Have you ever played the game connect four? Well our section is like that. It is connecting the dots between chapters 1:18 and 5:6-8:39.
Connect the dots, connecting one thought to another. One passage to another. This section we are starting in this morning is a parenthesis statement.
Parenthesis (N)a word, clause, or sentence inserted as an explanation or afterthought into a passage that is grammatically complete without it, in writing usually marked off by curved brackets, dashes, or commas.
This is a link, a bridge showing the blessedness from justification by faith. This being the basis of the believer’s assurance of salvation.
The unsaved person is “at enmity” with God according to (Rom5:10, 8:7).
Rom5:10 “10 For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.”
Rom8:7 “7 because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so,”
The unsaved person has no peace (Is48:22)
Isa48:22 “22 “There is no peace for the wicked,” says the Lord.”
The unsaved person is condemned, God declares as sinners (Rom6:23; Rom3:23; Isa59:2)
Just reference, paraphrase the above scriptures
But God through Justification declares us righteous, a declaration of peace made possible through Christ’s death on the cross
Connect the dots between condemnation and justification, oh what a blessing it is (Rom5:1-3)
(transition) now that is pretty depressing, but true, but let me give a glimmer of hope (Ps85:10, not on your outline, so note it down), with a heaping of it to come.
10 Lovingkindness and truth have met together; Righteousness and peace have kissed each other.
So, here we go for this morning:

1 Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom also we have obtained our introduction by faith into this grace in which we stand; and we exult in hope of the glory of God.
3 And not only this, but we also exult in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance;
What observations do you make of the passage?
How is one justified (v.1)?
How is one to have peace with God (v.1)?
What are the results (v.2-3)?
Oh, hold on, how does (v.1) start? - - - - THEREFORE, so what should be do when we see a therefore?
I think so we can get a better picture of this parenthetical statement, we need to back up so we can understand the reason for the therefore.
Understanding the therefore (v.1) (Rom4:23-25)
23 Now not for his sake only was it written that it was credited to him, 24 but for our sake also, to whom it will be credited, as those who believe in Him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead,
25 He who was delivered over because of our transgressions, and was raised because of our justification.
Abraham, did not waiver in his faith (4:20) He believed God ant it was accounted to him as righteousness (4:3).
What Abraham did was not for his sake alone, was it according to (4:23), was it?
(Transition) OK, hopefully that helps us some to get a better understanding because of the context that leads us to our justification.

Our Justification
Justification is personal, and the results are personal.
1 Right with God Now that we have been put right with God through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Made right, put right, am right with God. And have peace with God, through faith.
This is personal peace with God, through faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, for there is no other way (Jn14:6). This is peace that is more than world peace, it is eternal peace. It is peace that transcends all understanding or comprehension (see Php4:7)
The state we were in, separated (Isa59:1-2) the state we are in (Rom5:1; Eph2:1-7; turn to Tit3:3-7)
ASK EVERYONE TO TURN TO TIT3:3-7, while I read, emphasis Eph2:1-7 passage.
Eph2:1-7 “1 And you were dead in your trespasses and sins, 2 in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience. 3 Among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest. 4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), 6 and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 so that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.”
More on why, How He did it, why He did it?
Tit3:3-7 “3 For we also once were foolish ourselves, disobedient, deceived, enslaved to various lusts and pleasures, spending our life in malice and envy, hateful, hating one another. 4 But when the kindness of God our Savior and His love for mankind appeared, 5 He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit, 6 whom He poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, 7 so that being justified by His grace we would be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.”
According to (Tit3:7) how were we justified and what were the results?
It is only in Christ Jesus that judgment is averted (Rom6:23) and guilt is removed, meaning no longer condemned (Jn3:36)
36 He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.”
We have peace with God (now in right standing) and the peace of God (Php4:7) that is beyond all comprehension and understanding.
Personal peace with God is not an effort we make, it is an effect, not a reward but a gift, in nothing we do, but in everything Christ did for us.
From condemn to being at peace
For there is on condemnation (Rom8:1)
We pass from death to life (Jn5:24)
For Christ is our peace (Eph2:14)
He is our Prince of Peace (Isa9:6)
(Transition) - all that just from one verse, verse one, and I told you there was a heap of hope to come.

Access granted!
2 He has brought us by faith into this experience of God’s grace, in which we now live. And so we boast of the hope we have of sharing God’s glory!
Jews denied access by veil; Gentiles by a wall, but you access granted by faith (Lk23:45; Eph2:14)
The veil was turn from top to bottom, from heaven to earth when Jesus died, that separation taken out of the way
14 For He Himself is our peace, who made both groups into one and broke down the barrier of the dividing wall,
How did the two groups become one (Eph2:14)?
The wall that separated the Jews and the Gentiles, that would lead to the death of a Gentile if crossed the wall, was gone, both groups, Jews/Gentiles made into one by Jesus and through Jesus and Jesus alone!
Jews and Gentiles have access (Eph2:18; Heb10:19-25)
18 for through Him we both have our access in one Spirit to the Father.
While the Hebrew passage noted above it written to Jewish Christians, there is much we can learn from it. The confidence they should have, should be standing on, is the same we should have. when you get a chance read the passage but let me highlight from it for now.
Heb10:19-25 “19 Therefore, brethren, since we have confidence to enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus, 20 by a new and living way which He inaugurated for us through the veil, that is, His flesh, 21 and since we have a great priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful; 24 and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, 25 not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near.”
Access to the inexhaustible riches of His grace (Eph1:7, 2:4, 3:8)
eph1:7 “7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace”
8 When it came to presenting the Message to people who had no background in God’s way, I was the least qualified of any of the available Christians. God saw to it that I was equipped, but you can be sure that it had nothing to do with my natural abilities. And so here I am, preaching and writing about things that are way over my head, the inexhaustible riches and generosity of Christ.
Access to come boldly (Heb4:14-16)
14 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 15 For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin.
16 Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
What are we to hold fast to according to (v.14)?
Why are we able to hold fast (v.15)?
What are we then able to, have access to do (v.16)?
Access to stand in your faith (1Cor15:1-3; Eph6:13)
Gospel delivered, gospel received, gospel in which you stand.
Gospel which is of first importance!
Gospel emphasized that Christ died for our sins!
So, stand in your faith, regardless of circumstances in the physical world or the spiritual battles, stand!
Access to walk in victory (1Cor15:56-58)
Victory over death, victory over sin
Victory through our Lord Jesus Christ
Oh, i have to give you one verse of this at least
58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your toil is not in vain in the Lord.
(Transition) Access that brings us to extol, to boast, to share in the hope we have because of our justification!
Peace with God (v.1) takes care of our past
Access to God (v.2) takes care of our present
Hope of the glory (v.2) looks to the future

Our glorious hope (Rom5:2;1Tim1:1; Col1:25-28)
Jesus Christ is our hope according to 1Tim1:1; but now turn with me briefly to Col1:25-28. We are not going to make it beyond verse two today, it was a nice thought with good intentions to get through (v.3) but it is not going to happen.
Col1:25-28 “25 Of this church I was made a minister according to the stewardship from God bestowed on me for your benefit, so that I might fully carry out the preaching of the word of God, 26 that is, the mystery which has been hidden from the past ages and generations, but has now been manifested to His saints, 27 to whom God willed to make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. 28 We proclaim Him, admonishing every man and teaching every man with all wisdom, so that we may present every man complete in Christ.”
Our glorious hope, our living hope (1Pt1:3-12)
Now turn to 1Pt1:3-12, let’s just read it, I will very briefly make a few comments on it, then we will pray.
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you,
5 who are protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. 6 In this you greatly rejoice, even though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been distressed by various trials,
7 so that the proof of your faith, being more precious than gold which is perishable, even though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ; 8 and though you have not seen Him, you love Him, and though you do not see Him now, but believe in Him, you greatly rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory,
9 obtaining as the outcome of your faith the salvation of your souls. 10 As to this salvation, the prophets who prophesied of the grace that would come to you made careful searches and inquiries,
11 seeking to know what person or time the Spirit of Christ within them was indicating as He predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories to follow. 12 It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves, but you, in these things which now have been announced to you through those who preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven—things into which angels long to look.

Our Living hope gives us an inheritances that is imperishable (v.4)
A living hope that reminds us that salvation comes through faith (v.5)
A living hope that we can hold onto even in times of distress (v.6)
A living hope that is evident, seen, and can be proved (v.7)
A living hope, a living faith that the prophets spoke of is here! (vv.10-12)
