Calling in a more general spiritual sense

The Invitation

Luke 14:15–17 NASB 2020
15 Now when one of those who were reclining at the table with Him heard this, he said to Him, “Blessed is everyone who will eat bread in the kingdom of God!” 16 But He said to him, “A man was giving a big dinner, and he invited many; 17 and at the dinner hour he sent his slave to tell those who had been invited, ‘Come, because everything is ready now.’

Our reasons for opposition to the call of God is we place what we see as more important before what God desires.

Most of our spoken reasons for not following Jesus or not accepting the higher calling are not the real reasons
We place Material needs before the call of God
Luke 14:18 “18 And yet they all alike began to make excuses. The first one said to him, ‘I purchased a field and I need to go out to look at it; please consider me excused.’”
who purchases a home without looking at it first?
We place our Business needs before the call of God
Luke 14:19 “19 And another one said, ‘I bought five yoke of oxen, and I am going to try them out; please consider me excused.’”
Did he buy an oxen without first testing it?
no one buy’s a car without test driving
We place our Relationships before the call of God
Luke 14:20 “20 And another one said, ‘I took a woman as my wife, and for that reason I cannot come.’”
this culture excuses a Man from serving in the military for a year to nurture new marriage
Do we somethings make ourselves too busy for God?

Open Invitation What Men rejects God accepts

Luke 14:21–24 (NASB 2020)
21 And the slave came back and reported this to his master. Then the head of the household became angry and said to his slave, ‘Go out at once into the streets and lanes of the city and bring in here those who are poor, those with disabilities, those who are blind, and those who are limping.’ 22 And later the slave said, ‘Master, what you commanded has been done, and still there is room.’ 23 And the master said to the slave, ‘Go out into the roads and the hedges and press upon them to come in, so that my house will be filled. 24 For I tell you, none of those men who were invited shall taste my dinner.’ ”
the city Streets are in the city. another chance for Israel
Highways and hedges are outside the city walls and represent the Gentiles
why would we need to (compel) press upon them outside of the city to come inside?
they probably didn’t know the host
If they did they probably didn’t feel like they were worried
