The context of this passage is as Origen the Early Church Father wrote that Christ is seen in a parallelism or viewed in two ways, similar to the effects of the sun. The same rays that light and give warmth and energy to some, burn, scorch, and make uncomfortable and even kills others.
So to those who believe truly understand, what they have that it is valuable, honorable, PRECIOUS. I like what Charles Spurgeon said many years ago about the preciousness of Christ;
"In himself he is of inestimable preciousness, for he is the very God of very God. He is moreover, perfect man without sin. The precious gopher wood of his humanity is overlaid with the pure gold of his divinity. He is a mine of jewels, and a mountain of gems. He is altogether lovely, From <http://www.spurgeon.org/sermons/0242.php> "
Fanny Crosby wrote that beautiful hymn;
Oh, the unsearchable riches of Christ, Wealth that can never be told! Riches exhaustless of mercy and grace, Precious, more precious than gold!
Refrain: Precious, more precious, Wealth that can never be told! Oh, the unsearchable riches of Christ! Precious, more precious than gold.
Oh, the unsearchable riches of Christ! Who shall their greatness declare? Jewels whose luster our lives may adorn, Pearls that the poorest may wear! Oh, the unsearchable riches of Christ! Freely, how freely they flow, Making the souls of the faithful and true Happy wherever they go! Oh, the unsearchable riches of Christ! Who would not gladly endure Trials, afflictions, and crosses on earth, Riches like these to secure!

I carried about in my heart and mind regrets, guilt, fear of dying before I had thing's fixed up with God, and when I came a laid it all at His pierced feet and his blood washed over my soul cleansing it all away - I truly found Him to be precious.
Precious because

He Tasted death for everyman He became the propitiation (He appeased the wrath of God) Polycarp when facing the Proconsul - they told him to “reproach Christ, and I will set you free.”
I love his response - “86 years have I have served him,” Polycarp declared, “and he has done me no wrong. How can I blaspheme my King and my Savior?” He is said of the writers of the New Testament, to be,
All together lovely The fairest of ten thousand The King of Kings and Lord of Lords
Charles Gabriel wrote;
So precious is Jesus, my Savior, my king;
His praise all the day long with rapture I sing.
To Him in my weakness for strength I can cling,
For He is so precious to me.
Refrain
For He is so precious, so precious to me;
For He is so precious, so precious to me.
’Tis heaven below, my Redeemer to know,
For He is so precious to me.
He stood at my heart’s door ’mid sunshine and rain,
And patiently waited an entrance to gain.
What shame that so long He entreated in vain,
For He is so precious to me.
I stand on the mountain of blessing at last,
No cloud in the heavens a shadow to cast,
His smile is upon me; the valley is past,
For He is so precious to me.
I praise Him because He appointed a place
Where some day, through faith in His wonderful grace,
I know I shall see Him, shall look on His face,
For He is so precious to me.

The Price Paid to Have Him
Matthew 13:44-46 (KJV)
44 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.
45 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls:
46 Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.
Bro. Lewis Henry a antique collector would often at auctions and sales as he was looking through a box of items would see something of value and quietly put it back in the box and then bid on it. It was precious of value to him.
Bill Gaither wrote;
1.
I had won all I could win, there was no place I hadn't been
But my heart was so needy and so poor
Then, I heard Him gently say, "Lose it all and find my way."
So, I gave it up, and found it all and more
Chorus:
I lost it all, to find everything, I died a pauper, to become a king
When I learned how to lose, I found out how to win
Oh, I lost it all to find everything
2.
I was frantic to survive, I was racing to arrive
And I walked on, any standing in my way
Then, I watched my schemes all die and realized that I
Could find new life, because the old had died that day
