Read: Romans 9:1-5 “I speak the truth in Christ—I am not lying, my conscience confirms it through the Holy Spirit—I have great sorrow and unceasing anguish in my heart. For I could wish that I myself were cursed and cut off from Christ for the sake of my people, those of my own race, the people of Israel. Theirs is the adoption to sonship; theirs the divine glory, the covenants, the receiving of the law, the temple worship and the promises. Theirs are the patriarchs, and from them is traced the human ancestry of the Messiah, who is God over all, forever praised! Amen.”
Have you ever lost something? (Feeling of losing something important. Passport story.)
What is our vision at CHY?
Reaching the lost. Discipling the found.
I think as a ministry one of the most important things we could carry, is a burden for the lost.
I think far too often we don’t have a burden, because we don’t know how to have a burden. Two ways we get a burden.
1.) See people as God sees them.
2.) Find something in common.
One and only point: When we have a burden for the lost, the Gospel becomes real in our life.
What stops us from sharing?
1.) Being scared of rejection.
-Let’s all be honest no one likes being rejected.
-Student illustration of inviting.
2.) I don’t know enough.
-Luke 12:12 “for the Holy Spirit will teach you at that time what you should say.”
-Talk about street evangelism.
3.) I haven’t got a picture of eternity.
-Talk about the reality of Heaven and Hell.
-Heaven is so so much better, and when we see that, we understand this is about people. The currency of Heaven is people.
So now what?
1.) Pray for the lost.
-I want you to pray for 3 people in your life right now who don’t know Jesus. Give out sticky note.
2.) Ask God for a specific burden.
-God is giving me a burden for Columbia. Talk about that for a second.
3.) Show that you care.
-People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.
-I will continue to say this until I am blue in the face, you matter here, your friends matter here. CHY is a place to belong before you ever believe.
-What is hurting your friends right now? Do you know and do you care?
Pray us out as we release into small groups.
