Whose Worship will God Hear?

John 4:22–24 The Message
You worship guessing in the dark; we Jews worship in the clear light of day. God’s way of salvation is made available through the Jews. But the time is coming—it has, in fact, come—when what you’re called will not matter and where you go to worship will not matter. “It’s who you are and the way you live that count before God. Your worship must engage your spirit in the pursuit of truth. That’s the kind of people the Father is out looking for: those who are simply and honestly themselves before him in their worship. God is sheer being itself—Spirit. Those who worship him must do it out of their very being, their spirits, their true selves, in adoration.”
As we continue our series on Deep dive in God’s anointing, we find today the story of the Samaritan woman at Jacobs well and Jesus having an encounter with her about who she is, why she is there, and whom is correct about worship. I want to share with you all today on this communion Sunday about Authentic Worship and whose worship does God hear? What does authentic worship look like, sound like, feel like? How does one pursue authentic worship in today’s world?
There is a song that came to my mind when reading and preparing. If you don’t know me by now, you will know I either relate some scriptures to sports or songs. Well today this sermon made me think of a song. How many of you remember the song Your so vain by Carly Simon. I only want to really talk about the hook in the song that says, your so vain, you probably think this song is about you. Your so vain, you probably think this song is about you don’t you don’t you. Alright, alright , alright, alright. I bring this part of the song to light because we can worship God in vain by worshiping idols or themselves. This type of worship God will not hear because you are not focused on the true Spirit of Worship.
When one dives deep in God’s anointing you cannot help but to worship God Authentically. God will hear the worship of those who have a pure heart. The word says in Psalm 51:10
Psalm 51:10 NRSV
Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a new and right spirit within me.
When we have the right spirit of God indwelling within us authentic worship will happen because our hearts are pure in the worship that we are giving.
