What’s our vision? Give out gift card.
Well we are in this series talking about who we are as a youth ministry. Last week we talked about our value for the lost. One thing we had said is, “When we have a burden for the lost, the Gospel becomes real in our life.”
Tonight, we are going to talk about a value we have, which is Trusting and seeing God as Father.
Psalm 103:1–19 NIV
Praise the Lord, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits— who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s. The Lord works righteousness and justice for all the oppressed. He made known his ways to Moses, his deeds to the people of Israel: The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever; he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him; for he knows how we are formed, he remembers that we are dust. The life of mortals is like grass, they flourish like a flower of the field; the wind blows over it and it is gone, and its place remembers it no more. But from everlasting to everlasting the Lord’s love is with those who fear him, and his righteousness with their children’s children— with those who keep his covenant and remember to obey his precepts. The Lord has established his throne in heaven, and his kingdom rules over all.
Let’s Pray!!!
Who is a father figure in your life? It could be biological or mentor? (Tell Stories)
I think we live in one of the most Fatherless cultures to date, and because of that, we don’t see God as Father.
In the Psalms we see the characteristics of God as Father.
Two things that will hinder our relationship with God and cause us not to see Him as Father.
1.) Distorted views.
2.) Hurt from our earthly Father.
One and only point: Seeing God as Father changes our lens, which in turn changes our view forever.
So how do we change our lens?
1.) We know Him, not just know about Him.
-Talk about my dad and the things he loved most.
-You can read the Bible and know some things about God. But it’s hard to know what God the father knows without knowing Him.
-Philippians 3:10 “I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death,”
2.) We bear His image well.
-Genesis 1:27 “So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.”
-I think this is crucial in our walk with God, because when we understand we bear His image, we represent Him well.
-Talk about sports team Fanhood.
3.) We trust Him as Father.
-Trust fall Illustration.
- Mark 14:35-36
Mark 14:35–36 NIV
Going a little farther, he fell to the ground and prayed that if possible the hour might pass from him. “Abba, Father,” he said, “everything is possible for you. Take this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.”
-If Jesus had to trust His own dad, how much more do we?
-Give story of our dog Ben pooping
Let’s pray
