
When you ask a girl on a date, do you show up?
If you are on a sports team, do you make it to your practice?
Why? You have decided to commit to it. You have made a choice to do it. Many people fail in spending time with God because they really haven’t decided to commit to it.
I’ve lost the desire
Our feelings will go up and down.
You choose to do it because you know it is important and will have a positive impact on your life.
Often times, feelings follow your actions.
I don’t understand
Thats ok. You will have the rest of yoru life to grow in understanding.
Focus on implementing what you do understand. Similar to practicing a second language.
You can jot down some questions and begin learning how to find answers. But don’t get to distracted with this during your time with God. Your time with God isn’t meant to be research time, it’s time for God to speak to you.

Conclusion:

Story of William McPherson: https://research.lifeway.com/2019/03/22/how-much-do-you-cherish-gods-word/
Live stick of dynamite
Blind - dependant - open to listen
Braille - lips?
Prayed - tongue slipped
Read the Bible 4x with his tongue.
Let us not be people who had every capability to encounter God’s Word, yet neglected to do so.
