1 The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
This is direct contrast to one of the previous Roman Emperors at the time, Ceasar Augustus.
He was said to have brought peace to the world by ending wars throughout the territory of The Roman Empire.
It was said that Ceasar Augustus’ life was foretold by the Roman gods in the “Aeneid”.
But God tells us that what was coming to pass was foretold by The God of Israel.
2 As it is written in Isaiah the prophet:
Look, I am sending My messenger ahead of You,
who will prepare Your way.
3 A voice of one crying out in the wilderness:
Prepare the way for the Lord;
make His paths straight!
4 John came baptizing in the wilderness and preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.
John was The Messiah’s messenger that went ahead of Him to prepare the hearts and minds of the people for what The Messiah was about to do.
7 He was preaching: “Someone more powerful than I will come after me. I am not worthy to stoop down and untie the strap of His sandals. 8 I have baptized you with water, but He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”
Baptism is a very important step for any of us, it is a point that we are choosing to totally entrust our lives to God and to allow Him to transform our lives to be His representatives in this age.
The Holy Spirit, God’s Spirit, was something that was being made available to everyone that desired it.
God said it would enable multiple things to take place:
25 I will also sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean. I will cleanse you from all your impurities and all your idols. 26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will remove your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. 27 I will place My Spirit within you and cause you to follow My statutes and carefully observe My ordinances.
God’s Spirit within us would help us to line our desires up with God’s, and it would empower us to keep God’s Commandments from a place of understanding and desire.
But that’s not all God said it
