OUR FOUNDATION: PART 2
2 Peter 1:1–4 KJV 1900
Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ: Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord, According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
Purpose: To show that Jesus is God manifested in the flesh, the Holy One of Israel. He is the Chief Cornerstone of the foundation of the Church. Without the true foundation, the house will fall.
Matthew 16:16 “Simon Peter answered and said, You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.’”
The Apostle Peter received a divine revelation that Jesus is the Christ. Upon this Rock (revelation of who Jesus is) the Church is built.
1 Corinthians 3:10–11 KJV 1900
According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon. For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
There is no other foundation except Jesus Christ. This means that salvation is only through Him (Jesus Christ).
There are over 300 prophecies in the Old Testament of the coming Messiah.
Here are a few of them stating who He is.
Isaiah 7:14 KJV 1900
Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, And shall call his name Immanuel.
His Name is called “Emmanuel,” which means “God with us.”
Jesus is called Emmanuel in Matthew 1:21-23.
Isaiah 9:6 KJV 1900
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: And the government shall be upon his shoulder: And his name shall be called Wonderful, Counseller, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
Wonderful means, “a miracle; a marvelous thing.” Counselor means, “to advise.” The Mighty means, “powerful, champion.” God means, “The Almighty.” Everlasting Father means, “eternal Father.” Prince of Peace means, “the head person of peace and prosperity.
Jeremiah 23:5–6 KJV 1900
Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth. In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.
His Name shall be called “The Lord our Righteousness.”
The Name “LORD,” in this verse, means “Self Existent or Eternal; Yahweh,” the Jewish national Name of God.
Micah 5:2. “But thou, Beth-lehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.
The Messiah is from everlasting. How could this be, unless God (I AM) was manifest in the flesh?
In the New Testament, Jesus affirms the Shema as the first and greatest commandment.
And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord...” Mark 12:29
The “I AM” from the Old Testament manifested Himself in Christ.
Read John 1:1-14
The Word (God) was made flesh and dwelled (was tabernacled) among us.
1 Timothy 3:16 “And without controversy great is the [a]mystery of godliness: God was manifested in the flesh, Justified in the Spirit, Seen by angels, Preached among the Gentiles, Believed on in the world, Received up in glory.”
God (the “I AM”) was manifest in the flesh.
Colossians 2:8-9 “Beware lest anyone [a]cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ. 9 For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily.”
All of the fullness of the godhead (all titles, all roles, and all offices) dwells in Christ.
God, manifest in the flesh, had a unique nature of divinity and humanity.
Sometimes He spoke as God, and other times as a man.
John 2:19 “Jesus answered and said to them, ‘Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.’”
Destroy this Temple (flesh), and in three days I (God) will raise it up.
How can a dead man raise up His own body, unless He was the Almighty God?
Read Mark 2:1-12
Jesus forgave the man of his sins.
Scribes said, “Who can forgive sins but God only?”
Jesus proved that He was the “I AM” by forgiving his sins and healing his body.
The humanity of Christ suffered, hungered, was thirsty, and was crucified.
The deity of Christ healed the sick, raised the dead, brought His own Body from the grave and ascended to heaven.
1 John 5:20 “And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us an understanding, that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.”
Jesus is the True God.
Revelation 1:7–8 KJV 1900
Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.
Rev 1:12-18
Jesus is the Alpha and Omega. Jesus is the First and Last.
Conclusion The Word of God is replete with scriptures, both in the Old Testament and in the New Testament proclaiming that Jesus is the one true God.
In Him is the fullness of the Godhead. He is the eternal Father. He is the promised Messiah. He has all power in heaven and in earth Matthew 28:18
We are built upon the foundation of the Prophets and Apostles, Jesus Himself being the Chief Cornerstone.
The Prophets believed in One God, the Apostles believed in One God, and Jesus is the One True God. (Eph 2.20)
Ephesians 2:20 KJV 1900
And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;

English (ERV) “Hear, O Israel: the LORD our God is one LORD: and thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be upon thine heart: and thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be for frontlets between thine eyes.
