I LOVE THE BIBLE-
Psalms were used in congregational worship of God.
The title is part of the original text of scripture.
It is part of the Bible.
WHEN YOU LOVE THE BIBLE AND PUT IT INTO PRACTICE PEOPLE TAKE NOTICE.
As you grow in the Lord
1. David is refreshingly Genuine
He went through battles. Life wasn’t a cakewalk.
a. Be Genuine
David was praying for help to live righteously according to God.
He was asking for the path to be straight. Plain.
2. David’s exceptional accolades- Psalmist, Giant Killer, King, Man after God’s Own Heart, The man who served his Generation, David the Shepherd, David the Warrior, David our Example in scripture, David the boy who evil spirits would flee from,
David had people that looked up to him because of is success
David had people that looked up to him because they could see God on him.
3. David’s Consequential Enemies
David had enemies.
He also knew how to be under attack.
He knew what it was like to have people wish for his demise.
Ex. Saul, Absalom
There are people in your town that do not like you. There are people in your building that may not like you. There are people in your family that may not like you. The spirit of Anti-Christ.
2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: 3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.
7 For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.
18 Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time.
As the return of Christ gets closer things are going to get worse. Simply by identifying as a Christian

DAVID SAID - Help me live righteously, make your path plain before me. Help me do right because I have enemies.
IF WE DO GOOD, OTHER CHRISTIANS LIKE US.
IF WE DO BAD THE NAME OF CHRIST IS HARMED.
I - THE PSALMIST PREDICTABLE PRAYER
David prays to God.
David’s audience is one.
Prioritized Time with God
Goal for Prayer
David constantly turns to God.
Psalm 5:1 (KJV 1900)
1 Give ear to my words, O Lord,
Consider my meditation.
2. David is humble attitude.
Psalm 5:2 (KJV 1900)
2 Hearken unto the voice of my cry, my King, and my God:
For unto thee will I pray.
3. David’s Consistent Devotion
Psalm 5:3 (KJV 1900)
3 My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O Lord;
In the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.
Prayer cannot be a a checkbox.

II - DAVID HAD IDENTIFIED EVIL
4. God’s Withdrawal from Wickedness
4 For thou art not a God that hath pleasure in wickedness:
Neither shall evil dwell with thee.
5. Fools will not remain standing in the sight of God.
5 The foolish shall not stand in thy sight:
Thou hatest all workers of iniquity.
6. God hates lying and Iniquity.
6 Thou shalt destroy them that speak leasing:
The Lord will abhor the bloody and deceitful man.
David recognized what is not God’s way.
How many times does a curse word need to show up in a movie before you turn it off?
How many times do you need
III - GOD IS DAVID’S EXPECTED SAFETY
a. God give’s David mercy
b. David Worship’s God
7 But as for me, I will come into thy house in the multitude of thy mercy:
And in thy fear will I worship toward thy holy temple.
DAVID WAS IN AWE OF GOD.
HE FEARED GOD.
HE WORSHIPED GOD
3 But know that the Lord hath set apart him that is godly for himself:
The Lord will hear when I call unto him.
9. David’s request for righteousness because of his enemies.
8 Lead me, O Lord, in thy righteousness because of mine enemies;
Make thy way straight before my face.
2. David’s Peculiar Purpose for Prayer
David had followers which would certainly be impacted by his ability to live righteously, but he was concerned about living righteously because of his enemies.
3. Modernized Sin
David’s enemy at the time were the unrighteous.
9 For there is no faithfulness in their mouth;
Their inward part is very wickedness;
Their throat is an open sepulchre;
They flatter with their tongue.
10 Destroy thou them, O God;
Let them fall by their own counsels;
Cast them out in the multitude of their transgressions;
For they have rebelled against thee.
THE WORLD IS LACKING CHARACTER
10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4. Coveting Corrupt accomplishment - There is a tendency for Christians to look at the world Jealously or Covetously
A Psalm of Asaph.
1 Truly God is good to Israel,
Even to such as are of a clean heart.
2 But as for me, my feet were almost gone;
My steps had well nigh slipped.
3 For I was envious at the foolish,
When I saw the prosperity of the wicked.
4 For there are no bands in their death:
But their strength is firm.
5 They are not in trouble as other men;
Neither are they plagued like other men.
6 Therefore pride compasseth them about as a chain;
Violence covereth them as a garment.
7 Their eyes stand out with fatness:
They have more than heart could wish.
8 They are corrupt, and speak wickedly concerning oppression:
They speak loftily.
9 They set their mouth against the heavens,
And their tongue walketh through the earth.
10 Therefore his people return hither:
And waters of a full cup are wrung out to them.
11 And they say, How doth God know?
And is there knowledge in the most High?
12 Behold, these are the ungodly,
Who prosper in the world; they increase in riches.
13 Verily I have cleansed my heart in vain,
And washed my hands in innocency.
14 For all the day long have I been plagued,
And chastened every morning.
15 If I say, I will speak thus;
Behold, I should offend against the generation of thy children.
16 When I thought to know this,
It was too painful for me;
17 Until I went into the sanctuary of God;
Then understood I their end.
18 Surely thou didst set them in slippery places:
Thou castedst them down into destruction.
19 How are they brought into desolation, as in a moment!
They are utterly consumed with terrors.
20 As a dream when one awaketh;
So, O Lord, when thou awakest, thou shalt despise their image.
21 Thus my heart was grieved,
And I was pricked in my reins.
22 So foolish was I, and ignorant:
I was as a beast before thee.
23 Nevertheless I am continually with thee:
Thou hast holden me by my right hand.
24 Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel,
And afterward receive me to glory.
25 Whom have I in heaven but thee?
And there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee.
26 My flesh and my heart faileth:
But God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.
27 For, lo, they that are far from thee shall perish:
Thou hast destroyed all them that go a whoring from thee.
28 But it is good for me to draw near to God:
I have put my trust in the Lord God,
That I may declare all thy works.
4. A defended people.
11 But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice:
Let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them:
Let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee.
WHAT IT ISN’T
It is not the person that has being a Christian Figured out.
It is not the Sunday School teacher that has experience.
It is not the Bus Captain that knows the routine.
It is not the singer that knows how to sing well.
WHAT IT IS..
It is the one that trusts the Lord
It is the one that loves the name of God.
12 For thou, Lord, wilt bless the righteous;
With favour wilt thou compass him as with a shield.
5. An enemy is watching you today waiting for your demise.
5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies:
Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
CLOSING: Consider David’s Heart. Lord make my way straight. Help me to live right so that my enemies can see your blessings.
“Help me Lord to live righteously so that the ALL can see YOU, as YOU bless me.”
