Introduction:
1 Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name!
2 Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits,
Pray.
Westminster Catechism begins with the most fundamental question that we could ask.
What is the chief and highest end of man?
Man’s chief and highest end is to glorify God, and fully to enjoy him forever.
To put it simply, you and I were created to worship God and we have good reason to do so. But sometimes we need to be reminded of this purpose and we need some reasons that remind us of why God is worthy of our worship. We can get in a spiritual depression of sorts that keeps us from seeing clearly, so the Bible gives us some good reasons to worship God in this Psalm.
This is one of the Davidic Psalms that was written at some point during his lifetime. We don’t know at what point David wrote the psalm, but it is a wonderful call to praise. Remember that even though David was a king, he was also a prophet in writing these inspired songs of worship for Israel.
This psalm can be broken down into three main sections that call us to praise the Lord.
A Call to Worship (vv.1-2)
A Reason to Worship (vv.4-14)
A Response to Worship (vv.15-22)

This is a personal call to worship. David says, “Bless the Lord, O MY soul.”
His worship is a total worship of body and soul. - all that is within me
We tend to forget the blessings of the Lord. David reminds himself not to forget the benefits of the Lord.
