KEEPING YOUR SIGHTS ON GOD
KEEPING YOUR SIGHTS ON GOD
INTRODUCTION:
THE PSALMIST IN CHAPTER 73 BECAME FRUSTRATED WITH THE WICKED BECAUSE HE SEEN HOW THEY WAS PROSPERING.
THE DANGER OF THIS IS YOU CAN FIND YOURSELF BITTER AND START TO LOSE FAITH IN GOD.
WE NEED TO KEEP OUR SIGHTS ON GOD, SO THAT WHAT WE SEE DO NOT CAUSE US TO BACKSLIDE FROM GOD.
SO MY QUESTION TODAY, WHAT CAN CAUSE US TO LOSE SIGHT OF GOD?
DESPISING OTHER’S
DRIFTING IN THOUGHTS
DISTANCING YOURSELF FROM GOD.
A. DESPISING OTHERS
PSALM 73:3 “For I was envious at the foolish, When I saw the prosperity of the wicked.”
THE PROBLEM THE PSALMIST EXPERIENCE WAS HE ALLOWED WHAT HE SEEN TO AFFECT HOW HE TRUST IN GOD.
WHAT HE SEEN CAUSED HIM TO BE JUDGE MENTAL TO THE POINT ENVY ENTER HIS HEART.
HOW MANY OF US LOOK ON WHAT OTHER’S HAVE ALLOW JEALOUSY TO ENTER INTO OUR HEARTS.
WHEN THIS HAPPEN YOU STOP BELIEVING THAT GOD CAN DO IT FOR YOU.
THE PSALMIST SIGHTS WAS ON THE WICKED INSTEAD OF THE GOOD. HE BEGIN THE CHAPTER BY SAYING TRULY GOD IS GOOD TO ISRAEL, EVEN TO SUCH AS ARE OF A CLEAN HEART.
IF YOU KNOW THAT GOD IS GOOD TO THEM THAT HAVE A CLEAN HEART, WHY ARE YOU WORRIED ABOUT THE WICKED WHO’S HEARTS ARE CALLOUS.
MEANING THEY DON’T HAVE NO FEELINGS OR SYMPATHY FOR OTHER’S. THEY HEARTS ARE HARD AGAINST THE THINGS OF GOD.
ISAIAH 11:2-3 “And the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, The spirit of wisdom and understanding, The spirit of counsel and might, The spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord; And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the Lord: And he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, Neither reprove after the hearing of his ears:”
B. DRIFTING IN THOUGHTS
PSALM 73:16 “When I thought to know this, It was too painful for me;”
WHEN YOU LEAN TO YOUR OWN UNDERSTANDING OF THINGS YOU HAVE NO UNDERSTANDING OF, IT NOT ONLY BECOME PAINFUL TO YOU, BUT CONFUSING.
WHEN YOU TRY TO GET UNDERSTANDING OF THINGS ONLY THE HOLY SPIRIT CAN REVEAL TO YOU, YOUR FAITH WILL BEGIN TO WAIVER.
THIS WHAT HAPPEN TO THE PSALMIST, HE WANTED TO KNOW WHY WAS THE WICKED PROSPERING AND THEY DID NOT HAVE REVERENCE FOR GOD.
DAVID FOUND HIS FOCUS ON THE WICKED THE SAME WAY THE PSALMIST IN PSALM 73 DID.
PSALM 37:1-3 “Fret not thyself because of evildoers, Neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity. For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, And wither as the green herb. Trust in the Lord, and do good; So shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.”
WE NEED TO UNDERSTAND THAT GOD NEVER WANTED US TO FOCUS ON THINGS THAT ARE EVIL, BUT TO FOCUS ON THOSE THINGS THAT ARE ABOVE.
ECCLESIASTES 8:16-17 “When I applied mine heart to know wisdom, and to see the business that is done upon the earth: (for also there is that neither day nor night seeth sleep with his eyes:) then I beheld all the work of God, that a man cannot find out the work that is done under the sun: because though a man labour to seek it out, yet he shall not find it; yea further, though a wise man think to know it, yet shall he not be able to find it.”
C. DISTANCING YOURSELF FROM GOD
PSALM 73:27 “For lo, they that are far from thee shall perish: Thou hast destroyed all them that go a whoring from thee.”
THE FARTHER YOU ARE AWAY FROM GOD THE CLOSER YOU ARE TO THE WORLD AND THE THINGS IN THE WORLD.
USUALLY WHAT CAUSES PEOPLE TO DISTANT THEMSELVES FROM GOD IS SIN, PRIDE OR PAIN IN THEIR LIVES THAT THEY ARE NOT WILLING TO GIVE TO GOD.
THE PSALMIST IN EVERYTHING THAT HE THOUGHT THAT WAS HAPPENING IN THE LIFE OF THE WICKED, CAME TO THE CONCLUSION IT IS NOT FOR ME TO FIGURE EVERYTHING OUT, BUT TO PUT MY TRUST IN THE LORD WHO IS MY PROTECTION .
PSALM 119:155 “Salvation is far from the wicked: For they seek not thy statutes.”
