Sitting
Ephesians 2:6 KJV 1900
6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:
God raised you out of the miry clay of sin and now you are in a secure place in Christ.
How do we put that into action, appropriating our position - Sitting at His feet.
Walking in the Spirit is a guided and powerful practice.
Galatians 5:16 KJV 1900
16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
Ephesians 4:1 KJV 1900
1 I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,
The first was a progression to paralysis
Our relationship to the enemy is one of standing against his wiles.
Sitting, Walking, Standing
Ephesians 6:10 KJV 1900
10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
Ephesians 6:11 KJV 1900
11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
Stand Against
Ephesians 6:12 KJV 1900
12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
Ephesians 6:13 KJV 1900
13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
When you were born again, you were born into a family of warriors.
Ephesians 6:14 KJV 1900
14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
Ephesians 6:15–18 KJV 1900
15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: 18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
Christianity sits, walks, stands in the armor
We prepare for the conflict
We are in constant conflict
We prepare
We assume the correct
The enemy attacks:
Mentally, emotionally, spiritually
Conflict is constant, we are in a battle
Stand against in verse 11
Stand against means to hold your ground
Don’t get pushed around by the enemy
The stand implies the ground that we are to stand in and protect is God’s property and we are called, for some reason, to stand and not give up ground to the enemy.
We have no hope in standing against the enemy until we learn to sit at Jesus feet and walk in the Spirit.
Before we run out the door in the morning we have to be in christ’s presence.
It seems that our biggest battles tend to be relational.
If you decide to fight against flesh and blood in warfare you cannot win.
Unfortunately many Christians will wait until they’ve been defeated mentally, emotionally, and spiritually before they decide it’s time to stand against the real enemy of our soul.
The devil deceives Christians into believing they are standing, but they aren’t standing in the power of The Lord’s might, they are standing in their own flesh’s might.
Protecting a fortified position is better than trying to take back a position that has been lost.
The devil fortifies the positions he takes in your life.
Marriage
Children
Church
all must be prayed over that we may keep these positions
1 Peter 5:8 KJV 1900
8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
Ephesians 4:26–32 KJV 1900
26 Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: 27 Neither give place to the devil. 28 Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth. 29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. 30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. 31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: 32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.
Give place means give jurisdictional ground to the enemy - you sign the rights over to him
When we stand and protect the ground God has given us, it is much easier with God’s power and protection than trying to regain ground already surrendered.
Put up fences in your life that protects the ground God has given you.
Satan will wreak havock on the ground God has given you if you give rights to him
He will gain access to the ground and authority you have as a child of God
He will belittle you
He will accuse you
He will disquiet you
He will distract you
He will guilt you
He will berate
It’s better to stand against the devil than to allow him access
Satan’s mode of operation is to keep you from your rightful place
Not just to cause you to sin, but to keep you from the safe place of God’s presence.
He wants you away from your relationship with the Lord
Through our thoughts and emotions that lead to our decisions, Satan is desiring to assault your rest and confidence in The Lord.
Psalm 16:11 KJV 1900
11 Thou wilt shew me the path of life: In thy presence is fulness of joy; At thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.
Psalm 140:13 KJV 1900
13 Surely the righteous shall give thanks unto thy name: The upright shall dwell in thy presence.
Satan wants to keep you from the joy of the presence of God
He lies
He assaults
He challenges your faith
Salvation - Saved by grace
Victory -
Strength
Provision - My God shall supply all my need
We can’t idly go through life - we are created to be engaged against the enemy
We can live in victory because The Lord has already won the battle.
The victory is already won.
Death, the grave, and sin has already
God already has given us the victory through Jesus
1 Corinthians 15:57–58 KJV 1900
57 But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.
Vs 58 can be accomplished because of verse 5
What if instead of spending our prayer time asking for victory, we spent our prayer time thanking God for the victory He’s already given.
Thank you Lord I can be steadfast because of the victory Christ gave
unmovable
always abounding in the work
knowing that the labour is not in vain in the Lord
“In the name of the Lord”
The name
none other name under heaven
Acts 4:7 KJV 1900
7 And when they had set them in the midst, they asked, By what power, or by what name, have ye done this?
Acts 4:8 KJV 1900
8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel,
Acts 4:9 KJV 1900
9 If we this day be examined of the good deed done to the impotent man, by what means he is made whole;
In the Christian life we ask the Lord to protect us from formality, and vain repetition
The King of Kings
Sovereign God
We pray with authority in the offensive
Able To Stand Against the Enemy
1. You must have an assurance of the eternal purpose of God In You
You were not saved only to save you from eternal destruction in hell
God has given you purpose
You have eternal purposes
1. Seeking and Saving
Luke 19:10 KJV 1900
10 For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.
Seeking and Saving
We should all be soul winners
Getting the Gospel to our community and surrounding areas
Matthew 28:19 KJV 1900
19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
Ephesians 3:11 KJV 1900
11 According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord:
2. Destroy the works of the devil
Joh 20:20 And when he had so said, he shewed unto them his hands and his side. Then were the disciples glad, when they saw the Lord.
Joh 20:21 Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.
1 John 3:8 (KJV 1900)
8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning.
For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
Seek and save the lost
Destroying the devils works
God allows us to be a part of His plan - isn’ that incredible
2. All affective work is guided by the Spirit.
Act 16:6 Now when they had gone throughout Phrygia and the region of Galatia, and were forbidden of the Holy Ghost to preach the word in Asia,
Act 16:7 After they were come to Mysia, they assayed to go into Bithynia: but the Spirit suffered them not.
The Holy Spirit told them not to preach
God knew it wasn’t time
Listening to the voice of God
God knows who is ready
God wants to lead us
Has the Spirit ever just compelled you to stop and share your faith?
God must initiate in order for there to be a lasting result.
When it’s time to stand against the enemy, you need the leadership of the Spirit - it’s not time to try to stand on your own
Luke 4:1 KJV 1900
1 And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness,
Are we spending enough time with the Lord to:
Hear,
know,
do
All eternal work is accomplished through God’s leading
1Co 3:13 Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is.
1Co 3:14 If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward.
God has placed Jesus to be the foundation of every structure which shall stand firm in all the tests of fire through which we are destined to pass. We must needs go on building day by day - Whatever we do or say is another stone or brick. It is for us to choose which heap of material we take it from; whether from that of the wood, hay, or stubble, or from that of the gold, silver, or precious stones.
To the church of laodecea
Rev 3:18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.
3. All lasting work is accomplished humility and reliance on God’s power alone.
When we bow before God
Understanding we need His leadership
When we rely on the principles of God’s word
we are actively showing the Lord our dependance on Him
John 15:5 KJV 1900
5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
We can do nothing without Him
Parenting without God
Leading without God
The best place we can be is in total dependance upon God
It’s when we bow before the Lord, understanding we are completely lost without His guidance is when we can become what God has intended for us to be.
4. When the aim of our life and our work is God’s glory, God intervenes on our behalf
Standing is not in our own power
Pray for His glory
Under His direction
1 Corinthians 10:31 KJV 1900
31 Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.
When any endeavor the Spirit leads us to undertake is being accomplished for God’s glory, that is an eternal and powerful work
Romans 11:36 KJV 1900
36 For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.
Everything is for God’s Glory
1 Timothy 1:17 KJV 1900
17 Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.
Every day is for God’s glory
We understand we sit at the feat of our Lord in the morning, understanding that we cannot afford a day without learning from Him
We walk in the Spirit
We stand in opposition to the devil’s advances
The flesh can never defeat the devil’s advances
We rest in the finished work of the Lord
We walk in the power He has provided
We war in the strength of the provisions He has provided
One day we will stand in the presence of our Saviour in the midst of the saints of the ages
