Here was the last two verses from last week.

So then just as you received Christ as your lord, Continue to live your life in him, rooted and built up in him.

Strengthened in the faith as you were taught and overflowing with thankfulness.

And there's that all we need to do as Christians to get well grounded.

Well rooted in Christ.

I think you know the answer to the question.

No it's not.

So we're going to read on in Colossians, chapter 2, starting at verse 8. See to it that no one takes.

You captive through Hollow and deceptive philosophy which depends on human tradition and the elemental, spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ for in Christ.

All the fullness of diety bodily lives in bodily form.

And in Christ, you have been brought to fullness.

He is the head over every power and authority in him.

You were also circumsized with a circumcision.

Not performed by human head, your whole self.

By the flesh was cut off when you were circumcised by Christ.

Having been buried with him in baptism in which you were also raised with him through your faith, in the working of God, who raised him from the dead.

When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flash God made you a live with Christ.

He forgave us all our sins having cancel the charge of our legal indebtedness which stood against us says, and condemned us.

He is taking it away, nailing it to the cross and having disarm the powers and authorities, he made a public public, spectacle of them triumph over them by the cross.

All right, so taken captive, this advice to be careful where, and how we walk?

How we live out our Christian lives, wasn't just a warning to lukewarm Christians.

This was a warning that he gave to Christians that were rooted and grounded in Christ.

This advice was given to those who could stand firm at least if they perceive the danger they were in.

In the New Living Translation has Colossians 2:8.

As don't let anyone capture you and the King James version of those says, don't be where least any man spoil you and in the notes related to it.

There it said the Greek meaning it is closely associated with Booty.

Like I was telling the kids so don't let anyone make you their booty.

Now, do you remember the story of lot when he lived in the area of Sodom and Gomorrah the Four Kings of that area were defeated and the Aggressiveness were taking away, everything they could as booty and Abraham and his flocks were apart of it.

Lot and his flocks were a part of it.

I mean, all of that they were going elsewhere until Abraham came and rescued them.

All, and Paul was the Colossians to be careful to be on their guard against deceptive philosophies.

And I think, you know what, if my dad this atheistic guy, you never really took Church very seriously.

And seriously, he reminded me of Spock.

I mean, someone, you know, who cares for you?

But I can't express it.

This guy that lived for logic and reason if he could be snared into a call and worship the bhagwan shree rajneesh, then a lot of Christians and be snared by these different ideas and stuff to ball.

Gives the same kind of warning out to Timothy.

He told Timothy be

Has been entrusted to your care.

Turn away from the Godless chatter and the opposing ideas of what is falsely called knowledge.

Super Soap all even thought this church leader, this man he'd sent to two different congregations, communities of Faith needed to be warned to be careful.

About the influences of these non-Christian ideas, the message version.

It's amazing how they rendered to, wait, it out, for people who try to Dazzle you with big words and intellectual double-talk.

They want to drag you off in the endless arguments that never amount to anything.

They spread out their ideas, through empty traditions of human beings and empty, superstitions of spiritual beans but that's not the way of Christ.

These verses.

Tell me the being sucked into some calls or some other way of thinking some other way of trying to get saved is a real Danger.

How can we spot?

What is fake and couple illustrations I heard about a young man once he's starting to to study under this this marine biology professor and he came in first day to work for him or whatever and Study under him.

And the professor gave him a fish and he said, study this and tell me about it.

The end of the day or maybe the next morning, he asked him.

Well, what can you tell me about this?

Well, it's a fish.

And the young man had been kind of board that day in the professors that are huh, okay?

The second day, he was given the same assignment.

Study this fish.

And it was definitely pretty bored that day.

And you're when he was asked about it, he said, it's a fish kind of.

When are we going to get on to some real research here?

The third day, he was assigned to study that fish again.

However, something had changed by the end of the day, he can tell him.

Well, you know, this fish has so many scales for per inch and the scales are shaped this way and their color this way.

And by the way, you know it's a female fish or a male fish and and it was eating and told him what it had been eating and stuff and you know so the professor was able to show him another fish and say a similar fish.

Is this the same kind of fish and well no it's not because they're rattled off the differences in and stuff.

The other illustration of of knowing something well is is one I've heard about an FBI agent.

He was asked how come he was so good at identifying counterfeit money.

Did he study with counterfeit money?

Looks like what materials they use?

What they think they use.

He said, no, we just study with the real stuff.

Looks like very carefully.

And so it was easy for him to see the face.

When we wouldn't being rooted in God's word, will help us identify and reject on biblical thought, Paul name two areas of his concern first day in 82 Hollow and deceptive philosophies, which depend on human tradition.

And then he also said Elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than Christ.

So the first is after maybe traditions of men, the second rudiments, sometimes they say rudimentary forces of this world rudiments this world but not after Christ regarding Elemental Spirits over in in 1st Timothy 4:1.

It says, the spirit clearly says that in the latter times, some will abandon the faith and follow.

Deceiving spirits and things taught by demons.

That kind of goes with it and in Paul's day you know many many of the heresies the additions to well yeah you've been saved but now you also need to do this and do this and do this would have been the cause for them to go back into into Judaism.

Will you need to keep a kosher kitchen?

And you need to go only on short trips on the Sabbath.

Jewish Customs, Jewish celebrations.

Oh, and you need to be circumcised guys.

So, you know, if you haven't taken care of that, you know, we can do that in the back room.

Then there were the Greek ideas, the Philosopher's, which interesting range from from the one side saying, you know, the body is so evil.

It's not going to happen.

It's going to just ride away in the ground.

So what you do with the body, doesn't matter.

At also send all you want.

That's okay.

You're going to heaven and that was certainly wrong.

And but the other extreme getting into some aesthetic leaders and stuff.

And and you know, okay let's deprive the body.

Let's not eat food.

Let's, let's sit on this poll in town days, after days, just staying up there on what kinds of crazy things.

I read once or heard from a missionary, once about some area in Central or South America, had a bunch of grass around the village and in most places, you would expect to find children, running around having fun in the grass.

And nobody, I mean, nobody ran around carelessly in the grass.

That's because they believe the spirits lived in little houses out there.

And if you accidentally stomped, if you accidentally pushed one of their houses, you might be cursed, your family might be cursed, the whole village might be cursed.

So don't you dare traffic anywhere other than the already beaten path?
