bringing good news

Mark 1:14–15 NKJV
14 Now after John was put in prison, Jesus came to Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, 15 and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.”
This phrase is in direct contrast to Ceasar Augustus, his actions and choices during his rule, and what was said about him in the Priene Calendar Inscription.
Augustus’ own description of his deeds can be found in Res Gestae Divi Augusti (The Deeds of The Divine Augustus).
What follows within Mark’s Gospel are Jesus’ story and life as witnessed first hand by Jesus’ disciple Peter.
The announcement of The Gospel Kingdom is a reference to the time promised and foretold by The God of Israel when He would personally step into our world and would begin to run and order it as it was originally meant to.
Zechariah 14:5–9 HCSB
5 You will flee by My mountain valley, for the valley of the mountains will extend to Azal. You will flee as you fled from the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah. Then the Lord my God will come and all the holy ones with Him. 6 On that day there will be no light; the sunlight and moonlight will diminish. 7 It will be a day known only to Yahweh, without day or night, but there will be light at evening. 8 On that day living water will flow out from Jerusalem, half of it toward the eastern sea and the other half toward the western sea, in summer and winter alike. 9 On that day Yahweh will become King over all the earth —Yahweh alone, and His name alone.
So our Creator says that there is a day coming when He will rule as King over ALL the earth.
But it’s only Good News if its a beneficial rule as we have seen horrific dictators, deceitful Presidents, Prime Ministers, etc.
So what does The Lord’s rule of earth look like?
The Prophet Isaiah is told of that time many times throughout his service to God and His People of Israel at the time:
Isaiah 2:1–4 HCSB
1 The vision that Isaiah son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem: 2 In the last days the mountain of the Lord’s house will be established at the top of the mountains and will be raised above the hills. All nations will stream to it, 3 and many peoples will come and say, “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob. He will teach us about His ways so that we may walk in His paths.” For instruction will go out of Zion and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem. 4 He will settle disputes among the nations and provide arbitration for many peoples. They will turn their swords into plows and their spears into pruning knives. Nations will not take up the sword against other nations, and they will never again train for war.
While this crosses over into another topic, that of God in Christ or The Messiah, Isaiah is told of the change within the nature of animals as well to be the same as when they first were created:
Isaiah 11:1–9 HCSB
1 Then a shoot will grow from the stump of Jesse, and a branch from his roots will bear fruit. 2 The Spirit of the Lord will rest on Him — a Spirit of wisdom and understanding, a Spirit of counsel and strength, a Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord. 3 His delight will be in the fear of the Lord. He will not judge by what He sees with His eyes, He will not execute justice by what He hears with His ears, 4 but He will judge the poor righteously and execute justice for the oppressed of the land. He will strike the land with discipline from His mouth, and He will kill the wicked with a command from His lips. 5 Righteousness will be a belt around His loins; faithfulness will be a belt around His waist. 6 The wolf will live with the lamb, and the leopard will lie down with the goat. The calf, the young lion, and the fatling will be together, and a child will lead them. 7 The cow and the bear will graze, their young ones will lie down together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox. 8 An infant will play beside the cobra’s pit, and a toddler will put his hand into a snake’s den. 9 None will harm or destroy another on My entire holy mountain, for the land will be as full of the knowledge of the Lord as the sea is filled with water.
The nature of animals wasn’t adversarial until after the flood of Noah’s time:
There will also be societal equity for the oppressed in this age, both by The King, but also by the individuals of society as we all get to know God and are personally changed by His Spirit within us.
Genesis 9:1–3 HCSB
1 God blessed Noah and his sons and said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth. 2 The fear and terror of you will be in every living creature on the earth, every bird of the sky, every creature that crawls on the ground, and all the fish of the sea. They are placed under your authority. 3 Every living creature will be food for you; as I gave the green plants, I have given you everything.
So The Lord tells us that he will return the nature of animals to their original condition.
Jesus’ appearance in our world began this process of restoration as it first begins with mankind.
It was mankind’s fall into error/sin that caused the decline and degrade of world conditions, and by restoring us to our original condition or purity and perfection, everything else will be able to operate as it was meant to.
Jeremiah 31:31–34 HCSB
31 “Look, the days are coming”—this is the Lord’s declaration—“when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah. 32 This one will not be like the covenant I made with their ancestors when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt—a covenant they broke even though I had married them” —the Lord’s declaration. 33 “Instead, this is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after those days”—the Lord’s declaration. “I will put My teaching within them and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be My people. 34 No longer will one teach his neighbor or his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they will all know Me, from the least to the greatest of them” —this is the Lord’s declaration. “For I will forgive their wrongdoing and never again remember their sin.”
Ezekiel 36:24–27 HCSB
24 “For I will take you from the nations and gather you from all the countries, and will bring you into your own land. 25 I will also sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean. I will cleanse you from all your impurities and all your idols. 26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will remove your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. 27 I will place My Spirit within you and cause you to follow My statutes and carefully observe My ordinances.
So Jesus’ announcement of God’s Kingdom is Him telling us that this time has come, which is indeed good news.
Wars and fighting will end, there will be societal equity, not by enforcement, but by our willingness as Jesus helps us to see ourselves and others from His perspective, by His Spirit within us.
Mark 1:14–15 NKJV
14 Now after John was put in prison, Jesus came to Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, 15 and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.”
Jesus does tell us that there are some actions we need to take in order to be a part of God’s Kingdom, one being The Command to repent, or turn from our own way of living life how we want to and understand to, and learn to live it the way we are meant to, from His perspective.
John 3:1–8 HCSB
1 There was a man from the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. 2 This man came to Him at night and said, “Rabbi, we know that You have come from God as a teacher, for no one could perform these signs You do unless God were with him.” 3 Jesus replied, “I assure you: Unless someone is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” 4 “But how can anyone be born when he is old?” Nicodemus asked Him. “Can he enter his mother’s womb a second time and be born?” 5 Jesus answered, “I assure you: Unless someone is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. 6 Whatever is born of the flesh is flesh, and whatever is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Do not be amazed that I told you that you must be born again. 8 The wind blows where it pleases, and you hear its sound, but you don’t know where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”
