Introduction

Torah Portion
This Torah Portion goes from Deuteronomy 11:26-16:17
In our previous Torah portion we talked about consequences- Because; the heel - representing the walk; the difference between keeping and doing
and the significance of numbers 2, 40 and the covenants of God - tablets
We discussed the meaning behind the name Yaakov and how God changed his name to Israel
We talked about the issues of rebellion
Who is rebellious = serpents and scorpions
The importance of a test from God
How Messiah is the Law of Gods
The love of God and the Fear of the Lord
And more importantly about testing = 40
In today’s Torah portion we will expand on the reason for testing
We will define testing in a broader light
Deuteronomy 11:26 NKJV
“Behold, I set before you today a blessing and a curse:
Re’eh
Behold
ראה rʾh see; understand; spy, reveal, look at, examine, inspect; show
ראה rʾh /reche/ see; understand; spy, reveal, look at, examine, inspect; show
These blessings and curses are to be recited in mount Gerizim and mount Ebal respectively later (v-29)
The idea of behold is that Moses is speaking to each individual to see (See = individual) and the world is both righteous and wicked
So far Moses has focused on revere the Lord, but now he is focusing on spelling out some commandments
The exhortation is that the Israelites choose what the Lord gave them in Exo 20. As He identified Himself as their God- almighty
Because of that He has put goodness before them if they obey
Same for us
When He says “blessings and curses” it is also a reminder that in this fallen world both exist. It is only after Messiah returns we we will only have blessings
We become what we behold: If we behold evil we will become evil, if good - then good. Only God is good
2 Corinthians 3:18 NKJV
But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.
Deuteronomy 11:27–28 NKJV
the blessing, if you obey the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you today; and the curse, if you do not obey the commandments of the Lord your God, but turn aside from the way which I command you today, to go after other gods which you have not known.
There is a decision we need to make
Both choices have consequences
This choice is not arbitrary (or relative), not up to you. The choice is to obey or not the commandments
The blessing does not come w/o obedience
The cursing will come w/o obedience
A blessing is addition of the good that God has given us
A curse means a diminishing of that good
The word KELALAL (curse) the word KALLAK (light)
Blessings means a gift- the increase of becoming more light like Yeshua
How do I behold the Lord?
First let us consider Deut 11:28 again. How do we turn away?
Deuteronomy 11:28 NKJV
and the curse, if you do not obey the commandments of the Lord your God, but turn aside from the way which I command you today, to go after other gods which you have not known.
If we depart (turn aside from) the way which I command you today after other gods
Deuteronomy 12:1–4 NKJV
“These are the statutes and judgments which you shall be careful to observe in the land which the Lord God of your fathers is giving you to possess, all the days that you live on the earth. You shall utterly destroy all the places where the nations which you shall dispossess served their gods, on the high mountains and on the hills and under every green tree. And you shall destroy their altars, break their sacred pillars, and burn their wooden images with fire; you shall cut down the carved images of their gods and destroy their names from that place. You shall not worship the Lord your God with such things.
Observe the Law = Jesus
All the days = Everyday
Uterly destroy the places where the nations served other gods
Not to mix other gods with God
Break the pillars= break any root
You shall not worship your God as such
We are not to depart from His way
What has happened during the last 2000 years?
The law of God was removed
The Feasts of God also prohibited
The culture of Israel hated
The temples used for Greek Idol worship were turned into a temple to worship God/ Yeshua
The selection of Israel as His people replaced for the election of the Gentiles
We have added and removed things from the truth of God - or not teach the truth at all
The divinity of the Torah is denied by idol worship
If you deviate slightly, you will at the end serve other gods
By our choice we curse ourselves
Deception is the vehicle to curse
Deuteronomy 11:16 NKJV
Take heed to yourselves, lest your heart be deceived, and you turn aside and serve other gods and worship them,
The sages explain that “anyone guilty of idolatry is as if he had abandoned all of God’s commandments. If anyone acknowledges that there is any substance to it is considered as having denied all aspects of the Torah
James 2:10 NKJV
For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all.
How do we behold ( rʾh see; understand; spy, reveal, look at, examine, inspect; show) the Lord?
Deuteronomy 12:5 NKJV
“But you shall seek the place where the Lord your God chooses, out of all your tribes, to put His name for His dwelling place; and there you shall go.
Deuteronomy 12:11 NKJV
then there will be the place where the Lord your God chooses to make His name abide. There you shall bring all that I command you: your burnt offerings, your sacrifices, your tithes, the heave offerings of your hand, and all your choice offerings which you vow to the Lord.
Deuteronomy 12:23–25 NKJV
Only be sure that you do not eat the blood, for the blood is the life; you may not eat the life with the meat. You shall not eat it; you shall pour it on the earth like water. You shall not eat it, that it may go well with you and your children after you, when you do what is right in the sight of the Lord.
Deuteronomy 12:28 NKJV
Observe and obey all these words which I command you, that it may go well with you and your children after you forever, when you do what is good and right in the sight of the Lord your God.
You must listen, keep - understand and hear all the words which I command you- this implies studying the law to keep it within you that it should not be forgotten. Just as He said:
Proverbs 22:18 NKJV
For it is a pleasant thing if you keep them within you; Let them all be fixed upon your lips,
The rabbis would say: but the one who is not amongst who study cannot be amongst those who act correctly
Deuteronomy 4:6 NKJV
Therefore be careful to observe them; for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the peoples who will hear all these statutes, and say, ‘Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.’
To observe and hear means to observe and hear the law regarding the blood which is to be poured on the altar
One of the major issues is we can very easily be deceived if we do not know the law.
Jesus said when asked about the end times:
Matthew 24:4 NKJV
And Jesus answered and said to them: “Take heed that no one deceives you.
Peter also warned:
2 Peter 3:1–3 NKJV
Beloved, I now write to you this second epistle (in both of which I stir up your pure minds by way of reminder), that you may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us, the apostles of the Lord and Savior, knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts,
John also warned
1 John 2:18–26 NKJV
Little children, it is the last hour; and as you have heard that the Antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come, by which we know that it is the last hour. They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us; but they went out that they might be made manifest, that none of them were of us. But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things. I have not written to you because you do not know the truth, but because you know it, and that no lie is of the truth. Who is a liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist who denies the Father and the Son. Whoever denies the Son does not have the Father either; he who acknowledges the Son has the Father also. Therefore let that abide in you which you heard from the beginning. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, you also will abide in the Son and in the Father. And this is the promise that He has promised us—eternal life. These things I have written to you concerning those who try to deceive you.
Paul also warned:
1 Timothy 1:1–11 NKJV
Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ, by the commandment of God our Savior and the Lord Jesus Christ, our hope, To Timothy, a true son in the faith: Grace, mercy, and peace from God our Father and Jesus Christ our Lord. As I urged you when I went into Macedonia—remain in Ephesus that you may charge some that they teach no other doctrine, nor give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which cause disputes rather than godly edification which is in faith. Now the purpose of the commandment is love from a pure heart, from a good conscience, and from sincere faith, from which some, having strayed, have turned aside to idle talk, desiring to be teachers of the law, understanding neither what they say nor the things which they affirm. But we know that the law is good if one uses it lawfully, knowing this: that the law is not made for a righteous person, but for the lawless and insubordinate, for the ungodly and for sinners, for the unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, for fornicators, for sodomites, for kidnappers, for liars, for perjurers, and if there is any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine, according to the glorious gospel of the blessed God which was committed to my trust.
Therefore, it is very important for us to know the truth of the law - the light that brings the darkness in us for our repentance, so that no one has the ability to deceive us.
This warning is not new- don’t think it is new because it is in the new testament
This warning and the tools to prepare for this attack were given to us in the Torah about 3500 years ago and even after the resurrection and ascension of Messiah.
Consider the following warning in the Torah
Deuteronomy 12:29–32 NKJV
“When the Lord your God cuts off from before you the nations which you go to dispossess, and you displace them and dwell in their land, take heed to yourself that you are not ensnared to follow them, after they are destroyed from before you, and that you do not inquire after their gods, saying, ‘How did these nations serve their gods? I also will do likewise.’ You shall not worship the Lord your God in that way; for every abomination to the Lord which He hates they have done to their gods; for they burn even their sons and daughters in the fire to their gods. “Whatever I command you, be careful to observe it; you shall not add to it nor take away from it.
Isaiah 66:18–21 NKJV
“For I know their works and their thoughts. It shall be that I will gather all nations and tongues; and they shall come and see My glory. I will set a sign among them; and those among them who escape I will send to the nations: to Tarshish and Pul and Lud, who draw the bow, and Tubal and Javan, to the coastlands afar off who have not heard My fame nor seen My glory. And they shall declare My glory among the Gentiles. Then they shall bring all your brethren for an offering to the Lord out of all nations, on horses and in chariots and in litters, on mules and on camels, to My holy mountain Jerusalem,” says the Lord, “as the children of Israel bring an offering in a clean vessel into the house of the Lord. And I will also take some of them for priests and Levites,” says the Lord.
Isaiah 2:1–3 NKJV
The word that Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem. Now it shall come to pass in the latter days That the mountain of the Lord’s house Shall be established on the top of the mountains, And shall be exalted above the hills; And all nations shall flow to it. Many people shall come and say, “Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, To the house of the God of Jacob; He will teach us His ways, And we shall walk in His paths.” For out of Zion shall go forth the law, And the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.
In the latter days - end times
Mountain - Sinai, Jerusalem, Mount of Olives
Nations will come - not to influence Israel and worship other gods, but to learn at the House of Jacob
Yeshua will teach His ways, paths so that we walk, how?
By the Law going from Zion (Israel) and the word from Jerusalem
Acts 1:1–3 NKJV
The former account I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach, until the day in which He was taken up, after He through the Holy Spirit had given commandments to the apostles whom He had chosen, to whom He also presented Himself alive after His suffering by many infallible proofs, being seen by them during forty days and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God.
Jesus did not only teach and He also did what He taught
He gave the apostles commandments
He gave proofs that the commandments can become a reality
He put them through a test during 40 days -regarding the kingdom of God
Acts 1:4–8 NKJV
And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from Me; for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.” Therefore, when they had come together, they asked Him, saying, “Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” And He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority. But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
The power of the Holy Spirit given to be witnesses - to do and to teach
Where? Jerusalem, Judaea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth
He is not concerned about the kingdom yet
Nor did He say is not going to happen
In fact, the inference is that it is going to happen but you do not need to know when - it is up to the father
Matthew 28:19–20 NKJV
Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.
To make disciples - no converts
Baptizing after they are discipled
Teaching them to observe all that He commanded
Discipleship with the Law of God
To observe is the word Tereo in Greek - keep and obey
What are the disciples going to obey - Law
Lo- is our Torah portion them - Behold - see, pay attention
The manifestation of my power
Yeshua summarized the law in two commandments
The two greatest commandments are a summary of the Ten Commandments given at Sinai
The 10 commandments are a summary of the 614 Torah commandments
There are at least 17 laws of the 614 laws given at mount Sinai regarding idolatry and other gods. From 42 to 49
42 Not to prophesize in the name of idolatry (Deut 13:14)
43 Not to listen to a false prophet (Deut 13:4)
44 Not to prophesize falsely in the name of God (Deut 18:20)
45 Not to be afraid of killing the false prophet (Deut 18:22)
46 Not to swear in the name of an idol ( Exo 23:13)
47 Not to perform ov (medium) (Lev 19:31)
48 Not to perform yidoni (magical seer) (Lev 19:31)
49 Not to pass your children through the fire to Molech (Lev 18:21)
Let us explore what our Torah portion says about these:
Deuteronomy 13:1–2 NKJV
“If there arises among you a prophet or a dreamer of dreams, and he gives you a sign or a wonder, and the sign or the wonder comes to pass, of which he spoke to you, saying, ‘Let us go after other gods’—which you have not known—‘and let us serve them,’
Just like in the case of Gideon (Judges 6:17) who spoke to the angel, “if now I found grace in your sight, then show me a sign” and it further says, (Judges 6:39) “Let me prove, I pray, but this time with the fleece” let it be dry only upon the fleece, and upon all the ground let there be dew.”
Do not cling on to him (although the sign or the wonder come to pass), but ask, why then does God give him the power to perform a sign?
The scripture replies, (v4) for the Lord your God tests you, to know whether you really love the Lord your God (or the wonder).
Leviticus 19:31 NKJV
‘Give no regard to mediums and familiar spirits; do not seek after them, to be defiled by them: I am the Lord your God.
Deuteronomy 13:3–4 NKJV
you shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams, for the Lord your God is testing you to know whether you love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul. You shall walk after the Lord your God and fear Him, and keep His commandments and obey His voice; you shall serve Him and hold fast to Him.
Test
God is testing you
/nisa/ = נסה
סה (nsh), vb. venture; put someone to the test; give experience, train; conduct a test, make an attempt. Greek equiv. fr. LXX: πειράζω (16), ἐκπειράζω (4), πειράω (1). LTW נָסָה (Testing).
Joint venture
Exodus 20:20 NKJV
And Moses said to the people, “Do not fear; for God has come to test you, and that His fear may be before you, so that you may not sin.”
We are called not to fear other things but God - to fear is to be in awe / to honour
Are we passing the test?
Deuteronomy 13:4 NKJV
You shall walk after the Lord your God and fear Him, and keep His commandments and obey His voice; you shall serve Him and hold fast to Him.
Can we walk after the Lord (Follow Him) and not keep His commandments (The Torah/ the Law of Moses)?
Can I even cling on to Him and not keep the commandments?
And you shall FEAR HIM
You shall refrain from asking why this is so, and serve Him in deed.
To witness is to walk in the commandments and teach the commandments
Are we passing the test?
1 Corinthians 9:14 NKJV
Even so the Lord has commanded that those who preach the gospel should live from the gospel.
Are we passing the test?
Back to our Torah portion
I mentioned before that the vehicle to take us away from the Lord is deception.
The deception is rampant in the church as the Lord foretold Isa (66:18-21)
The Lord also anticipated this in Deuteronomy as He foretold this and warned us
Deuteronomy 13:5 NKJV
But that prophet or that dreamer of dreams shall be put to death, because he has spoken in order to turn you away from the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt and redeemed you from the house of bondage, to entice you from the way in which the Lord your God commanded you to walk. So you shall put away the evil from your midst.
The same prophet who makes things to come to pass is the one who can turn you away from God
The same prophet seeks to entice you from the way the Lord has commanded you to walk
We must put him away
Entice
נדח
/nadah/ drive away; scatter from one another; push away, oust; entice; tempt, seduce
Entice you from the way in which the Lord your God commanded you to walk
The way= Jesus= Law
John 14:6 NKJV
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
Psalm 119:1 NKJV
Blessed are the undefiled in the way, Who walk in the law of the Lord!
2 Thessalonians 2:1–4 NKJV
Now, brethren, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, we ask you, not to be soon shaken in mind or troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as if from us, as though the day of Christ had come. Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.
Deception has to do with no acknowledging the second coming of our Lord as explained in His feasts, in the Menorah
The falling away (enticing) needs to happen
So that the antichrist is revealed
2 Thessalonians 2:5–12 NKJV
Do you not remember that when I was still with you I told you these things? And now you know what is restraining, that he may be revealed in his own time. For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way. And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming. The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
Historically, the restrainer has been identified as the Holy Spirit
There are other explanations from the rabbinical perspective which we are not going to work on detail here
The end result of the function of who this is seems to be the same
This restraining being is present until “He is taken out of the way.”
We can look at this passage as: the Holy Spirit is being taken out of the way
How do you take the Holy Spirit out of the way?
Either the Lord calls His Spirit back or we deny Him
He will call His Holy Spirit to give the world over to their own delusion
Another way you can take the Holy Spirit out : You allow other spirits which seem Familiar to take over
1 Timothy 4:1–11 NKJV
Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron, forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be refused if it is received with thanksgiving; for it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer. If you instruct the brethren in these things, you will be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished in the words of faith and of the good doctrine which you have carefully followed. But reject profane and old wives’ fables, and exercise yourself toward godliness. For bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come. This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance. For to this end we both labor and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Savior of all men, especially of those who believe. These things command and teach.
Galatians 3:1 NKJV
O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you that you should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed among you as crucified?
Our Torah Portion:
Deuteronomy 13:6–8 NKJV
“If your brother, the son of your mother, your son or your daughter, the wife of your bosom, or your friend who is as your own soul, secretly entices you, saying, ‘Let us go and serve other gods,’ which you have not known, neither you nor your fathers, of the gods of the people which are all around you, near to you or far off from you, from one end of the earth to the other end of the earth, you shall not consent to him or listen to him, nor shall your eye pity him, nor shall you spare him or conceal him;
Does this remind you of Jacob and Esau?
It refers to those who are Dear to us
This means not to spare no even your brother for the Lord
Leviticus 19:29 NKJV
‘Do not prostitute your daughter, to cause her to be a harlot, lest the land fall into harlotry, and the land become full of wickedness.
Leviticus 19:31 NKJV
‘Give no regard to mediums and familiar spirits; do not seek after them, to be defiled by them: I am the Lord your God.
Deuteronomy 18:10 NKJV
There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, or one who practices witchcraft, or a soothsayer, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer,
The message has been corrupt and men allowed to do it right in our churches:
Deuteronomy 13:13 NKJV
‘Corrupt men have gone out from among you and enticed the inhabitants of their city, saying, “Let us go and serve other gods” ’—which you have not known—
This does not mean the city is condemned as the following verses seem to suggest, but that the city will be destroyed because of the men who are leading the inhabitants astray
1 John 2:18–19 NKJV
Little children, it is the last hour; and as you have heard that the Antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come, by which we know that it is the last hour. They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us; but they went out that they might be made manifest, that none of them were of us.
Proverbs 28:9 NKJV
One who turns away his ear from hearing the law, Even his prayer is an abomination.
The doctrine we have heard has become so familiar that we do not see the deception.
Deception is very deceiving
We also passed it down to our children
What has happened during the last 2000 years?
The law of God was removed
The Feasts of God also prohibited
The culture of Israel hated
The temples used for Greek Idol worship were turned into a temple to worship God/ Yeshua
The selection of Israel as His people replaced for the election of the Gentiles
We have added and removed things from the truth of God - or not teach the truth at all
The divinity of the Torah is denied by idol worship
If you deviate slightly, you will at the end serve other gods
By our choice we curse ourselves
Deception is the vehicle to curse
How are we doing?
Are we passing the test?
What do we do?
Back to our Torah Portion
Deuteronomy 13:8 NKJV
you shall not consent to him or listen to him, nor shall your eye pity him, nor shall you spare him or conceal him;
Remember what our Torah Portion is called:
Behold
ראה rʾh see; understand; spy, reveal, look at, examine, inspect; show
1. First and foremost, we must not consent
consent
אבה
אָבָה / S14, 15 TWOT3 GK14, 20 vb. be willing, consent /abah /
2. We expose
Deuteronomy 13:8 NKJV
you shall not consent to him or listen to him, nor shall your eye pity him, nor shall you spare him or conceal him;
Ephesians 5:5–11 NKJV
For this you know, that no fornicator, unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. Therefore do not be partakers with them. For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), finding out what is acceptable to the Lord. And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them.
3. We need to cut ties
Deuteronomy 13:9–10 NKJV
but you shall surely kill him; your hand shall be first against him to put him to death, and afterward the hand of all the people. And you shall stone him with stones until he dies, because he sought to entice you away from the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.
4. We need to HEAR and FEAR the Lord
Deuteronomy 13:11 NKJV
So all Israel shall hear and fear, and not again do such wickedness as this among you.
5. We need to keep the Sabbath and hear good counsel
Back to
Leviticus 19:30–32 NKJV
‘You shall keep My Sabbaths and reverence My sanctuary: I am the Lord. ‘Give no regard to mediums and familiar spirits; do not seek after them, to be defiled by them: I am the Lord your God. ‘You shall rise before the gray headed and honor the presence of an old man, and fear your God: I am the Lord.
6. We need to ask questions
Deuteronomy 13:14 NKJV
then you shall inquire, search out, and ask diligently. And if it is indeed true and certain that such an abomination was committed among you,
The law in the Hebrew thought is not exercised unless the law of investigating has happened 7 times
Deuteronomy 19:18 NKJV
And the judges shall make careful inquiry, and indeed, if the witness is a false witness, who has testified falsely against his brother,
Deuteronomy 17:18–19 NKJV
“Also it shall be, when he sits on the throne of his kingdom, that he shall write for himself a copy of this law in a book, from the one before the priests, the Levites. And it shall be with him, and he shall read it all the days of his life, that he may learn to fear the Lord his God and be careful to observe all the words of this law and these statutes,
7. We need to repent to receive His mercy
Deuteronomy 13:17 NKJV
So none of the accursed things shall remain in your hand, that the Lord may turn from the fierceness of His anger and show you mercy, have compassion on you and multiply you, just as He swore to your fathers,
8. We need to keep His commandments
Deuteronomy 13:18 NKJV
because you have listened to the voice of the Lord your God, to keep all His commandments which I command you today, to do what is right in the eyes of the Lord your God.
9- We need, as children, not to cut ourselves from is doing because it is good
Deuteronomy 14:1 NKJV
“You are the children of the Lord your God; you shall not cut yourselves nor shave the front of your head for the dead.
Now that you know that you are children of God, and that the Lord loves you more than a father loves his only son, do not cut yourselves over anything that God does, for whatever the Lord does is for the good.
If you do not understand God, then act like small children who do not understand what their father does
but nevertheless rely upon him, because you are not like the Canaanites or Amorites, or Moabites, therefore you shall not imitate their practice
Shaving your head has to do with leaving the covering
10. Keep Holy
Deuteronomy 14:2 NKJV
For you are a holy people to the Lord your God, and the Lord has chosen you to be a people for Himself, a special treasure above all the peoples who are on the face of the earth.
You are holy- your actual holiness comes to you from our earthly fathers (Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob) as children of promise
in additions our Heavenly Father has chosen you (Israel) so that you are for two reasons bound to keep away from these pagan customs:
Because (1) He set us apart (2) And He will sanctify us
Shabbat Shalom
