James 1:22–25 (ESV)
22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. 24 For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. 25 But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing.
On Sunday August 28, I preached a message titled, “Our Mission”. During that sermon I gave a charge to live life on mission, and in gospel of John I showed you that Jesus calls us on mission, and gives us the Holy Spirit to help us fulfill it. After preaching the message, I began to really think about the state of the church, and our need for action and I want to challenge you to do a few things as we close out the year.
I want you to worship Jesus Christ with all you have. I want you to put him first in everything you do. This includes putting him first with your time, money, and service.
I want you to be commited to grow in your relationship with Christ. This includes committing yourself to actively being at church when possible. My wife, Megan will soon be getting back into bible study with the laddies, and my hope is to get something started with the men at-least once a month if we can get some men on board. I hope you are personally reading the bible for yourself, if not there are many good plans I can recommend to you. As a church we have a catechism, and focus of the month on our bulletin and website to help you grow in your walk with Christ.
I want you to share the gospel with someone every week as well as invite people every week to church. Its so easy to share Christ with someone, and if you need help doing so come talk to me, and I can give you some resources to help you do so. I have provided some cards in the sanctuary to invite people to the church, take some and give them to people you know that don’t have a church home. Also I know many of you have social media, share the sermons, and others posts on there as much as possible, so we can connect others to the church.
Encourage someone! I want you to encourage someone at the church, and outside the church every single week! Lets never be a place where discouragement reigns.
Finally, Pray! Church family every church goes through seasons of highs, and lows. Right now we are not where we want to be financially or spiritually. Let us go before the King of Kings asking he can do big things through us, and for his glory!
