Forasmuch as many have taken in hand to set forth in order a declaration of those things which are most surely believed among us, Even as they delivered them unto us, which from the beginning were eyewitnesses, and ministers of the word;
Explain: Luke begins his gospel by explaining that he is not doing something new. He was not an eyewitness himself, but a Gentile physician who became a companion of Paul, but he is passing on the work of the eyewitnesses, servants of the Word.
