A. What is the Book of Psalms?

There are 150 psalms in the Psalter

The Psalter is composed of 5 books

There are many types of Psalms (Wisdom, Lament, Thanksgiving)

The Psalms are part of the wisdom literature of the OT

There are various authors, David being the main one.

The most quoted book from the OT in the New.

B. The Prologue to the Psalms

Psalm 1 and 2 function as the prologue to the Psalter

Psalm 1 talks about the Blessed Man and importance of God’s Law

Psalm 2 talks about the Messianic King

God’s Law and God’s Messiah are the two vital sources of life for God’s people

A. Verse 1-2

What is a happy person?

The lifestyle of the Wicked (Micah?)

i. Their Counsel

ii. Their Way

iii. Their Seat

What a Blessed Man does not

What a Blessed Man does (Scripture Links)

i. He delights in God’s Word

ii. He meditates on God’s Word

B. Verse 3-4

The arboreal description of the Blessed Man

i. Planted by streams of water

ii. yields fruit

iii. Leaf does not wither

iv. he prospers

Continually immersing yourself in God’s Word results in an Edenic scene with God (Scripture links)

The Wicked are temporal and fade

i. They are like chaff driven by the wind (Scripture links)

C. Verse 5-6

The Wicked will not survive in the Day of Judgment

They will not be associated with God’s people

God knows his people and they will be saved

God does not know the wicked, and they will perish

Good Morning, Vanguard Bible Church. I am happy that you are all here today and greetings to those who are online. I thank the Lord for his grace and mercy and for the opportunity to stand here today and speak His word to you. It was moths ago when i started thinking what part of Scripture i wanted to preach on about. And after thinkning for a while and praying, I decided that would preach on the Psalms. I dont know exactly how much of the OT we’ve been exposed here in our time at Vanguard, and I believe it is extremely important to preach the whole counsel of God. So while James is preaching on James, Roger is preaching through Jonah, and I will be in the Psalms. It good to see us
