Genesis 40-41
Remember where we left off last week. Joseph stood strong against Potiphar’s wife, holding to his morals, but he still wound up in prison. While he was there he remained faithful, worked hard, and gained the confidence of the prison guard. Two men were sent to prison during the time Joseph was managing the inmates. One was the cup bearer to the Pharoah, and one was the royal baker. The Pharoah of the time was Senusret II, who reigned from 1894-1878 B.C. The Pharoah is not really known for much other than some work done in the marshy areas around the Fairyum Oasis. His reign ushered in a time of peace for Egypt and the surrounding people groups. But some how he became frustrated with the cup bearer and the baker. These positions were both very pivotal. The cup bearer would bring the Pharoah his drinks, and the baker would bake his food. Both of these men had the power to poison the Pharoah if they so chose. We are not sure what they did, but it frustrated the king enough to have them thrown in jail to await punishment.
While they were in jail they each had a dream.
