Praise God for His Mercy and Grace
We have seen the sovereign mercy of God
Instead of wrath, we receive peace with God in Christ
We have seen the sovereign grace of God
who has chosen us
who has ordained that we hear His gospel
who has given us the gift of faith to believe and call upon the name of Christ
who preserves us in Christ so that we remain faithful in the midst of the wickedness and sin around us
We have seen the faithfulness of God to orchestrate all of redemptive History to fulfill His promises
This is the God whom we worship and whom we adore - as we partake of the Lord’s Table let us not boast in anything in ourselves, but in the goodness, the mercy, the graciousness, the faithfulness, the sufficiency, the perfection, the beauty, the holiness, and the love of Christ Jesus who died for us.
Here at Heritage we practice an open and closed communion
Open to all who have believed upon the name of Jesus Christ and have called upon Him as Lord
Closed to those who have not yet followed Christ as Lord and received His salvation by faith - repent and believe
Closed to those who are openly dishonoring Christ and His sacrifice by living in persistent and rebellious sin against Him - repent and believe
In the Gospel of Luke chapter 22 we read of Jesus’ last celebration of the Passover, the feast celebrating God’s salvation of Israel from slavery in Egypt.
Luke 22:14–18 ESV
14 And when the hour came, he reclined at table, and the apostles with him. 15 And he said to them, “I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer. 16 For I tell you I will not eat it until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.” 17 And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he said, “Take this, and divide it among yourselves. 18 For I tell you that from now on I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.”
And after saying this, Jesus our Lord instituted a new feast, a new time of remembrance and celebration of the salvation of our God, this time from the slavery to sin and death itself.
Luke 22:19–20 NASB95
19 And when He had taken some bread and given thanks, He broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” 20 And in the same way He took the cup after they had eaten, saying, “This cup which is poured out for you is the new covenant in My blood.
Pastor Shaan, will you pray for the bread and cup.
Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, let us partake of the bread together…and then the cup
As Paul has said in 1 Corinthians 11:26
1 Corinthians 11:26 NASB95
26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes.
Let us sing now, celebrating the mercy and grace of God toward us in Jesus Christ
We, elders, have had the past 8 weeks to evaluate Dave Knowles as a candidate for our position of Pastor for Preaching and we all unanimously recommend him for this position, along with the deacons. But we want to hear from you and answer your questions before moving forward with the decision to hire him.
Open with Prayer - Ben
Please, in an orderly fashion, raise your hand and I will acknowledge you so that you can ask your question, give a comment, or share your concerns.
Close in Prayer - Terry?
