Introduction: Do you have beautiful feet? The Bible tells us in Romans 10:25, “Beautiful are the feet of them that preach the Gospel of Peace!”
I’m preaching to you right now and I promise my feet are not beautiful in appearance!! In fact, feet are some of the least attractive parts of the human body!
There is a lot of people in the world that spend a lot of time and money on their feet to look beautiful.
There is a lot of men and woman who love to go get pedicures where they get their toenail cleaned up and remove all the dead skin from the feet, so they look beautiful.
Some of us however need a spiritual pedicure! A lot of women also like to get their toenails painted with all different kinds of designs to make their feet look pretty.
But how do we determine what is beautiful?? I read a quote, “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.” We all see different things as beautiful, while a guy might thing that a big buck, of trophy catfish is beautiful. A woman might say a Consuela or Louis Vuitton purse is beautiful.
But mankind bases their beauty on things they can see with their own eyes.
Today we are going to look at three things. First, Beautiful feet starts in the Heart. Second, Beautiful Feet lead us to the Gate of Sinners.
Finally, Beautiful Feet will Carry you with the Power of the Gospel!
Thesis: The world looks at beauty as something which can be seen with the eyes; but God and the Bible teach that beauty will be seen in a person as we practice our good works.
I. Beauty Feet Starts in the Heart.
a. We see many any Scripture known for their physical beauty! But were wicked people: like Jezebel, Herodias, Potifer’s wife, Gomer, Absalom, and one I want to look at is Saul.
i. 1 Samuel 9:2 Saul was known to be a good-looking man that was taller than anyone around.
ii. However, in 1 Samuel chapter 15:2-3 God commands Saul to go wipe out the Amalekites and ALL they had.
iii. Look at 1 Samuel 15:13-23
1. Vs. 13-15 Saul says look at all I did.
2. Vs. 16-21 Look what God did for you and you disobeyed!
3. Vs. 22-23 Obey is better than sacrifice.
b. 1 Sam. 16:7 man looks at the outward appearance, but God looks at the Heart.
i. We may look Beautiful to others on the outside but what’s most important is how beautiful we are on the inside. To have a heart that’s truly after Gods own heart!
ii. 1 Samuel 16:12-13 We see where Samuel chooses who God told him, which was the youngest of his family, and known to be a man after Gods own Heart.
iii. Wouldn’t it be nice if the same could be said about us Jesse a man after Gods own Heart?
c. Isaiah 53:2-3- Jesus would not be desired by beauty but despised and rejected of men.
i. He was a carpenter
ii. He was raised in Nazareth
iii. He was not rich
iv. He was not a warrior
v. But many would be attracted to Him for His compassion. His message, His miracles brought multitudes.
vi. When people can see us showing compassion, they can see Christ in us. It is why we are called Christians because we are to be like Christ.
vii. Being like Christ will cause some to hate us, some to persecute us.
viii. In Matthew 23:27 We see the first mention of Beautiful in the NT. In fact the word is only mentioned 4 times in NT. Here it is in a negative way.
ix. Mat 23:27 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness.
1. The whited sepulchers or tombs were constantly being washed on the outside were they would be bright in beautiful as the people seen them coming into the city, but of course the inside was dead bodies. Jesus used this to reference how the Scribes and Pharisees were acting.
x. The next two word of Beautiful are in next point!
II. Beautiful Feet Leads us to the Gate of Sinners.
a. Acts 3:1-10
i. Vs 2 Gate of the Temple called Beautiful! This beggar was carried their daily. Acts 2:46 we see the first century church would continue daily with one accord in the Temple. Wouldn’t it be beautiful to gather with the saints every day and praise God still??
ii. The one thing the beggar needed was God!
iii. The people would walk by this man daily.
iv. Peter told the man he did not have money but gives him something better than money can buy.
v. Notice the beggar’s reaction, he was not only walking. He was leaping, and praising God.
vi. The people recognized him they only saw him every day as they would walk right past him!
vii. Vs. 10 They knew it was the beggar who set at the beautiful Gate.
viii. Jesus says in Joh 10:9 “I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.”
ix. When our beautiful feet lead people to Jesus, we lead them to the gate so that they might be saved and have eternal life.
x. Joh 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
xi. Joh 8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
xii. Joh 17:17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
xiii. Joh 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
xiv. Joh 15:3 Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.
III. Beautiful feet will carry you with the power of the Gospel.
a. Rom 10:15 “And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!”
b. Isa 52:7 “How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace; that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation; that saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth!”
i. Could you imagine Isaiah feet walking up and down mountains preaching to the people. They were probably calyst over, yet God says his feet are beautiful.
ii. When we take the Gospel to the lost; that is the only thing that God mentions is beautiful that we can do. It of course is not the outside appearance because those taking the Gospel probably have rough feet, but it’s the good works we do with those feet.
iii. We all know people who are lost in this world, weather it be friends, family, coworker or neighbor. We must always be ready to take them the Gospel.
iv. Brother Roper quotes in his book, “The message of gospel preachers is one that brings glad tidings of good things.
It tells of the life, death and resurrection of Christ;
it reports the teachings of the Savior;
it details the blessings that are offered freely to lost mankind;
it describes the kind of life the Lord wants men to follow, and the benefits to be derived therefrom;
it tells of the glories of heaven, which is the ultimate reward of those who obey Christ.
But it also warns of the dangers we face along the way;
it exposes false doctrines and practices; it spells out our obligations.
Everything in the gospel is designed, in one way or another, to bring blessings and help to us.
v. Isaiah was able to predict, more than 700 years before the fact, the glorious, good news of the gospel. That grand old story is one that never grows old to those who love it!”
vi. Eph 6:15 “And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace.”
vii. The Gospel brings peace between man and God. Brings us all together in one body of unity Ephesians 4:4-5
viii. The world is always striving to have world peace, the Gospel brings enemy nations together in one.
Like Paul said there is no difference between the Jew and Greek. The Gospel brings us together. People that hate each other can become brothers and sisters in Christ through the Gospel.
ix. The person who takes the Gospel to the Lost has Beautiful feet in Gods eyes.
c. Heb 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
IV. We are commanded to use our Beautiful feet to take the Gospel!
a. Joh 20:21 Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.
b. Mar 16:15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
c. Mat 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
d. Mat 28:20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
V. WE NEED TO HAVE THE ATTITUDE Isaiah had!!! When the Lord questioned Isaiah who shall go and preach!
a. Isa 6:8 Isaiah said “Here am I; send me.”
b. Isa 6:9 And he said, Go, and tell this people, Hear ye indeed, but understand not; and see ye indeed, but perceive not.
c. Isa 6:11 “Then said I, Lord, how long? And he answered, Until the cities be wasted without inhabitant, and the houses without man, and the land be utterly desolate.”
d. In other words, God told Isaiah he was going to preach until he died and not going to have a very good conversion rate as many would not understand.
e. We may not always be successful in teaching the Gospel to all but we must give it our all till we die. There is no retirement in teaching the Gospel of Peace.
f. Jesus tells us if we follow Him not only will we be fishers of men but in Luke 5:10 Jesus says Fear not for you shall be catchers of men. Many people are scared to go fishing because have had bad experience of not catching. Jesus says we will be successful if we stick to the pattern.
g. You think about it God has laid us the perfect plan of teaching others. Some people make attempts to change the plan by thinking they will try all these other ways to grow the church.
Man has made many schemes, but in the end faith comes by hearing and hearing the Word of God. Without faith from hearing the Word there is no saving people! Stick to Gods plan!
Conclusion: Beautiful is Gods Word. And Beautiful in the eyes of God is one who has a heart like David.
To be a man after Gods own heart, if we have that kind of heart, we will love our neighbors as thyself.
Beautiful feet will also lead us to do good works for others, where people can truly see we care.
People don’t care how much you know till they see how much you care!
Just like people were not attracted to Jesus for His looks but for His compassion and love for the people.
You want to teach your friends a family the Gospel is easy when they can see you are living a life like Christ.
Ask yourselves can Christ be seen in your life by sinners?
If we truly are living like Christ, we will be doing His mission to seek and save the lost.
The Lord has given us marching orders!! We must continue those orders, after all that’s how we have salvation today! Are you fulfilling those marching orders?
Today we saw how
First, Beautiful feet starts in the Heart. Second, How Beautiful Feet lead us to the Gate of Sinners.
Finally, How Beautiful Feet Will Carry you with the Power of the Gospel!
Is your heart prepared right now for a lesson with a sinner. Everyone who has beautiful feet are prepared to always take the Gospel.
We must always stand ready, because we never know when some one will reach out to us who is facing struggles in their lives.
Maybe you have friend, family or someone who loses a loved one; maybe someone facing depression or suicidal thoughts.
These are great opportunities to teach someone the truth that can set them free. But we must be always prepared for these opportunities. We must always have our tackle box ready to go.
Tackle Box!!
