The Big Drought

V 1-6
Deuteronomy 28:22–24 LEB
Yahweh will afflict you with the wasting diseases and with the fever and with the inflammation and with the scorching heat and with the sword and with the blight and with the mildew, and they shall pursue you until you perish. And your heavens that are over your heads shall be like bronze, and the earth that is under you shall be like iron. Yahweh will change the rain of your land to fine dust and to sand; from the heaven it shall come down upon you until you are destroyed.
Jeremiah 3:3 LEB
Therefore rain showers have been withheld, and the spring rain has not come. Yet you have the forehead of a woman prostitute, you refuse to be ashamed.
Jeremiah 12 4.
God promised them a drought if they turned away, and now it has happened
Jeremiah 2:13 LEB
“For my people have committed two evils: they have forsaken me, the source of living water, to hew out for themselves cisterns, cracked cisterns that can hold no water.
Living water is a flowing stream or spring
the land, the animals, the people are suffering because of the evil being done against God
All through the Judges the people would go into sin, God would send a defeating army
the people would come back to God (sort of)
God would send a judge to rescue them and for a while they would behave (sort of)
they don’t know the gravity of their sin
their rebellion against God
How much God hates all sin
God told Moses stand back I’m going to kill them all
and Moses interceded for them and God did not kill them

Jeremiah’s Intercession

V 7-9
Like Moses Jeremiah prayed for the people
you are our only hope savior
why do you pretend that you don’t see what is going on
why do you act like your a stranger passing through and don’t want to get involved
God’s Response to the people
V 10 they have gone to far
Gods response to Jeremiah
V 11 -12 don’t even bother praying for them
But the Prophets
V 13 - 18
Jeremiahs is going to intercede again
V 19-22

The Coming Judgement, God’s Sovereignty

15 1 not even Moses and Samuel can help them now
V 2-4 God has destined...
V 5-9 God is continuing to say what He will do
Judgement is coming to the land
Judgement is coming to Jerusalem
Jeremiah has the un-popular task of telling the truth
telling the people what they don’t want to hear
He is a mild mannered youth who would rather have a job of roofing
V 10 I have done nothing wrong. I try to get people to do the right thing
I keep telling them the way to peace with God
I want to see Jerusalem prosperous. I want people happy
Turn to Jeremiah 11 18.
a plot to kill him from his own hometown
Jeremiah is discouraged, and wants to give up
God speaks again V 11
Gives Jeremiah a little encouragement
V 12-14 God again talks of judgement
Jeremiah complains V 15-18
Complains about his circumstances
complains about his job
complains about the hate people have for him
calls God a liar V 18

Repent

That will be enough sass out of you
V 19 repent and I will take you back
Repent and I will give your Job back
If you start acting christian like
Speaking truth of my words
not speaking the lies of your truth (FALSE PROPHET)
They will turn back to you
If someone is to come to the truth there has to be an uncompromising source
there has to be someone willing to tell the truth
there has to be someone who knows the truth
Know what God’s word actually says not what tradition says
say the truth not just what we think they want to hear
We must be ready to give an answer to the hope that is in us
V 20
I will protect you
I will put a Batman suit on you
you will still be a insecure youth
but you can take courage in Me
say what needs to be said. do and go where I send you
V 21 as long as we are doing the the job God wants we will protect from harm
until our mission is complete. then we are called home
Last week we are called to repent and return to our first love
this week we and Jeremiah is repent and stop sassin God
and be a source of truth to a deceived world on their way to destruction
