One of the most atrocious things I think happened in the fall of man, is the thought that someone is better or worth more than someone else. They used to sing that song, "Six Feet makes us all one size." and yet somehow no doubt due to depravity, humanity created a system that other humans become property instead of people, their value and worth were lost. Slavery was not a problem only in the United States, sometimes people forget that, slavery has been since probably way back at the Tower of Babel if not before.
The Servant or slave was often without;
Education - In the slavery days of American history, the slaves were often intentionally kept illiterate and uneducated so they wouldn’t or couldn't see better situations for themselves.
Satan likes to keep people as slaves to sin.
Romans 6:16 (KJV)
16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
I think of the parable Jesus told of the sower and the field, one seed was snatched away by the devil, kept ignorant of the truth.
I'm thankful for that scripture that says,
Romans 12:2 (KJV)
2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Ephesians 4:23 (KJV)
23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;
As brother John Preston used to say, "I Lost my mind, but I got a new one." we can be transformed in our knowledge of slavery to sonship. What a glorious transformation.
Freedom - when we are bound by sin, Satan has control over us, we are bound, we are his salve, to do his bidding. There were places slaves could not go, things slaves could not do, all because they were slaves, they were limited. Rest - slaves worked at their owners command, I have often thought of how Jesus talked about the servants, how they worked in the field all day and come in to the house and yet do not eat until the master has eaten. They were weary and tied and worn out and still had to get dinner ready for the master. That sounds like Satan to bind people to keep them running going working.
I'm glad Jesus came to set us free, to set at liberty the captive, to break the chains of sin, to turn us from a slave to sons. "Come unto me all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest…"
Slaves must work to secure wages, or there sustenance, Parents work to care for son/ children.
